For some reason all my rare rings have ended up with the same resists, but seeing as they're the only rare rings I have, not much point in complaining. Now I finally have rares in all slots (barring the unique SoD)!

Bob is storming along and is now Level 12 and standing in the market place in Lut Gholein trying to hit on Fara with tales of his daring near deeds.

Weapon: Two Handed Sword Socketed with a chipped sapphire and a chipped emerald

The rest of my *ahem* godly Gear:

Bob is accompanied by his trusty companion Aliza carrying a White Hunters bow and wearing an Ethereal Hard Leather Armor.

The closest deeds were from a bunch of cold enchanted HF Tainted, though Bob was chugging healing potions pretty solidly from the Tamoe Highland onwards.

Bob is currently using a level 1 Holy fire with 1 point in Zeal, hoping to save his skill points until Level 18 where he can start pumping Holy Freeze. He is currently undecided about how his skills will be delivered - zeal, vengence or charge.

Some questions:

1. I started in Softcore, where I normally play, I'd rather not restart and gather that this is OK with my competing on the honor code. Thing is - can you revive a merc in Hardcore? Or when they die do they stay dead? I just wanted to know so I don't break the rules by reviving him/her if that is not possible in HC.

2. Can I change the sword around as often as I like until I find my Sword of Destiny?

3. I understand that my merc can't use any runewords - is this correct?

I'm really enjoying this - it's kinda like taking a trip in the WayBack machine to when I first played this game. It's been a while since I went through Act 1 using anything less than Khalims Flail, +27 Max Mask, +27Max Shield, +27Max Armor, Angelics, Deaths Belt+Gloves and Cow King Boots. It's a welcome change.

You register yourslef by adding yourself into table (copy/paste into notepad is the easiest way)
Anwser to all three of your question is yes. Merc can be revived in HC, and it's ok to play SC, but when you die, you're out.
You can change sword as long as it fits the rules (no runewords unless you want to keep it forever)
Yep, merc can't use anything with sockets in it :(

Just copy the whole "running/fallen heroes" tables (quote my post and both tables will appear in there) and then add yourself to that list. :)

To answer your other questions:

1. Yep, reviving the merc is allowed. I don't play HC either but assume there's no difference between HC and SC when it comes to res mechanisms.

2. Yep. Once you find your SoD, it becomes your weapon of choice and thus the only weapon you're allowed to use. You can make a runesword SoD if you find your SoD too weak (or if you get tired of using rares) but then that becomes your final SoD. Ah, commitment!

3. Yep!

Erm... one more question - am I allowed to make my 'Runesword' in an Ethereal Sword and when it breaks make a new one? I have a feeling the answer is no but just wanted to make sure.

Managed to get to Lut Gholein without getting killed. Everything went much easier than with Amazon that died yesterday. Dire wolf tanked everything without problem.. Can't wait to get that grizzly :yes:.
Drops in act was not so good.. Blade wears only unique boots & belt, but I don't mind :whistling:
Not to sure how to build this char, but I'm maxing cyclone armor and bear for sure. Not sure what will be more of use: HoW or Oaky? Advices wellcome.
Also noticed that I can use carrion wine just before killing Andy :doh:

You can't use any unique items except your sword of destiny. :coffee:


I've reached Act3 without any problems really. Howl really helps with mobs. Did some Countess runs (about 10 of them) so I've been using a 3xTal sword since black marsh. :)

A good question, but no. One runesword per character. There's too much potential for abuse, I think. The rule on eth unique SoDs is different because that you have no control over.

I guess if you do make it ethereal and it breaks before you make guardian, you haven't reached your destiny. :)

I dont have time for tale like post.
Gawain is now 25lvl in the beginning of act 3. Act 2 was easy, there were no good drops except eth rare sword. I used it till it broke. Then i ran Countess for some time and got 3 ith runes. Put them in 3sox superior claymore ( 3ar 9ed ). Duriel was no match for me. With my bo and shout the defiance merc was near immortal. Duriel was kind and didnt drop false SoD and even droped me rare full helm that granted me more defense and fire resist. No near death situations.

This tournament is highly exciting. Firstly because it's my first time playing HC and secondly because you are always worried a crap SoD will drop haha. :D

Brynhilda had always been, well, uncoordinated. Now, this is not to say that she tripped over things - quite the opposite. She was, in fact, quite adept at dodging, evading, and avoiding obstacles of all sorts. However, she could never quite sort out how to enchant arrows as she pulled them from the quiver, nocking them on her bow, and firing in quick succession. Holding a javelin while also using a shield was similarly disastrous.

Eventually she left the amazon camp, frustrated to the point of losing her cool, to go punch some demons. It seemed like a good way to work off some frustration. Eventually, one of those demons dropped a 2-handed sword. She picked it up. It felt... comfortable. She took a few practice swings and accidentally killed three quill rats. This might work, she thought to herself. But this sword lacks power. It will do, for lack of a better option, she reasoned to herself. But she is still looking for the perfect weapon... the one that feels like it was destined to be in her hands.

OK, enough of that. Brynhilda is currently accompanied by Alhizeer, a Prayer merc who's got a crappy rare Voulge that Duriel dropped. He's doing the bulk of the killing right now, with Brynhilda swinging slowly, but wildly, away with a sword that is most certainly not the Sword of Destiny. They're both wearing highly unremarkable gear, consisting primarily of plain white items. The only exception being Ormus' gift of a resist all rare ring in return for bring him the Gidbinn.

The proscription on magic items, gambling and socketing means she completely lacks magic find at this point. This in turn makes it exceedingly difficult to find the rare items that she so desperately needs for her quest to be successful. I'm currently just waiting for the gems/runes to get to the point where I can do some crafting.

The ancient king Bul-Kathos is revered among barbarians, being the fabled guardian of Mount Arreat and all. What the barbarians do not know is that, in reality, Bul-Kathos was a clumsy fool, hardly able to hit the ground beneath him due to his poor AR and his frail Sword of Destiny, Soulflay. While the legends tell of mighty deeds, Bul-Kathos actually made a name for himself by repeatedly killing the poor, defenseless skeleton known as Pindleskin - partly in hope of finding phat loot, but mainly because he's too big a coward to man up and fight Nihlathak, let alone Baal.

It's kind of odd that the unique 2h swords are so weak when some other normal unique 2hs are not. My barbarian Bul-Kathos, described above, found a 275% ED Bonesnap which would've increased his damage by a rough estimate of 1500%, had he been allowed to use it. Ah well.

I'll update the list later tonight as I plan on heading down to Baal before going to bed. Currently, Bul-Kathos is level 41 and will farm Pindle until 45ish.

Lower Kurast is a great place to gear up. I got plenty of rares, charms, gems and runes from the chests, with close no risk involved on my part (even at /players 8).

That's a good idea. I hit a lucky all-yellow-drop super chest in the Arcane Sanctuary. Unfortunately, it only contained a crappy jewel and an even crappier amulet. With 5 mods on a rare amulet, what are the odds that the best one is +6% gold find? :alright:
