Top X moments of D2

1. In classic 1.0 (or whatever version came on the distribution cds) days, successfully gambling the last part of Sigons set for a barb.

2. My first guardian (skelliemancer)

3. My first (and only) SOJ - in a tournament where I couldn't use it !!

4. Opening a random chest in the jail in hell and seeing a vex pop out.

5. Using a frenzy barb to run the Countess for keys and suddenly realising that I've gained about 10 levels.

6. Giving my bone nec's merc my first ever insight stick and being able to spam bone spears and not worry about mana.

7. First time in the secret cow level.

8. Using a freezealot in the cow level for the first time. When the cows get hit, they go 'moo' and jerk back a little bit. When a whole herd get hit by the aura, they all go 'MOO' and all jerk back at the same time. Looks really funny - like they were auditioning for a Michael Jackson video :-)

If anyone wonders why this game has to much lasting appeal, they should just read this thread.

similar to the soj, finding a green ammy, almost not bothering to pick it up since it came from a pot in ancient tunnels. And almost getting a heartattack when reading Tal rascha.

Finding Gul from a stach in kurast

Realising that the games wasn´t over after act 4 normal before LOD came out.

Grandfather from pindle, never thought i would ever see one.

Pick up two unique rings from a bonepiller (bonestash or something like that) in river of flame, one was Soj and Other was Manald.

Pindle droped a Unique Thunder Maul... I picked up and saved and exit, I was so exited about this, then when I loaded I realised my inv was full... no maul... I almost started to cry... then I found it in my Horadric cube while in atma... How it got there I still don't know, I did NOT put it there... :)

1. killing Baal for the first time and realizing the truth... I got to do it 2 more times before I could finish the game.
2. after killing baal in hell mode and realizing the truth... no their is no secret ending!!!!
3. putting on arcaines valor for the first time and not hearing the "may the acients protect me" (or what ever that was that they said in daiblo 1) and wondering to myself wth did I do somthing wrong here?

Spectacular deaths, such as taking a nice long whirlwind at diablo just as he fired off his lightning hose, then watching helplessly as I bathed in it the whole way. Also various self kills, mostly IM but also one by sacrifice.

The perfect drop: my first HC character, a bowazon struggling along with crappy bows, when Lycander's Aim pops out of a chest in the barracks in NM. Yowza! (she and the bow subsequently died to FE ancients at level 86).

Man. You guys all have really good memories.

One of my favorite memories was picking up the Expansion Pack when it first came out. I'd played D2, and enjoyed it, but didn't really become an addict. I took a couple different players through the end of Normal, but never bothered with Nightmare.

Then D2X came out, and it was all over for me. Runes. Charms. Assassins. Druids. 800x600 resolution. More balanced skills. Lots more sweet items. I never could take a character far into Nightmare because I kept wanting to start new builds to try them out. (I am just now, after 7 years, getting around to taking a character all the way through Hell. I'm realizing that the game truly gets fun in Nightmare.)

I'd also have to say that the feeling of entering a room absolutely full of swarming monsters, to the point where you have that moment of "dear GOD I'm f**ked"...then you get the eye of the tiger and just wade in and start dealing death with reckless abandon...until you have to run, or TP, or chug potions like mad, always returning to the fray, until finally you (and maybe your merc) are the only things left standing in a room full of corpses and items.

Which reminds me. This game needs the ability to do some kind of strut or celebration roar at moments like that. In Knights of the Old Republic, whenever I survived a harsh fight, I could flourish my lightsabers around to show how much of a bad*ss I really was.

1)finaly getting over 100 damage for the first time (what a feeling that is)

2)getting over 1k damage for the first time

3)trading with freinds for all the chipped and flawed rubys they had to get my first ever perfect ruby while still in act 2.

4)beating baal for the first time ever

I’m not sure if it’s the best or worst moment but….
I originally purchased D2 for my then 16 year old daughter, who swore by the game.
My moment came when I realized I was booting her off the ‘puter too play.
I was more hooked than she was. It’s been my game since. She no longer plays.

"May the spirit of Arkaine protect me." I believe it was.

So far my best moment was finally finding a Knell Striker after hundreds of ColdCrow runs. My next best moment will be finally finding a Silks of the Victor from, well, whoever drops it, thus completing my set of normal uniques.

