This thread replaces the ATMA/GoMule muling thread. This thread will provide support for all of the mods and utilities allowed on the SP(T)F. Remember these are either unable to be used on bnet or will get you banned from there and our trade forums.

This thread will not support other mods/mod-making or editors of any kind so do not ask.

Please read the forum rules and SPF FAQ and Accepted Gameplay Rules. You may find the D2 Terms and Abbreviations thread useful. Mod support should be done at The Phrozen Keep.

Unsupported mods and programs

Pretty much anything not in here or in the Accepted Gameplay Rules. If in doubt, PM both Moderators for clarification.

Supported mods, muling applications and utilities

These are things that make the life of an SPF'er easier and more fun. Plus we get to point and

Muling applications

This is a way of moving items around. It also allows a large number of items to be kept in stashes away from your D2 character. ATMA is the original muling utility, GoMule is a java-based utility that also works on Macs. Both work for version 1.11b and 1.12a.

They both use the same files: .d2s is save, .d2x is a stash file, .org are ATMA backups. If you rename .orgs to .d2s or .d2x (depending on what it is) you can open it in ATMA or GoMule. ATMA supports .d2i files but these should NOT be used.

Symantec flagging ATMA as a virus/adware

It is a false positive. This post and this post shows how to get around it.

FAQ and Common Troubleshooting Issues

Q. I playing 1.09 Classic, and I have been muling items off into ATMA. Now, I can't move certain items back onto my characters.

A. Go to Options -> Game Edit and click on the "Character Link" tab. The last option (freeform) should be checked. If not, click on it and hit Apply.

Game Modifications

These change the game out of the box in some way. There are three which are accepted on the SPF:
RWM enables Bnet only runewords. RRM changes the colours of runes to red. CRM enables changing the rune colours to many different colours. Please ensure you understand the difference before MP/trade.

RWM for PC 1.11b and 1.12a- download Updated link - Guide
RRM for PC 1.11b and 1.12a - download - Updated link - Guide
CRM for PC 1.11b and 1.12a- download

RWM/RRM for Macs - download here for 1.12a - Guide

My own installed copy of RWM and RRM is zipped and here filename RWMRRM.7z. This is Runeword mod and Red Rune Mod together. Just unzip that in the D2 folder as it is, change the shortcuts so they match the last photo in the guide and you should have BOTH RWM and RRM working. It is a ZIP file created by 7zip.

Mac version in same directory as the above link, it comes in two parts.

RWM/RRM and Ubuntu

Hey Huriel,

This one confused me for a while and in the end I repacked the MPQ's with the mods included so they'd work.

But recently, I found out how to do it without that.

3 important steps:

1) Install the mods in the normal way - Note you have to install RWM in the base dir, not a seperate one like the guide suggests.

So you should have something similar to:

D2 dir: /home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2
RWM: /home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2/data/global/excel/Runes.txt
RRM: /home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2/data/local/lng/eng/expansionstring.tbl
/home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2/data/local/lng/eng/patchstring.tbl

2) IMPORTANT: Cd to the base d2 directory: cd /home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2

If you recall, windows has a box in shortcuts that says "run in". This is not present in Linux, the "run in" variable is taken from the current directory the terminal is in. This is the step I missed and without it, you won't be able to run the mods.

3)
wine Diablo II.exe -direct -txt -ns -w

(Or without the ns and w if you want sound and full screen :) )

Hope that works!

Reporting Utilities

Flavie is a reporting tool which can show you how many of each unique, set, rune and gems you have and whether they are in use, eth or in a stash.

Flavie - download

Other Game Changes

We don't allow many of these and they should always be cleared by the Moderators before being used.

Modified d2gfx.dll to run more than one copy of D2 at a time - downloads - download the version you need and rename the file to d2gfx.dll
Silo's modifying the .dll explation to run multiple copies.

UPDATE - Blizzard will BAN you from Battlenet for using this. If you log onto Battlenet use the original D2gfx.dll file. Don't forget to backup your old DLL file, especially if you may want to play on BNet.

D2 Variants

These are variants of D2 with different gameplay. MP and trading withing these varients are allowed but they may not interact with 'normal, out of the box' D2.

Median - download - support
Probably the best known mod. Incredibly work by Laz.

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

I installed Atma a few days ago. During the installation, my copy of ZoneAlarm Pro said it was malicious software. I don't think atma is, I've used it before and never had trouble with it. I ignored the message and installed anyways.

When i did a deep inspection scan for spyware, ZoneAlarm recognized ATMA.exe as dangerous and deleted it. Does anybody have a workaround for this?

EDIT: This doesn't have anything to do with connecting to the internet. ZoneAlarm Pro also does a spyware/malicious program scan.

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

There's nothing wrong with ATMA, but zonealarm is notoriously bad at working together with other software. You can try looking for help over at the zonealarm site. Or just get something better.

GoMule Updates:

Now my exams *and degree!* is over, I've started work on GoMule again. Got some exciting new ideas to come along, right after this list of bug and "omg it would be totally sweet if..." fixes I have to do.

