Everything has been going smooth for Natasha. Unfortunately I've only managed to find 2 sets of rare boots which have both been terrible.

Well after doing so well, Elessar has died. Was always the courageous sort, charging headlong into enemies without thought for his own safety, well this time it was his undoing. Charged into a group of scarab beetles in the maggot lair and their lightning damage ripped through 700+ life in an instant.

Was plenty o fun, so i shall definitely have another crack, not sure what char or build just yet, will think of it over breakfast. Want to shy away from a barb/pally, looking for something more challenging.

@edit: After much deliberation, have entered Boxxy the Assassin into the fray. She's cute, an absolute airhead (hence the sword, instead of using claws) and very very annoying.

After the minor set back of having to give up the sword and boots (I re-completed said areas with legit gear), I was able to socket a decent claymore and continue into Act 3 with little to no difficulty. About half-way through the Flayer Jungle, in one of the strangest twists of fortune I've ever seen in this game, I happened across a rare Giant Sword with almost the exact same mods as the other sword I was forced to give up (30% enhanced damage, 2 sockets, +max damage, 10% attack speed) with the added bonus of knockback. Ormus' ring was completely useless, but it filled the final space. I also happened across one of the greatest pieces of rare body armor I've ever seen in this game. Unfortunately, the rules of this tourney forbid me of turning this into a 30% tri-res to fire, lightning, and cold. I killed Meph on /p1 and am now resting in the Pandemonium Fortess.

Deeds. Lvl 32. Infector of Souls. Inferno'd to death in two seconds flat, on /players 1. Thus ends the campaign of Dorcas---if nothing else, the Sorceress who made the most progress in this tournament. For now.

I haven't decided whether I'll re-enter as a different class or not. I'm looking at my options...

Whew!

The Chaos Sanctuary and Diablo were NDE central for Sangar (and repeated death central for Jemali and his hapless spear). Somehow, though, the two managed to prevail. During the journey through hell, Sangar socketed a nice 3os Flamberge that dropped with a couple of +9 to max damage items and a skull for some leech, which gave him a faster rate at which to return 8% damage to himself. It was a nice weapon upgrade, but in case you didn't know: Iron Maiden + Sacrifice = NDEs. It happened twice before I started taking things much slower, kiting a few enemies back to take them out, using the cleansing aura to reduce the curse time. Amp Damage is almost as bad when using Sacrifice, so it was touch and go for a while.

I had to let the infector of Souls and his pack chase the Devout Duo across the Sanctuary or else we were toast, even with Salvation running to offset their infernos. Diablo, then, was a real mess, and I was ever so thankful that I'd cubed a number of rejuvs into Full Rejuvs, because it doesn't matter how much lightning resist you have against that pink hose. Finally, after about six TPs and resurrections of Jemail, the big D fell, and left Boneflesh plate mail (unusable), but a moderate upgrade to Jemali's sucky spear: a rare scythe with +1 to barbarian skills (alright!) mana leech (woo-hoo!) and +mana after each kill (SWEEEET!). Well, at least the merc won't be hurting for mana, and his barbarian skills have been boosted. :)

Sangar is resting in Harrogath, while I prepare a character to enter (and fail) the MFO. The Devout Duo will return soon. In the meantime, good luck!

Although later in the game this would be advantageous because it would appear I'd have a better chance of winning, I believe this is a disadvantage at this point. More powerful characters are having issues with the infector of souls so at this point I have no reason to believe that for me this would be any different.

I'm considering doing some things for more optimisation. One of them is making a blood helm or belt to help kill D. My Act 1 sash is certainly getting old and I'm missing having four slots. The problem, of course, is that I only have one perfect ruby (thanks HF - which btw I got an Ith from).

Maybe I should run Andariel again. She won't drop a unique two-hander, so its a safe place to run. But... boring. Naturally I'm reluctant to do Mephy runs.

Has anyone had success with crafting this early in the game? I still haven't used my imbue either. I could simply imbue something for an upgrade. But I'd like to wait until I have to (although often this means "wait until its too late, and I die").

Boxxy has cleared out everything up to and included the tower quest and has already found 20+ rares and 1 unique buckler, the only slots left are a ring and amulet, strange? Is there some sort of base mf for each char class before mf on gear is added? Either way she's seems very good at finding rares.

Well, the OrangeJuice has begun the concentration process, clearing the Den, killing Blood Raven, and meeting his buddy Blaise, the Cold Rogue.

So far, he has 3 points in Bash, Sword Mastery, and Shout (with single points in all the pre-reqs and Taunt), and things have been very easy. No NDEs, no interesting finds.

Just another short update before calling it quits for tonight.

