it wasn't a harlequin crest. it was yellow.
yellow=unique
grayish=rare
Gold = Unique. Unique items have fixed properties.
Green = Set. Set items have fixed properties.
Yellow = Rare. Rare Items have up to 6 random properties.
Blue = Magic. Magic Items have 1 or 2 random properties.
Grayish = Superior and/or Ethereal. Superior items have slight increases to damage, defense, attack rating, and/or durability. Ethereal Items have 50% increase to base defense/damage.
Orange = Crafted. Crafted items have 3 fixed properties (based on the crafting recipe) and 1-4 random properties.

gold = unique (the really good shako everyone wants).. item has set mods
yellow = rare (what you found, probably no one wanted)...item has a bunch of mods at random
gray = socketed or ethereal
white = normal
blue = magical --item has 1 or 2 mods at random

Regarding the ease of typing...why not "Crest" ???

Same number of letters as shako, and only about a billion times more descriptive.

edit: oops, turtle beat me by a minute, included set items, and was more informative :)

Gold items drop much less often than rare items. This page on The Arreat Summit shows the different colors of the titles of different types of items. You'll have to scroll up and down to see them all. Be careful of the information you find on the summit, much of it is incorrect.

where's gold? do i need to change my contrast on d2?
Gold Unique items are right below Green Set items. Since you're on USEast, look for me tonight (*ionlyliveonce, *billysballoon) and i'll show you how all the different items look in game.

Also, you can edit your posts for up to 1 hour after posting. Double-posting is against the rules.

I'm color blind, for me the items appear like this:

Unique: green
Rare: yellow
Magic: blue
Eth/sox: grey
Crafted: orange
NonMagic: white

So it's the same list, only difference is I see no gold items, I see those as green :wink3:
