Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Palpatine sent to Kestegs and Binks received.

Phew....it was quite a struggle to get Palpatine through the Sewers in one piece. Unravellers and Dolls are not friends of mine. Good thing there are no magic immunes in act4 as those are incredibly annoying. A million resurrections was needed everywhere in this act as Trashers, the council and Sexons were too much to handle without proper meat shield support, so the merc had to take quite a beating in the entire act and he`s certainly not a good tank against a couple of those monsters.

No upgrades was found either. Mostly due to the fact that I had to rush through the act because of my limited time to play. I really would have hoped to improve the merc a bit and I`m feeling a little bad for not doing better. Hopefully Kestegs will avoid Burning Souls in act4:)

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Palpatine received. He could use a bit of improvement on her resists before I set out, I will do a bit of crafting to see what I can come up with.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Yeah, I think OKs and Burning Souls will be quite a challenge for you. I had the runes for "smoke", but it just felt so wrong to replace the Skin of the Vipermagi.

Good luck and I hope you`ll get through without too much trouble.

Oh and Binks has beaten Diablo.....I think the act can only be summed up by a single WOW! Give Binks an Enigma and CtA and he`s ready to own the Moor in PvP. He is truly spectacular.

I`m going to run the RoF and CS a bit in order to find items after my restart. It`s going to take a while to get such a strong MF character, so I better make the most of my time with this beast. Maybe I`ll be able to get some runes or charms to improve his gear a bit, but it`s going to be hard.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Yes, I also have the runes to make a smoke, but that would be just sad to give up on SotVM. I'm not sure if we were playing the same character, as my experience was rather pleasant. Of course not having to deal with any magic immunes makes a huge difference. The merc is just not tough enough to take much out by himself. Probably should have just given up on the kelpie and crafted a spear, but kelpie is just cool, so I don't want to. Still don't have the runes to up it to elite, and after the forge was kind enough to drop a 'hel' it doesn't look like that will be happening for me.

Diablo was easily defeated, the OK's were a little dangerous at times, but not bad. He never met any souls, so that was nice. He had one scary moment when I wasn't really thinking about the death nova of a cold enchanted boss. took me down to about 1/3 life from full. I had to sacrifice cold down to -19 so that I could get fire/light up to a respectable number.

He is now ready for his final switch.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

huh

Well

Offee is gone.

Urgggh. I feel really bad about this. Trapassins are near my favorite class. She was well strong too.

Such a cliched way to go too. Plains of despair. Gloams.

Actually it wasn't so normal. She was doing fine. Gloams are no real threat for sins as fade plus cloak of shadows equals safety. Izual died ages ago, she was just roaming for fun. Cleared out a big pack of spawners, gloams and a bosspack of corpsespitters, going fine. Stepped literally a quarter screen right and got fried by 12 gloams at once. They all hit simultaneously, and Offee was in hit recovery before she could move. She didnt survive the volley, despite good resists and 1100 life. Probably didn't die by much, the ball only bottomed out at the end of the volley, but the end result is the same.

I am not sure I can really blame myself here. CoS was on right click. SW was right next to me. If anything I probably advanced her a feather too far, but it is pretty debatable.

I have never really had a true gloam-ganking before, at least not one that wasn't my fault. The dozen gloams were all placed 'just' right to all fire simultaneously. Nothing less woulda done it. A moment woulda been enough for cloak to save me.

Oh well.

Thanks to everyone. I maintain this is the best tournament I have played. Thanks to Skunk for setting it up and running it. Hopefully all the survivors make it to the end.

Now I will try and finish some other builds I have been working on. Thanks again.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Alas, RIP Offee. Kestegs, this will mean that you send to WestXylophone instead.

Nice run anyway, SoulmanZ.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Particularly pulling for Dooku, as one of my power-choice characters. I thought it was an inspired and brilliant decision to add skeleton mastery to a necromancer with raise skeleton.

Yes, I am also cheering on Dooku, because I had the deep funds of wisdom so as to decide to add Corpse Explosion to RS and SM. Hey, Nualum -let's look at it like this - At least Dooku was one of the characters we didn't kill while playing him. Hooo-hah!

Also, I am cheering on Organa - I gave her Firewall as her first power skill. She turned into quite an interesting character.

and R.I.P. Offee. Sorry for your loss Soulmanz. Very tough luck with those gloams.

I still think it was wrong that we respecced away his awesome level 16 Clay Golem... :badteeth:

I actually have no idea which character I am playing in Act V - that will be a surprise in my mail.

Purplelocust will be playing Chewbacca, because I have now passed him on.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Patpatine sent to WestXylophone, and Organa received, sorry I sent the wrong file the first time, let me know if you have an issue.

Organa...Finally a sorc! And my ultimate favorite sorc build on top of it! I don't see myself using Nova a lot, but It could come in handy for that inevitable dual immune. GL on this final round everyone.

@skunk: You said not to play cows right? You will use it as some sort of final challenge iirc. Can we know what that will look like ahead of time, so that we can possibly prepare a bit?

Yes, this is exactly how it worked out for me in Act III.

Does she still have the utility stick that I bought for her on the weapon switch (a staff with THREE potentially useful skills she can´t use unless she has them as staffmods)?

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Hell Cows will be used as a tie-breaker, in the event that more than one character reach Guardian. There is a twist. But I ain't gonna tell you what it is

Yes she does, its a nice staff, although I don't foresee myself using it a lot since I would take a 50% resist all hit to switch, but I'm sure it will help. I'm at a loss for what to use my quest rewards on. I had saved a suicide branch(she's already using one) and a gladiators bane, which I can't see using for either my merc or me over Duriel's and enlightenment. I had hopes of gambling a good circlet, but that hasn't worked out so far.

So you are the evil emperor I see

Hmmmm... Is it: Unsummon all your summons, remove your Merc's weapon, enter Cow Level and, without attacking a single cow, run around for 30 seconds whilst circumnavigating the Cow level?

Seriously, I think that its likely that there will be 0-1 DEEDs in this last Act, given the quality of the players and the builds. The most acute danger is what happened to Soulmanz and Offee: a large, overwhelming mob (including many casters) that descend on a character rapidly. I guess my prediction for mostly likely spot for a DEEDS are (1) the Ancients (2) Frozen River (3) Throne of Destruction and (4) Frozen Tundra. But, I really don't think a death is very likely.

Anyway, good luck in A5 to the remaining players. And congratulations to everyone who has played in this Tournament - it has been an elite group of very skillful tournament players.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Kenobi has made Guardian. :)

Nothing much happened before I reached the Ancients, mostly just running past stuf and spamming wolves. The Ancients took a few rerolls before going down. Crushing blow is pretty good.
WSK 1-3 had benign monster combinations, so the Throne was quickly reached. There I met Souls, Amp Witches and Frenzytaurs. Fun times. Careful play made it surprisingly easy.
The waves went down more or less without problems. Achmel & friends required Carrion Vine (staff mod) to get rid of the skeletons. Wave 3 went down so easily, that I dared engaging more than 2 or 3 enemies at once. The merc died a few seconds after taking this screenshot... Lister's pack was pulled apart and taken care of easily.
Crushing blow took care of Baal (some more AR would have been nice). Drop & LCS.
Last up was Nihlathak's lair. I skipped Pindle (Cursed)... The bugged Vipers were taken of by the merc, helped by timely evacuations through many portals.

The personalization and socketing quests are unused so far, so technically Kenobi could still die before finishing the Act.

I'll probably post a bit more about the character and his journey in the next few days.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Good work, scrcrw! And yes, let's see five more!

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Well, I did my part! Here's #2, Organa. Firewall and FO sorc.

As predicted, I used nova very little, and static only 3-4 times as well, since switching to static is annoying (and dangerous)

The game really tried hard to throw everything it had at me, there were lots of dangerous bosses of the archer, slinger, and spearmaiden type.

Ancients took a few rolls, but this one ended up being a good enough roll
Madawc went down first, as long as he kept knocking back the merc he would stay there, but if the merc got close he would flee. If that happened I would just tele in place and wait for him to return, and he always returned to that exact spot.

Talic was next, cursed is bad of course, but he didn't seem to do to bad of damage, and with some pots the merc was able to tank him.

Korlic was all that was left, hadn't seen his mods before now, so it was annoying to have him CI/FI and extra strong. I static'ed him and then went in with nova, although I think that the merc still did most of the damage to him.

Also got hell lords on level 3 WSK. WSK 4 had a very clean entrance, which is always good. Got witches, OK's and Venom lords on that level. I think I had 3 CI/FI immune bosses on that level, rather annoying.

The waves weren't too bad, the merc ate it a couple of times though. Wave 4 had fanaticism, but that was the only notably bad roll I got.

Baal wan't too bad, but I played pretty conservativly and it took a bit of time to get him down, bad drop of course.

Still haven't used either reward, I think I may use the reward on my Glad bane for the merc, it will likely be more useful in the cow level than his Duriel's shell. Not sure on the other one though.
