The Exposure Tournament

Re: The Exposure Tournament

I've got a dilemma...

I was clearing out a False Tomb when I got stuck while poison glitched by Kaa. I exited game with 1 hp left. Was this fair move or should I count that as a deeds? I just don't know how to judge this since I technically would have died out of stupidity.

Was there any other monsters within close proximity to your character at the time of 1hp?

If there was and death was unavoidable, then saving and exiting in my eyes isn't fair for the rest of the contestants and i would count it as a deeds. If however, you had space to move and there was no threat of death. Then thats fine.

You mean the bug where the character is stuck in a certain spot on the floor, and you can only turn around and not actually move? A Town Portal usually solves this.

What does 'poison glitched' mean?

I believe by 'poison glitched' i think Krazy means where you get super poisoned and drop to 1hp in like a couple of seconds.

While im posting i may as well give a small update on Heath. We are currently parked at the Arcane Sanc waypoint ready to clear it out and move onwards. I will hopefully complete the act in the next day or two and will post a more indepth update once Duriel hits the floor :).

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Hiya,

just letting you all know that Nev will be paused briefly. Finally got my nova sorc to hell LK after most recent restart, and lo and behold, map with two fires directly above each other, directly above the WP. literally 10 ports covers the whole lot!

and there is even a rack that drops shakos about 1/5 next to the upper campfire. one of the weapon racks drops hyperions and i dont have an ariocs yet either

kinda crazy lucky, so i figure I gotta chase it. best so far is a lem and a ko (maybe 40ish runs), so nothing groundbreaking. Did find a 4 socket thresher to up my mercs insight though

Nev will return though. Just gotta resist loading him up with all the crazy loot Im gonna get

Re: The Exposure Tournament

I'll explain a little better now that I'm able to post from my PC, instead of PS3...

I was clearing the room out when of course I got hit with the uber poison damage that wiped my hp out. I was kinda pinned in a corner where the treasure chest was. I could have opened a TP, but I wasn't thinking at the time. By pinned stucked behind the chest couldn't move. The room was full of Skeletons and Beetles. So you can kinda see why I was freaked out.

If you indeed find this as cheesy then so be it I'll concider the toon dead in the tourney.

Was death unavoidable? Or could you have survived the situation, despite being 1hp?

If death was unavoidable then i would say your character should be counted as deeds. If it was the latter, then i think thats fine.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Well from my point of view I had full belt of Potions. Full Tome of TPs. Only one Monster at a time could actually reach me. So yeah I think its possible I could have survived given the location of the tp if it was place right. Regardless I normally don't ever save and exit unless online (lag deaths annoy the crap out of me).

Well in that case i guess its ok. Unless you feel guilty about your decision to save + exit and wish to restart, by all means go ahead, otherwise you may continue.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

My amazon warrior finished off NM Duriel just now. She was able to find a Nef rune in one of the false tombs and made some blood gloves to provide some CB. So she killed Duriel at /P1. Good thing too, he damaged her faster than healing potions could keep up so she had to use a few Full Rejuv potions, which are not plentiful since the stash crash.

She has found now two armors that are end-game worthy: the aforementioned SoTV and this, which dropped in the true tomb. While the Serpentskin armor is better for skills and FCR (for casting slow missiles and inner sight), the Hawkmail provides both FRW and CBF. This being the Exposure tournament, both CBF and FRW contribute to my ability to distance Thalestris from her enemies. Hmmm decisions decisions. Maybe I should keep both handy at all times.

She also happened upon this Necro wand in a false tomb. With the proper sockets it might be a nice White wand.

On to act 3!

Re: The Exposure Tournament

I killed my fourth character I've tried for this tourney last night in the Inner Cloister. Don't know why I even went there after harrowing battle with Pitspawn Fouldog.

Don't know if I try the fifth time SUTC coming around quite soon.

Actually, you run at the same speed with both armors. The +10% FRW on Hawkmail is offset by the fact that it´s a heavy weight Scale Mail.

During some short testing it sure seemed like they were the same. You're right there. That CBF is nice though.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Well I've put this off for long enough I suppose...

