Forum Mafia - The Dark Tower Game Thread

Also @ Goryani

The 30th post of the first QT

(Jcakes) Ok a couple of things, we need to spam the hell out of this thread. Given that Drixx says we must talk in hear I am guessing there is an eavesdropper.

Sorry. Old habit.

edit:
I agree with the line of thinking that leads to a listener (see post 3 of the first mafia QT) but I wouldn't think townie masons would be working to sabotage a listener.

A special thanks to Gwaihir for distracting the town long enough for us to kill the beam guardians.

You are welcome. *Pokes CG with stolen spider leg - repeatedly*

I may have only lightly breezed the mafia+mason threads, but don't you think for a second I didn't see that you recommended me getting blocked. Or that you wanted to try and kill me. (not that it would have worked, I think my immunity would have stopped it. Maybe. Who really knows.) Anyways, regretted not saving my kill (instead of trying to kill the one person immune to it :P) and then seeing if there was some way for me to try and win with the mafia after town started voting me.

Anyways, I agree with a lot of the comments, but to emphasize my thoughts coming from the solo neutral perspective.

The Meh: mod confirmation was a bit much. Confirming that I had a kill in the thread, or that pharphis unfound result was a 1 shot special exception to my immunity is probably not the best in my opinion. When in doubt, si back and laugh at the silliness people come up with.

The Bad: Not knowing I could not win with the town. If we had gotten to the end of the game, I would have been just as surprised that I had a solo win. Turns out I was actually playing against my win-con without realizing it.

The Really Terrible: Losing because the mod literally handed the town my win condition that I didn't know. Mod ex machina is lame. I understand that my win probably would have been too easy otherwise, but when I was told by masons I need to be lynched because the town would lose, and I am forced to pm the mod to see if it is true - that was really, really demoralizing.

The Good: Stories were interesting. Also, I had forgotten how much I missed looking for clues in stories. Lots of fun there.

The Absolutely Amazing: My role PM. I enjoy playing neutrals, they are fun balancing acts. But creating a role where you need to find and take down a target and survive? Now that is new and intriguing. Wait, you get immunities and a kill, but you need to fight your target at the right time or you die? Win. 10/10, want to play that again.

Anyways, rough first game to host. Bet it was a learning experience. Would sign up for the next game you decide to mod.

Thank you for the honest feedback Gwaihir. I'm very sorry that I didn't give you much more clear explanation of your win being the "sole" survivor type.

I also regret greatly the times where I slipped and said something when I shouldn't have. Biggest takeaway for me is to sit on my hands and post only vote counts.

To add to above:

As far as roles go this, may be my favorite so far. The only one that beats it was my cop in WOT, but that was because it was Verin, quite possibly my favorite character in that entire series.

Also, I love to read. I have heard good things about this series, and plan on reading the series at some point, so as much as possible I read as little backstory as possible, and didn't read beneath spoilers (I did make exception to read my own death). So I honestly had no idea that Walter was so important. I knew he messed with Roland, but the main point seemed to be him trying to mess with Mordred and dying for it. Based off that, and the powers I had, I saw no reason I was not a pro-town neutral.

No worries. For information, I would agree and tend to not volenteer info. Only answer PM's from players, and ask "does this give them any info not explaining their role" before sending. From what I can tell, other mods call it sitting back and eating the popcorn!

Also, all this said, I have never moded, and just signed up for one with Pyro. So hopefully I can take my own advice :P

PS: I would also like to see the role / mechanics information and the night actions.

I'll be formatting the night action list for ease of viewing on the forum and putting them up.

The complete role / mechanics list seems like a bit much to dump into a post, but I may pass it along if it will be useful in helping me do a better job the next time. I've had a realtime conversation with several people already and gotten a pretty solid feel for what was problematic and I think I've got a pretty significant amount of really genuinely caring and helpful feedback.

Given your earlier comments concerning you and "Some of you may" knowing my "true character", and your refusal to respond and let me know what it is I've done to upset you to the point that you have such a low view of me or to allow me to try and make amends, I think we've got some mending fences to do before anything else. Whatever it is was enough for you to air it in this thread, so I'm confused why you seem unwilling to let me know what I've done and give me a chance to own it, answer for it, apologize for it, and try to start fresh.

I fear that until we can clean an already dirty slate, sending you the complete source document and notes for what everyone already agrees was a flawed first game by me would merely give you a platform from which to further publicly attack and humiliate me, as if I weren't already embarrassed that my first big game went so poorly. I think for the most part the folks who played the game have done a fantastic job pointing out what they didn't like and how I can fix that in the future, and I'll do my best to make the most of that feedback. If we can take whatever it is I've done to offend you so deeply and resolve it in private, I would very much value your thoughts on some of the mechanics and ideas that both made it into the game and didn't, but unfortunately so far your actions have been as follows:

1.) Asked for the QT to the dead thread from one of the players (instead of coming to me)
2.) Slammed me in that thread and accused me of keeping the game going merely to reach some arbitrary statistics, as well as questioned why I took on the game in the first place (instead of coming to me privately)
3.) Refused to respond to my responses to that post in any meaningful way, both in private and public.
4.) Came to this thread and gave requested feedback, and then completely stomped all over me with a very non-specific (but still hurtful) paragraph, the private response to which you have also ignored.