It's going well. Apparently I had already fixed 5 of them.

Take note kids, software fails because of poor communication and bad documentation. I can't even succeed at those two by myself :)

Oh and also: Any MAC users out there? You guys can't right click right? So I guess all these features I've added to the right click menu don't work? Or is there some shift click or stupid apple button click that lets you access it? Or am I going to have to put in some more dumb hacky code to get round the fact that Sun doesn't know what "uniformity" means?

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

Silo: Us mac users can right-click if we don't use the standard mouse that comes with the computer, and command-click tends to work in the same manner as the right mouse button on most programs, either that or control-click.

Doesn't that mean you're out of excuses to stay out of the IRC channel (#rtb at irc.enterthegame.com for anyone interested)? :badteeth:

I may have a file or two that could be useful for GoMule. :wink2:

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

Help!

I turned off the auto-save option in ATMA when I installed 1.07, because I diidn't want to permanently screw anything up. Now, I really hope I haven't screwed something up permanently!

I was using ATMA to mule my one and only SoJ between characters. After moving it, I unthinkingly closed both characters while I did something else. When I opened up the character I was intending to play, the SoJ was gone, and it's not on the character from whom I muled it! Is there any way for me to get it back? I am gonna be really upset if my SoJ is gone permanently!

Edit: Another bit of info- I had all my ATMA stashes backed up, but it never occured to me before now that I need to back up my characters too :(

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

Did you turn off auto-backup as well?

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

Auto Save doesn't screw anything up, which is why it's on permanently on GoMule. The only reason you'd need to turn it off would be to hotmule.

Like Muzz says, check your backups.

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

Did you turn off auto-backup as well?

I believe I did. Again, I meant to turn all that stuff on again as soon as I was sure I knew how to use ATMA with both 1.11 and 1.07, but I hadn't quite gotten there yet.

Where do I find backups of characters? I can find backups of my ATMA stashes easily enough, but I don't know where ATMA keeps character file backups. If there are character backups stored somewhere, possibly one of them will contain my SoJ :undecided:

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

In the same directory as your character saves. They are .org files.

I would drag them one by one to your desktop, and open them with ATMA. Rename it to a .d2s file.

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

My atma is getting screwed up. It goes good for a little while, however after a bit, it creates folders randomly. These folders could contain a stash however the stashes in the folders don't do anything. Here is a picture of what i'm talking about

Atma picture

The folders "s" and "Armor" are the glitched folders. I can delete them but they come back next time i start Atma. What causes this? could i have a corrupted stash? or item?

OMG thank you Thy! The SoJ is indeed back on the finger of my cheesydin. For my further info- I turned autosave and autobackup back on, but not autoraise or auto 1.10-->1.11. Will having these two options turned off have any potential consequences? Will having them turned on mess with my 1.07 files?

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

Repeat after me: 7zip is good. 7zip'd ATMA files and stashes are to be emailed to myself at regular intervals.

I don't believe having backups/saves ON and upgrade OFF will have any effect. Although I don't play 1.07 and Mungo doesn't mule in 1.07.

For future reference, if you need to find something like that, be careful you don't load the most recent ATMA save and then have it overwrite a previous save that you might need. That made sense to me.

atma drop Q

Hoj.
I'm looking for nat's claw, and according to atma's drop calculator pindleskin will have the best chance of dropping it at 270 mf.
Is this calculator right or is this nonsense that so low will benefit me the most?

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

@Jahgro: my guess would be that you have a corrupt ATMA config file. Try opening it in notepad and see if any lines refer to those "glitched" directories.

@Nightswipe: I'm far too lazy to check the exact numbers, but it's definitely possible. The game rolls for each quality in succession, going from higher qualities to lower qualities. So after a certain point, the higher quality checks get a high enough chance to succeed that they start to "block" the lower qualities slightly.

But unless that claw is really the only item you want, I'd put on as much MF as you can comfortably achieve. The lowered set chance is hardly noticeable, and you'll still get more S/U's over time.

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

I installed Atma IV because when I tried to read my 1.10 beta files it said that Atma V is not compatible. The problem is that when I try to open any of the 1.09 stashes in Atma IV it makes Atma crash.

Is there a way to use Atma V for 1.10s?
Is there a way to read 1.09 files with Atma IV, both .d2s and .d2x?

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

You need to put your 1.09 items onto mules, open them in 1.10beta, then open them in ATMA IV to transfer

EDIT
no idea, I just know that the above method works (from experience)

Re: The Mods, Muling and Utilities Thread (new ATMA/GoMule thread)

@Jahgro - Here was silos response last time this came up how to get cleaner folders. You can use the method to clean up both the save files and item files. Don't worry if you delete too much, as silo says, you can delete all the contents if you want. You jst have to load the files again if you do that.

Edit: @Lionheart - Thanks, I suppose the answer to my question is no then? Atma IV does not work with 1.09?