Running_Scared continued her journey into act 2. The player setting was kept at 8 for most of the desert/sub areas, the only really hard things were Cat type monsters, which were cold immune and usually pretty fast, had a number of extra fast spawns of those, which were pretty tricky. Halls of the Dead was a tough area, with slingers right by the entrance. This one almost got me several times, even after I had separated her. And then of course I met her twin later in that same level. I found a Tal's belt and a Horizon's Tornado in the halls as well. Far oasis gave me a really fun monster! I was never sure if he spawned at p3 or p8 it was right on the line, but it was very tough, I ended up having to move off screen and just let the hydras do the work, a technique that would later prove useful against sarcophagi. It took quite some time to take them all down. Maggot lair was very easy and done entirely at p8, being able to Gspike the first monster and orb the rest made it easy to be safe. and if there was a boss I would Gspike the first and then cast Hydras over the top until the boss was dead. This was all good and fun until I came to Coldworm. I don't think I have ever seen that many maggots in my D2 career. I think the game could not physically display them all, as they just kept coming and coming. I spent a good hour on that one room alone, and about 15-20 trips back to town for 4 healers and 8 manas per trip. I think I counted around 30 pieces of treasure on the ground after they all were dead, so I know there was a ton of them. AT was done on p8 of course, but no good finds there. Viper temple was done at p1, as every stinking thing in there was cold immune. It was a pretty scary area, but not too terrible. Level 2 gave me an unbreakable Fangskin, but fortunately he was not on the throne.

Palace wasn't too tough, urdars were the only CI i found, but at p8 they took forever too kill. Anything too tough was just moated with the terrain. Arcane was a real pain with the blood lords and ghosts, but it only had like 2 bosspacks in the whole thing, so not too tough, I killed a couple of the lightning towers, but in the end I left the rest as it look too long. A ghost was kind enough to leave this behind, my highest rune ever! although completely useless here.

Canyon was tough with more cats, but I only complained until this dropped from one of them. A decent roll too.

First 3 tombs weren't too bad, I was starting them at p1 and then adjusting according to monsters. Pulled a sandstorm trek from a sparkly chest. And then I did something stupid: I had quit for the night (game still running). Came back the next morning and I was right on the edge of the next tomb entrance: Obviously I was not awake enough yet, as I thought I'll just start this one at p3, since I don't feel like typing in p1. Popped in to see a single Ghost trapped behind a pillar. That should have been a good sign to be careful. At this point I was not thinking about the fact that Ghosts have CBF, so I move over to dispose of him. Ambush! all of a sudden there is a pack of Extra Fast Ghosts heading for me! I try to evade them and kill them but they are just too fast. At this point the right thing to do would probably be to just scrap that tomb and move on. But I just wasn't making good choices at this point still. I decided to just tele down a corridor randomly and try to find a safe area to start. I went a ways, finding a few random ghosts here and there, but I couldn't shake 2 of the minion ghosts from before. I then awakened a pack of Extra Fast Urdars, this is when panic began to set in. I was burning juves just to try to keep tele'ing away from the ghosts, who would drain my full mana in 1 hit, and with about 80% chance to hit me they weren't missing much. Eventually I made a final bad choice to tele into a corner and try to make a tp. The Tp never made it up...

I took this one pretty hard, it was about 5 days ago. This is one of the more enjoyable builds I have played in a while. The Hydra's were very fun, they were doing about 500 damage per bolt. And when you have 5 on the screen at once they can do some massive damage. I had 1100 life and 75% resist all and 20 points of MDR, there wasn't much more I could have done to protect myself. But I will be back to avenge my Sorc's life... just not sure with what yet. I really thought that I could go all the way with her, but I also know that act 3 was going to be very tough, and I was planning on keeping with full clears, so that would make it extra tough.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Running_Scared, your deeds will be remembered. Tough loss on that one, sorry Kestegs. I'm guessing you didn't walk or run much as a sorc because of your comment about the useless Cham rune. By the way, that is WAY higher than I've ever seen (I got a Vex once). I hate being so close and tasting defeat. Thalestris is only just at the NM Lower Kurast WP so she has a long way to go but hopefully those extra fast boss packs won't get her and she can avenge the loss.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Somehow I missed Kestegs' last entry. I offer my condolences. In my opinion, making it as far as you did in this tourney is quite a feat, so don't beat yourself up too much.

