1.07 News, Info and Gossip

Normally the best bet in 1.07 is just to push on. You'll likely finish NM in the mid fourties and hell in the mid sixties IIRC. Never found much need to level.

What character are you?

I'd agree for a caster, but the physical damage characters need heavy twinking and/or L60ish to be viable in Hell. Or you can just grind, grind, grind your way through. NM shouldn't be that scary, even for melee brawlers--just watch out for FE and MS/LE bosses, especially w/Conviction or Amp Damage. Note that you will suffer significant experience penalties (in the statistics forum stickies) if you don't slow down and level at some point. Act 5 is my personal favorite to level in due to the target-rich environment and low damage from Imps and Thrashers.

In a related note, I made "Death" in a +3 skills ashwood bow for my L58 Strafeazon. I'll be using Immolation Arrow as my PI breaker (was going to use a CtC Amp Damage razor bow, but thought this would be more fun), as my merc uses cold arrow in a Nef'd Riphook w/Rattlecage. When the PIs run back towards me, they will be running through the firewall that immo arrow creates, then starting the process again.

Although the "Death" bow does about 1/2 the damage of Goldstrike Arch and half the AR, it's hit cases flee, knockback deadly strike, and -25% def properties actually make it a safer weapon than Goldstrike Arch. I don't have to mow down enemies with the Gatling gun that is GSA when half are a third are running away and another third are getting knocked back.

Now granted, Lem is not easy to aquire in 1.07, but Dol is fairly common and the rest of the runes are easy to get. I'd highly recommend making "Death" in a +3 skills bow and using Sigon's gloves + boots (and/or belt) for the 30% IAS. I'm wearing Goldwrap as well, but mediocre armor (30% LR/FR, 7 PDR gothic plate and a Peasant Crown) with the Angelic Jewelry, and haven't died yet. The build is very safe, and the +skills bows have low level requirements. It's so safe that I use it 90% of the time over GSA.

Anybody else have an experience with a "Death" bow? It seems like it will be slow, but safe in Hell.

GSA does 39 - 150, so it doesn't do that much more dmg compared to a Mat bow or Shadow Bow. The only special thing it has is the 50% IAS, and it's still a 10 WSM bow.
 
@Glenstorm: I'm don't think that you can keep the EMD if you imbue, I've not tried the 6 Pskulls recipe but I can't see that working either - RTB?

@Helvete: What Galtwish said with the addition of Cows as a place to level. If you can push onto NM Ancients you could get a huge level boost.

@RTB/Galtwish: Another important mod on the GSA is the damage to demons. Although not shown on the LCS, this mod makes quite a difference to your average damage in the low skill %ED world of 1.07, and I've found makes the kill/time ratio much better (note that I've not found/used a GSA in 1.07 and am basing this off using LoH, Sazabi sword and HoZ (for damage to undead)). Obviously, if you are already using LoH or have lots of points in dex giving more skill %ED then this becomes less important.

I have an awesome map with 2 campfires right by the wp, and one boss pack always spawning those gorilla type monsters. Lvl 38 and counting, going for NM hellforge and diablo soon.

Good idea about the ancients. I had forgotten the huge level boost they give pre 1.10

I've been thinking a bit more about these: I really can't see the 6 Pskull recipe working as the EMD is a 'magic' mod, much like superior and this is why is stays with runewords but goes with imbueing which 'cleans' the item before imbueing it. With regards to finding a rare with the mods you want, rare weapons in 1.07 are much weaker than their 1.1 counterparts as they can't spawn with the highest %ED affixes (I don't think I've ever seen a rare with much over 150%ED).

About the GSA, lets run some numbers (this is the scientist in me coming out). Assuming +100max damage charms*, a lvl20 strafe (100%ED), 200 dex (200%ED), a 200%DtD GSA and demons being 1/3 of all mobs:

Damage to non-demons
GSA: 39-250*4=154-1000 (average 577)
Death Ashwood: 37-193*4=148-772 (460)
Death Shadow: 30-235*4=120-940 (530)
Death Mat: 41-235*4=164-940 (552)

Damage to demons
GSA: 39-250*6=234-1500 (867)
Others the same

So average damage to a mix of mobs:
GSA: 577*2/3+867*1/3=637
Death Ashwood=460
Death Shadow=530
Death Mat=552

Using the same maths, if we have +200 max damage our average damage becomes:
GSA = 907
Death Ash = 660
Shadow = 730
Mat = 752

Putting GSA ahead by quite a way. (Note also that the Mat bow is on there pretty much as a formality as they are really really rare. ATMA puts the best chance to get one at 1:128329 from a Hell Cow). If you have more +dmg charms it gets even more favorable for GSA.

*Which is not hard to get in 1.07

The clearing of that property is pretty logical if you think about staffmods/automods that have to be removed, because the Ilvl is changed, thus the properties can be updated. I guess imbue does a total clear, instead of only removing the staffmods/automods. Rare weapons in 1.07 can have 200% ed, just like in 1.08/1.09.

6 Pskull recipe recreates the item, and even etherealness should be lost.

Question: Can a crafted Jared's Stone or Swirling Crystal get +3 skilltab? And at which level? I'm kinda drooling over a 3sox orb with +6 orb :)

EDIT: Which elite orbs can drop? Or is the only way of getting one the Anya quest... HEY! Shouldn't one be able to craft that GMB potentially available from that quest? And just use the same bow over and over when you finally get one?

I can't see why not - you'd need to be level 91+ I believe or use an elite orb (for the higher qlvl) to craft at lower level (not 100% sure this would work though).

Larzuk will not put sockets in orbs or wands in 1.07. Testing shows that Anya will not give out a GMB and substitutes a non-class-specific elite bow (depending on character level) instead. Afaik, there is no way to get a GMB in 1.07.



 
Yiuman: I'm using GSA on switch for bosses. Death is slow but very safe in Hell A1. The knockback and CtC flee with a cold merc sporting knockback, CtC flee, and Slow means this lady doesn't have to work very hard.

Strafeazon update: Crushed Baal--only took 3 full purples and 1 merc ressurection. Lister was a pain, but GSA + Merc + Decoy made it safe. The Ancients were pretty easy. I didn't even check their mods, just kept recasting decoy and staying out of the LOS of the monsters as much as possible. Merc needed a few potions because she forgot to get out of the way of the whirlwind all too often. I put on Rattlecage for cows and the CtC flee sent about 60% of the cows running for the hills making the Cow Level a big experience bank. Notable finds were a Lum from a tomb in Nihli's temple, a perfect 4 os Superior Razor Bow, and a +3 Shapeshifting coronet. Oh and a Fungal GC of Greed, only my second skiller.

I regear'd for Hell, w/greater Blood gloves 14% CB/6% LL/14% LR/20% IAS, Natalya's hat and boots, Goldwrap, Angelic jewelry, and that 30% LR/30% FR/ 7 PDR armor I have left over from pre-ATMA days. Primarily using "Death" ashwood bow for the CtC flee and knockback, w/GSA on switch for demons. Aliza wears Rattlecage and a 25% resist all/ 2 MDR crown and carries Riphook w/Nef. I'll be completing A1 and possibly 2 this weekend, and donning Tal's Horadric Crest for the ML to feed my strafing habit. Unfortunately not going to make a 2nd Mat this year, but I should be able to complete my 1.07 septumvirate by 2008 and then try out 1.11 for fun builds.

Observations thus far:

-Immolation arrow is pretty good when you've cornered a due into an obstacle--this will be a good boss killer for PIs

-Valkyrie is worthless in Hell. Decoy is much better.

-Greater Blood gloves w/IAS and resists are better than Sigon's, but not necessary. You'll need a L78ish character to craft some good ones, and gamble for the Vampirebone gloves as you can get +skills Heavy Gloves for Javazons and Martial Artists as well.

