2018 Spring RFL Sign-Up and Running Thread: 2nd Round

@drmalawi It was someone else running nova sorc. But I'll be running with my trapper again. The nova you see in that screenshot is probably a random gear proc from the shadow warrior.

@T72on1 In an act of cosmic karma, I've accidentally overwritten my equally awesome lower kurast map. Not that I intended to run LK anytime soon again, but still..

Oh... oh, I actually made a backup folder and forgot about it. :D

@Shuffleblast Interesting, I also tried with Nova a bit before focusing on trying to get a good map for Lightning/CL. But that was mostly due to my Nova Sorc self-wielding Infinity, and due to her setup she had a bit of a hard time getting her resists up. I'd also be interested in your setup, is it worthwhile for you? What kind of run times are you looking at? Might have to try more with her. :)

Needless to say, if they're all packed together in the corner that is also perfect for Blizzard, grats in any case!

EDIT: Ah sorry just missed that you posted again. Well then I guess I have to put in the work at some point. ;)

I have one general question regarding maps and seeding in spf. What's ok and what's not? I've never used it before, but then people say they still have maps from a year ago and will run the same one again. Does this mean they saved the seed number? Or does it just mean that they never again rerolled the map?

Also, what seems to be the best merc gear for this? For me it looks like guardian angel + steelshade (I've tried forti and gaze as well), but it seems so cheap.

It is against forum policy to use the -seed command (as per the rules sticky, rule 2.6). When people say that still have maps from a year ago, it means they haven't changed them since then. If you overwrite a map, it is gone forever as far as the forum rules are concerned.

What Pb_pal says. People often use characters for specific targets, and never change maps if they have a terrific map for that target. So instead of rolling maps for their Blizz sorc for example, when they want to do AT instead of Travincal, they just roll a new sorc and level it up to do AT, that way keeping the great Trav map for that other Sorc. Leveling up a new char doesn't take long when fully twinked, and really good maps are very valuable (and rerolling is very boring in my opinion).

As to mer gear ... people usually seem to go with either Guardian Angel and Kira's or Steelshade and Fortitude. Guardian Angel + Steelshade makes the GA obsolete, as Steelshade has the fire absorb you want, and the merc won't beneft from the +to max resists from GA, since he won't reach high resists anyway.

Well, my summoner is the character that I most enjoy playing. Even though that will be on the list of the slowest types of characters to use for Travincal running, wth... I'm doing it anyway, lol.

He's relatively cookie cutter, 20 in raise skeleton, skeleton mastery and corpse explosion, single points in all the curses, uses mostly a clay golem (he mostly runs Baal).

His gear:
Harlequin Crest (Ptopaz)
Enigma
Homunculus (Pdiamond)
Heart of the Oak
Mara's Kaliedoscope
Stone of Jordan (x2)
Trangs gloves (or Chance Guards)
Aldur's boots (I have swapped out all sorts of boots here, last pair was LR, CR, MF 20% FRW, Marrowwalk before that)
...Call to Arms and Rhyme on switch for buffs

Merc has:
Infinity, Fortitude & Andarial's Visage (socketed with +25% Fire Resist / +20% IAS jewel)

My plan is to start in Act V, raise my army in the garden, head over to Trav... after that go back to Act V. Good times for all - except the monsters in Trav :)

@T72on1 I've socketed them with resists, so the merc has 90 % fire resist and steelshade's absorb. It seems to work best for me, but I'm not sure about the math. I've tried looking up the damage reduction order, but google returns a lot of broken purediablo.com links. From what I can tell resists are applied before integer absorb though, because the merc survives a lot better with GA + steelshade than Forti + steelshade. I don't have the bers to make CoH. Yet.

@maxicek I've read that - at some point - already. ^^

Anyway, the goal for the cowruns was to not kill the cow king and the goal for the travi run is simply to survive it. So I have some more technical questions about fire enchanted bosses.

- I always assumed /p3 explosions are more damaging than /p1 because of hp scaling. True/false? If true, I'll be running /p1 exclusively.

- Fire absorb (from dwarf star or laying of hands if I find a rack) works so that you first take damage and then get healed by the percentage, which can still result in oneshots. However, when a boss is FE + CE for example, his death produces 2 fire explosions afaik. Do both of those explosions hit first and then you get healed by absorb, or is the sequence explosion>absorb heal>explosion>absorb heal instead?

@Friiser, you may have to change gear on the merc. Andy's isn't all that good for the merc as FR is not maxed. And those Council Hydra's will eat him up. Judging by your gear, you must have a Kira's and GA? Or a CoH for LL and awesome resists? Those will help him survive better and get those first corpses for the CE chain.

Alright, so my Travbarbs gear set atm is:
ED jewel in the head spot, yeah.
Arachnid Mesh + an FCR ring works fine, I think. Mana leech past one ring slot is really overkill.
I don't think Dwarf Star is needed with all the absorb from LoH.
I'd just stick with War Travelers.

As to Arreat's socketing, IMO a rare jewel with ED + demon ED/AR + adds is ideal.

My Trav Barb is also using Arachnid Mesh along with HLW, one FCR ring and Hoto/Hoto switch. 105% FCR is mandatory IMO, whether with such a setup using Hotos or the Ist'ed Wizzy/Suicide Branch variant for more MF but lower hork percentage.

Don't think I'll be running with Barb at all this time personally. Don't enjoy the play style that much, and even if you have good technique there will still be plenty runs where cluttering is somewhat of an issue. Efficiency aspects aside, that's really the main reason why I prefer Sorc.

EDIT: Regarding absorb in general (apart from e.g. Dwarf Star, some also used Wisp Projector for those LE/Conviction rolls), there was some discussion about it also last year. I now used Dwarf Star on my Lightning Sorc because she was a bit too squishy otherwise. But generally I think it shouldn't be necessary at all with a good map. The thing about Trav maps is a good one not only means faster run times but also higher safety. After rolling her current map, I've been running with 2x SoJ on Blizzard Sorc as she is fine with maxed resists alone.

Also worth to note that (unless MF is a prime objective) Waterwalk are great boots, adding life and +5 max FR which also helps if required.

Thanks @DaveW
I do have an eth Kira's and an Eth Guardian Angel, however with the life leach from Andy's Visage and the damage from Fortitude, I never seem to have an issue with him dying. Maybe its because the monsters work on the skeletons first, but only once in a long while do I have to revive the merc. No Chains of Honor yet, that's on my list of things to make for the grail.