Like many folks, I generally stick around here for the mafia games anymore, and so how the folks in our mafia community feel towards me is very important to me. Everyone in this community looks up to you (including me) and while you have claimed you carry no special authority, the reality is that you actually do. There's a reason the player you asked for the Dead Thread QT gave it to you without question. Everyone looks up to you, and so when you make a broad statement that you and possibly a few others know my "true character" but you don't want to go into details, what exactly do you think that says to the people here?

I am very willing ... no ... eager to learn how in my interactions here I have offended you to the level that you make a distinction between who I seem to be and what my "true character" is. I would like to know not so that I can argue about you with it but so that I can own it if it's accurate, and adjust how I post and conduct myself as necessary, or to explain if it's a misunderstanding or something I already corrected ... but more than anything, I would like the chance to reconcile and start with a clean slate with you... because at the end of the day I don't want to be whomever that "true character of Drixx" person is you were referring to.

To the rest of the folks watching this, I apologize for my part in this drama. I am unsure what I did to warrant it, but I would very much like to resolve it, ideally in a way that allows TC and I to move forward as friends. It has been a long night as I talked with some folks on mumble and got a lot of great feedback and noted a lot of the things people had to say down, and it's been emotionally draining as I'm sure everyone can imagine being attacked by someone you look up to is never an enjoyable experience, but hopefully it will ultimately be one that resolves in a good and solid character-building way. Nobody is more aware than I of my many flaws.

So are you divulging you have pimples on your butt?!?! ............./jaw drop

Doesn't everyone?

In all seriousness, like most everyone, I have my flaws. I'm aware of most of them and do my best to grind away at them and improve myself and how I interact with and treat other folks. In this case I simply don't know what I've done and it's painful and frustrating to have this unknown stigma attached to me. I'm sure it's embarrassing for folks to read this sort of thing when they're here for playing a game and having fun, and it's certainly quite embarrassing for me to be in the middle of getting a lot of very legitimate critique to process and then in the middle of it have some implied huge character flaw(s) brought up.

Thank you very much for making me smile about the situation flubb. I know it's silly of me to be hurt and to care so much about what one stranger on a forum thinks of me, but I'm not one of those people who think that I'm a separate person online than I am in real life, so if I do have some large character flaw here at this place online, I'd like to know about it so I can work on being a better person, both here and in my everyday life.

This is, I think, the only forum for which I am not a moderator or administrator, where I have ever passed 2,000 posts, so in a sense I have felt most comfortable here, with this group of people, and I'm sure that has a lot to do with the emotional swirl going on in my gut at the moment.

I do not intend to have this argument go any further than it is now. As far as I'm concerned, I've said what I had to say and I'll leave it at that. Continuing would just make things much worse. I just want to focus on playing / hosting mafia games. As far as you are concerned, Drixx, my feelings will not interfere on how I treat you as a mafia player / host.

On the mafia then.

The reasons for posting night actions and role / mechanics information (as far as I know) are:
1. For players to be able to understand your thoughts when hosting the game and truly appreciate the efforts
2. I do it to prove that no foul play, favouritism was involved or any other actions that I've done were to influence the outcome of the game.
3. For others to learn. In my past games I have uploaded sheets of my information and have sent them to other hosts to get an idea on how I host a game. Not saying that the way I do it is how everyone should, but it does help to see other perspectives.

I didn't ask for the information to cause you any harm, but to be able to understand your game in detail. I like hosting more than playing. And like many others, seeing the behind the scenes of a game is quite entertaining.

I do not have pimples on my butt.

I am truly a phenomenal human worthy of honor and worship.

So line up girls and bring me expensive whisky and candy!!

I had a lot of fun Drixx. Thanks for inviting me. :) It was interesting to experience a forum mafia game and I hope that I can participate again and be more active in the future. Here is my PM's for anyone who was curious:

During night #1 you overheard the following from the confessional: (Okay, so we also gained a bonus of some kind because I recruited 2 in the twilight phase. "You also successfully earned the reward "Deus ex Machina" for The White alignment. Congratulations.")

You overheard the following conversation during night #2 "Coju"

During night #3 you overheard the following: “Sorry for flaking. I'll give better reads if I survive the night/day.â€

During night #4 you overheard the following: “If the masons knew all along that they could bring kegs back, I can see phill's play as a gambit, possible?â€

No night #5; electrocuted :(

Night #6 Confessions You overheard "I don't really care, no. Unless I'm going to die. If I'm going to die I need to stay and spam." during the night.

Night #7 Confessions
Last night you overheard the following: “*Salutes* Gods speed, brother. It's been an honour serving with you.

So...after reading: I guess only question is whether Oy will be killable via nk once Eddie is offed...let's find out?
â€

No night #8

Night #9 Confessions: Last night you overheard the following:

"Oh, I'm enjoying myself. Very much enjoying your act too :) was very tempted to give Gwahair the win that day just for shocks and lols. (and because I think he got a raw deal with the deus ex machina)"

Actually figuring out the night actions, at least the majority of the important ones, can be figured out pretty easily by going through the QT's...That'll also give you most of the power role details. Anybody who'd like to can find all the information out themselves. With that said, it would be nice to have it all presented to us in a simple, easy to read fashion by the moderator, but if that doesn't happen I might just do it myself because why not.