-If you are considering a strafeazon, a Fire Arrow Merc may be a better choice than Cold Arrow, as it allows you to go FA rather than IA to kill PIs. Amp Damage bow on switch seems like you are giving too much away unless you craft a Greater recipie or find a rare. I don't know if a Might or BA merc w/Kelpie Snare would be better, as I like to move around a lot and make monsters chase me. Not optimistic about A3 or A5 mercs.

-Multishot is useful and better in some situations, but Strafe fills in just fine. The points you save from MS can go to the passive + magic tree to up your damage or survivability. CtC flee makes Strafe better than MS in nearly all situations.

-A twinked strafeazon is ridiculously safe through NM. I didn't even have very good gear outside of the GSA (and now the Death bow)--just Sigons and Angelic jewelry, and every monster went down nice and easy. NM Diablo was a pain because he kept ignoring my Decoy and killing the Merc, but the Ancients and Baal were a joke.
 
Would you mind posting a full ATMA readout of those gloves Glatwish? I was of the opinion that the greater recipe couldn't give 20%IAS or more than +1skilltree due to an unfortunate combination of ilvl vs qlvl of vapirebone gloves, although I'd love to be wrong about this. Thanks.

Re the multi v strafe debate, I'm fairly sure that in 1.07 all multishot arrows carry the ctc flee etc but I agree with you that its not build-breaking not to have. I think it as much comes down to which skill fits your playstyle/equipment better as opposed to which is actually more useful.

I'll try to get one up this weekend or Monday. They are pretty uber/lucky. I gambled Heavy Gloves from Hell A1 with my l78 sorc for lesser crafts and unfortunately most came out with clvl requirements in the low 50's. I got one pair of Vampirebones and crafted the superpair on the first try.

I was referring to the theory that your spread for MS won't hit fleeing monsters as well as Strafe does. The Cow Level seems to be the only place where this would really show a difference in Strafe vs. MS.

20--I suck. I could really use those points in pierce/penetrate/crit and IA. The 3000+ life valk goes out in a wink since her resists tend to suck, and she doesn't do more than 100 damage (or so it seems). In NM she could live from the first waypoint to the act boss with one, maybe two recasts just by drinking from wells and returning to town to sell/stash. She dies to zombies in the Blood Moor now.

Not the same thing at all. Charsi will not normally imbue orbs because of a quality issue: orbs all spawn magical or better. Crafting changes the quality of the orb to 'crafted' as opposed to magical, rare or unique, and she will then imbue the orb in 1.07 (an oversight corrected in later patches).

Larzuk will not socket item type orb or wand. Quality is irrelevant, so crafting will not change this.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. So the only way to get sockets in a crafted orb is if one of the socket prefixs spawns on the orb.

@Wagnala: I think that you are right. Unfortunately the guide does make one or two errors (such as demon machine being the ultimate sorc weapon).

On the subject of imbues, what do you all imbue in 1.07? The usual imbue fodder is out (eth crystal swords/diadems/elite weapons) so what - boots? gloves? belts? At what level for which mods? It occurs to me that imbueing crafted rings/amulets might actually be the best use of imbues in 1.07 despite the errors in the guide.



 
Hmmm... In that case, it seems the best use of the socket quest would be magical or crafted weapons/armor. Esp. since monarchs can't have 4 sockets. I'm thinking of crafting a few of those greater safety armors. With a good roll on the DR/MDR and 3sox and maybe "of the whale" suffix, such an armor could potentially be awesome.

...Wouldn't mind a 4 sox cruel giant tresher of quickness either.
 
Just got a Lem rune from a NM LK Superchest. No way to craft it, no way to cube it, and as far as I can see, only one semi-decent runeword (Death) which doesn't require HRs.

Are there any 5s swords in 1.07? I might go hire a barb merc.

Due to the lower qlvls in 1.07 I don't think that is possible (and even if it was the chances of getting +3skele, 3+mastery, +3summoning are so low as to be laughable) although I may be wrong. 1.07 PGems IMHO should really be used in the prismatic recipy. If you really want to try for +6 wands/heads, then you my want to look at crafting them. I'd recommend a lvl 91+ character.

Nice bugged ring you got there. Using the cold resist recipe I presume?