Act 4 was slow and boring. Tackling the enemies on /p8 was like hitting rocks with other (smaller) rocks - high hp, low damage. Berserk was used almost exclusively in the Chaos Sanctuary to avoid an Iron Maiden death, but I almost deeded myself anyway when I was IMed during a Leap Attack retreat, barely exceeding striking range of a nearby enemy. I eventually chipped my way to Diablo who was difficult even on /p1. Near max resistances and 850+ HP still couldn't tank big D's Lightning Hose, so the battle took a while. Upon dying, Diablo didn't drop anything interesting save some decent merc sticks, which I'll save in case I pick up an A2 merc in Nightmare.

The Bloody Foothills were surprisingly easier than Act 4, though still slow and yielding little exp. During my battle with Shenk, I was aided by a local Barbarian who, unfortunately, died before the killing blow.

Ten. She has ten lives.

Gurloes is now in Act II. I'm starting to realize that he is very much a glass cannon... I need some leech. Badly. Either kind will work. I'm thinking I'll cube up as many skulls as I can, then throw the highest-quality skull I can get ahold of into a Claymore, along with some other decent gems. Holy Freeze is still not that useful... very low radius. :/

A few questions:

1. Are all quests required? It would fit with the theme I guess, but since it's not mentioned and I'm lazy, I thought I'd ask before starting.

2. If a rare wand with Lifetap charges happens to drop (dunno if it can, and even then it's unlikely), can I use the Tap with my Barb?

3. Is it okay to jig in here? I'll jig away now for a while, whether it's ok or not. :scratchchin: :coffee:

4. Am I allowed to save and exit in order to (duh) save myself, or is such unmanly conduct simply below our high heroic standards?

5. Am I allowed to socket magic jewels into my sword? They are blue but I don't wield them per se. :scratchchin:

Edit2: Not knowing the rule regarding this, I saved & exited when being surrounded by goats in Normal Act I Barracks. For all intents and purposes the situation was hopeless. I will wait before continuing to know if I'm disqualified.

I'm not really the voice of authority here, but I'm just giving my best guesses.

1. Since the rules don't say anything about it, I'd say no. Style points for completing everything but I don't think it's mandatory.

2. I really don't know, but I'm going to say no.

4. Again, the rules don't say anything about it so I'd say you're free to do as you wish. Just try not to make a habit of it.

5. Anything you find can be socketed into swords and only swords. Charms are also fine.

Act 5 was a test of patience more than anything else, as nothing came close to killing me. At the first opportunity, I parted ways with my good companion Scorch and joined a young Barbarian warrior who was essentially a mirror of myself. I gave him a nice rare Giant Sword I had found earlier with good damage and life steal. Hacking away at enemies on /p8 was sloooooow but gave good exp, usually netting me a level per area. I tackled the throne and Baal on /p1, Baal taking forever to kill but dropping my first permanent pair of rare boots all game. Destroyer myswordisbigger is now resting comfortably in NM Act 1. :coffee:

@Greizer: As to S&E to avoid death: commonly considered pure cheese and generally disallowed in all tournaments (otherwise I'd probably have gotten past A2 Normal with some toons).



Ok. OrangeJuice rescued the old man and cleared out the forgotten tower. Countess dropped a Tir. :coffee:

He had an NDE while whacking away at a Blood Hawk Nest. . . a couple of Goatmen ran up (I didn't bother to check mods or anything. . . they just looked like everyday Goatmen to me), two whacks and OJ had to run away. Turns out one was Fanatic, the other was Berzerker. Jeez. Thank gods for Shout and the Barbie's high life pool (and the return of minimal amounts of dexterity to my fingers: now able to actually hit the 'x' key! :jig:)

The Deathly Zeath was born today and made his way to Act II.
Everything went smooth excluding many close calls in the barracks.
Time will only tell how long Zeath's curses will keep him alive, or in a state close enough to it.

Not much exciting about Act 4. Just relying on Emilio to do the killing and my bear to do the tanking. Diablo must have killed Emilio at least 7 times, but there's still plenty of gold in the stash. He dropped a multitude of rares, most of which were unusable. However, there was a nice scale mail that I'll wear, passing my current armor down to Emilio.

Not much to report since Boxxy's last update. Negotiated Act I without to much fuss on P4. Once i got to the outer cloister i pretty much just raced around looking for the next area. Went and got the cube in Act II and killed radament, spend the last 20mins running Andy looking for some decent rares, managed to get an ammy with some pretty useless mods but it will do till something better comes along. She dropped a rare ring with some good mods including 10% mf. Up next the maggot lair and beyond.

@edit: Was working my way through the Arcane Sanctuary when this dropped from a random monster!!! Took the screen shot before i picked it up, and when i did i just hoped it would be eth, no such luck. Oh well, i guess someone had to be the first to have Shadowfang as there SoD. Now let's see how far i can get with it.
