Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge

Hi all,
sad to report that Pound fell victim to a combination of carelessness and IM. I saw OKs in WSK3 and had managed to use my standard tactic of separating out the melee knights and then getting close to the casters. Unfortunately, there was another OK some way off, who cast IM in mid zeal. The rest you know, or can probably guess ...

Sorry to see you go. I am even sorrier to see Pound go. I had personalized a nice Paladin sword in anticipation:

Tennyson's "The Atlantean" Unique Ancient Sword
One-Hand Damage: 55 to 133
+16 to Strength; +12 to Dexterity; +8 to Vitality; +211% Enhanced Damage
+75 Defense; +100 Maximum Durability; +2 to Paladin Skill Levels; 50% Bonus to Attack Rating

Now, it appears that it will never be used. Ignatow is the next Paladin and two characters would have to die for me to get him in Hell Act 5. Not to mention that I would have to get to Hell act 5.

Sorry for your RIP, waflob.

Ironic, after I just posted about the same thing. Actually, it's probably more about luck, and build, than anything else. I did actually get IM'd in mid battle, a few times, but lived through it, with no Zealing going on. I was also trying to root out the mages.

If I was a Zealot of any sort, I'd be dividing and conquering, further. Pull those Knights way away from the Mages, until curses aren't being cast. It's a nice theory, if possible.

Or, just watch your trusty merc, and keep reviving him. Definitely let the merc kill all mages.

Sorry to hear about Pound's death! And I'm sorry I won't get to see him- one of the great things about this tourney is opening the characters to see what the build is. I like Frostalots and think they are very sturdy, if not flashy, so it's too bad he met his end.

In Act 5, when a primarily melee character runs into OKs and OMs, I consider it totally reasonable to go back to town, save and exit. and then try again and hope the next time there aren't any. Even standing back with a TP open watching the merc and listening for the dreaded IM sound will still probably result in a few merc deaths. In a tourney like this, where you can't sell valuable items, gold for merc deaths can be a big concern. Maybe I am just a wimp, though!

In Act 4, Zealing with possible IM is almost unavoidable. So for an elemental Zealot, usually either I switch to a low damage weapon (my favorite is the Diggler or a wand with elemental damage, for style points) or go with some kind of throwing weapon (hopefully with Prevent Monster Heal) and take it real slow. Hell is even worse with the immunities, of course!

Sorry to hear about Pound Waflob. That makes the second person downstream of me to bow out of the tourney. But neither were on my creations.

I had the joy of taking Pound the Frost Zealot through the CS in Act 4. Thankfully, I had a Magewrath. I pretty much played him as a ranger throughout all of Act4. Only used the S/S to do some testing on the Peace Valk and to Tank Diablo. The Valk actually came in quite handy since I was playing ranged.

I can see you're trying to make me feel even worse about this by giving me a guilty concience as well :-)

If you want, I can forward the mail on to you, with Pound at the start of act 5. I won't be anything to do with the tournament, but you could at least take him out for a 'test drive', or more if you want.

Of course, this depends on SkunkBelly (as tournament orgasinser) being cool with this. If he's not, just threaten to stop his pocket-money ;->

Let me know and I'll see to it.

No, let poor Pound rest in peace.

As for any guilt you may be feeling, forget it! I have to get Sidney (necromancer) through Hell Act 1 before I can really regret Pound's demise. Since I hate Necromancers and have never played one in Hell, it is a rather good bet that I will get my deeds screen with Sidney. If anyone should feel guilty, it is EJB for not burying Sidney. Of course, I am still waiting for Sidney. Maybe EJB will bury him. I can always hope!

Just popped into a library to quickly use the internet, as I currently don't have it at my new house. I don't know when I'll be getting it at home so I think it might be best if I dropped out. I apologise for any inconvenience caused, and I will send back the original stash when I get my home PC back online.

Sorry,
Milb

I guess Ignatow is done with NM. Got tired of running, trying to find something good to personalize. Not much MF probably didn't help. Decided that I'd like some 3 socketed armor, being I never had any to begin with, and went with that. En route to my new forwardee, Gabriel.

Elite items for me:

Alma Negra sacred rondache
Bloodmoon elegant blade

Laying of Hands bramble mitts ?elite?
Whitstan's Guard round shield ?elite?
Guillame's Face winged helm ?elite?

Not sure if all the upper sets are considered elite, but that's what I have.