I haven't had much time for Scaven lately, but I'm sure he will hack away some time soon.

Merry Christmas all.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Decide to retire Furious... Been busy doing other things. Right now D2 is not high on priority list. Should my attention swing back to d2 i'll concider unretiring and continue, until then Happy Holidays and Good Luck.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Just thought I would update to show that I am still alive. Since my last update I progress from the beginning of Act 1 NM to where I am now. Nothing of real interest to note. With tax season just around the corner I have to going to have squeeze time in now if I want to finish her up some time this year.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

The text below is my response to Krazy_Solo when he was looking for a jack-of-all build, good both with AoE and boss killing, and that didn´t go by the name Hammerdin:

Phoenix Striker fits this description...but not in this tournament. I want both merc, Shadow and shield for that build.

"But hmm, one with dual claws and higher level MB..."
(goes to the drawing board.)

This grabbed me and didn´t let go, so I am now playing a second character in this tourney: Faith, a dual claw elemental Martial Artist.

It´s kind of a cookie-cutter build for this tourney, since it lets you block without a shield. But with no merc and no Shadow, it will be trickier than usual to avoid tons of damage. Some bosses may require Mind Blast so I get some tanking help. It´s too bad that the conversion effect last for such a short time, no matter the skill level. It lasts for 6-10 seconds. Compare that with the 16 seconds effect that the Paladin skill Conversion has.

Faith progressed quickly. Assassins are fast in the early game. They start with a fast weapon that does 4-7 damage - the best of any class. Is it just me or do they actually run faster than other classes, even before BoS is available?

Claw progression has been Katars -> Cesti -> Blade Talons. The latter have a pretty high qlvl (21) and STR/DEX requirement (50 each) so they weren´t available until late Act I. I think I gambled them at around clvl 18-19 (I had to look at MANY annoying Claws in the gambling window!).

Her current claws are two magical Blade Talons rerolled with chippies. They have a little AR and +damage, and each claw has two sockets. I plan to put my first four MF jewels in them and use them until Greater Talons with staffmods become available (so upgraded rare Blade Talons don´t count) .

As I plan to stop at STR/DEX 79/79, this character will be able to invest heavily in Vitalilty. She will need all the life she can get...

The main skill at the moment is level 7 Fists of Fire. Two uses of the skill will nearly always score three charges. An Attack later, and Faith has released fire damage on the target monster, an explosion and a fire carpet that burns for a couple of seconds. All for a measly 4 mana! A guide I read recommends CoT as main skill when progressing, but that skill is twice as costly and has no lingering damage effect. Also, it´s still only at level 2.

Once Faith gets a decent mana pool, I will use Dragon Claw instead of Attack.

Weapon Block is currently level 5, giving 39% blocking. It will get my next skill point (taking it to 42%) in preparation for Duriel. I really like it when she blocks beetle sparks and such - that´s badass!

Faith´s gear is mostly MF items, plus she wears Hsaru´s Iron Stay. Current resists are 24/47/14, so beetle sparks hurt quite a bit. Some get blocked, but otherwise I try to attack from angles where the sparks don´t hit, plus I drink many healing potions and rely on my big life pool (nearing 400) to get by.

I have been gambling Circlets pretty much since early Act II, and Boots for the last level. No Luck items yet - I´m still wearing a stupid 22% MF Skull Cap.

This build has the potential (and hunger) for lots of +skills. +8 Assassin skills and an extra +2 Martial Arts is a very realistic goal.

Don't see any reason why it would be banned, its not a summon.

I have rejoined as well and made some progress into act 2, but other projects are taking a lot of my attention right now, but I will give a formal update when I finish A2.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

After short break I managed to do some progress. BlackDeath successfully finished act 2 hell. The progress started to be rather slow, /p8 decreased to /p5 or lower. There wasn't any bigger danger in this act, it seemed even less demanding than act 1, although need to admit he parked several monsters/packs and escaped from one false thomb without full clear.

The most unpleasant monsters were: this kind of skeletons in Stony thomb, with high magic resistance (bosses were almost unkillable on /p8), Horadrim Ancient bosses and ghosts. Ghosts can't be bone prisoned so such nice extra fast pack is real challenge.

Next: act 3 hell