I have actually just made Baal drop, so I guess I should feel guilt...but there is still a chance he could go down...I am running the Throne and pindle for items...nothing of any use has dropped in this act... I guess that will be my penance for not killing him...

Then I've done you a huge favour - if Pound hadn't pounded himself to death (sorry - couldn't resist it), you would have gotten the necro in act 2, which I think would have been worse due to the maggot lair. Necros down there are just soooooo painfully slow (except a good boner, which are fun).

Good luck anyway (to all of you)

I'm back

Since Milb has left us, Milosz will be sacrificed. I've sent Lowell on to Ohomemgrande.

Amazing! With the demise of Milosz, I could actually end up playing in Act 5 with my first Character (Kenyon). Of course, there is a lot of hell to cross before then.

Sorry to hear that you can't continue, Milb. But I am happy to realize, like Wolron, that there is now a chance I'll see my starting character again. My "anticpated Hell A1 character" table was a bit premature, so I'll have another go at it:

And then there were 12...

Milb Milosz- (barb, abandoned)

It would be great to hear what Milosz was like from someone who played him along the way!

He was a berserker when I got him, but he was underleveled, and my gear didn't work well, so I added about 8 points into WW. It made him a breeze through NM Act III.

edit: Speaking of underleveled, man, if everyone elses character is underleveled when they get them for Act I, we may have a few more deaths.

I know that SB should be safe.

I forget when/where I had Milosz - maybe Act5 Norm, or Act2 NM... anyway what I remember is him having no decent attack skill. I don't think he had any points in Berserk when I got him (though possibly 1-3... anyone else seeing a pattern here in my misinformation? usually I have a pretty decent memory). Looking at my screenies I took before sending him off at Lvl 46, I'd have to guess I had him for A5 Norm. I put 5 into Berserk because he already had 13 (!) points in Howl, which I didn't at first realize was a synergy for Berserk.

Needless to say I thought this guy was another Frost, but upon realizing the potential I set to work and after investing a few into Berserk, dumped a lot into BO, as well as putting points in Mastery - he may have had sword mastery before I got him, but I had no swords so I went for 1 into Axe mastery. I upped his strength and vitality mainly, and when I sent him on I thought he was a reasonably well built character, although those points in Howl would have been better spent in Berserk's other synergy, Shout.

Sad to see all the melee characters dropping like flies, but them's the breaks.

Sorry for the drop out Milb, always bad to lose someone for internet connectivity reasons. But I must say, I'm elated (me doing happy dance ->:jig: ) that I won't be getting a melee character for Act 2. My gear is way more caster oriented and the thought of taking on all of those unleechable undead with a poor weapon was not exciting. Also means I might get a sorc for Act3 so I can do my first SP LK runs.

But it also means I'll have a chance at Pali Act 4 Sin Act 5 for the THIRD time. I guess, if I want variety one of us must to die (probably me).

I'll just be happy to get through Act 1. Already had a NDE with a stair trap in the Forgotten town. Mobbed by double boss pack of Ghosts. Notley is a bit underleved so she's going slow right now. But not nearly as underleveled as Olga

No, you'll have a Necromancer (assuming I do good in Act 1) and it will probably be a Fishymancer or something (I haven't looked at him yet). Then you'll die of tedium in the Maggot lair or have to visit all 4 branches of the Arcane Sanctuary and get careless or something

Good luck with Notley. That was one Amazon that I didn't try to mess up!

On a related note, I'm sad that I won't be able to have Miloz take Hellslayer out for a spin. I figure it was the one chance to use my original Elite Unique. @Milb: sorry you're dropping out; thanks for passing entertaining toons.

Sidney is ready to pass on, Pindle finally gave up something halfway usefull, a Peasant Crown...Compaired to my other availible hats, it is quite a step up.

Any who, my Elites are as follows
Hellslayer
Marrow walks
Titans Revenge
Whistans Guard
Credendum

I don't know where the Titan's fall...So I listed them anyway

EJB

Edit: Though I didn't find anything too great for my personalizing pleasure..I did find two skillers.. a Elemental skiller for all of our dead druids, and a Cold skiller. Hopefully I will be able to use one of em...

Have a good weekend
EJB

I just returned to school this week, and have been busy trying not to fall behind on my school work. As a result I haven't finished Act 5 yet (with Dickenson). I am at the WSK level 2 wp though, and I don't see any reason why I wont have her finished and passed on to Hrus before today is finished.

Sorry for the lateness (again)