Says the guy with 4 harlies, and 2 dragonscales.:badteeth:

1. My first ever Patriarch (I'd done it!)

2. Watching Jamella's runing writing (A thing of beauty)

3. Any gold item drop (Because it may be better than the one you've already got)

4. Surviving a real hard, large number of monsters fight. (EncrustedDaddy: at these moments my Barbarian recasts BC/BO/Shout as an act of triumph)

5. Still, 6 years later on, saying to yourself "just one more level/waypoint/item" and then realising another few hours have passed

...and that little Smiter (Hps_MadCaddiesMan) kept on Smiting!

I approve of this name.

My moment was quite recent. Had a HC fishymancer who made it into NM. Very proud of him. Then he gets stabbed to death by a devilkin as his minions are busy killing the Smith, and it was all for naught. Then, his rebuilt version approaches the Barracks in NM, and I get the tingles of "will he pass the quest this time?". BAM! Smith dead. And yesterday, BAM! Hell Smith dead as well. Maybe the Smith is my early-game Ancients battle.

Moo moo moo moo. The voices made that level.

yep, I think I died 4 times the first time I entered the cow level. Either because my character sucked (he did, very much) or I was laughing so much it was hard to pay attention.

1. Making my first Patriarch (Fred the Polebarb) after playing him for 5 months

^ that's definitely #1, but these are a little more interchangable:

2. Reading/laughing through some of the threads around here like "OT: In my pants" - I need to resurrect that thread.

3. Finding my first gold scourge ever, ID'ing it and finding it was the right one.

4. Finding Mang's Song Lesson in the pits, immediately saving and exiting, and then have the computer crash about 12 seconds later - wow that was close. :yikes:

5. Finding a Griffon's Eye in the pits when I was such a noob I didn't know it was special - and not having the D2 Gods zap my computer that time so I could finish my run.

6. Finding a perfect Scintillating Jewel of Fervor and auctioning it to lemming for a bunch items that are still a huge percentage of my overall wealth.

7. When I finally get my hands on that elusive Sander's Cap and complete my TC3 grail.

8. Whenever I eventually pat a necro and finally complete a septavirate.

9. Whenever that first Guardian comes along (uh, first I have to play HC a little).

... that's it - gotta go for a hike.

1) Killing Diablo for the first time on Classic - it took me about 2 hours to clear the CS but I had to go out then, left my computer running until I got home a little tipsy, died about 50 times but I think I ended up blazing him to death!

2) Finishing my IK Set on Bnet - I was so proud of my shiny aura, and I managed to find/trade for it without using any mules at all!

3) Finding an Ohm off Mephisto on Ladder 2 - made a legit Cta 5, was my precioussssss!

4) Finding another Ohm - Jail Level on the 2nd Day of Ladder 3, ended up becoming another legit Cta, 4 iirc, took a while to get the Ist and Mal though!

5) Quiting Bnet

6) Starting SP

7) Quiting SC

8) Starting HC

9) Killing the Ancients on Hell for the first time on HC, it was so nerve racking, but I did it comfortably in the end.

10) First Guardian, was pretty straightforward after the Ancients but it was still a relief when Baal went down :flip:

Except for the tipsy part this is very similar to my first diablo experience. Died a lot, probably went back for potions 8 or 9 times, died some more, than he dropped me my first ever gold item, belt. I wore that thing forever.

You could always make a singer barbarian and for those kind of fights make a grim ward when your finished or yell some battle orders hehehehehe...

Finding Silks of the victor and trade it for sigons set. (1.01 or 1.03) I still remember it, regreted it ever since.

Good thread!

Lemme see ...

- after my restart one of my first high-end unique during my beginning Pit runs ended up being an Astreon's Ward. I found that damn item way before finding an Isenharts or (insert common item here). Bizarre.

- back in the day when I was a necro summoner through and through and doing Pit run after Pit run until my eyes were bleeding and I had severe RSI in my right wrist ... the only item that was missing in my items arsenal was a Homunculus. I was using a rare necro head that was decent but had no blocking whatsoever and a necro summoner always had to have a Homu! Finally a level 2 devilkin boss dropped it and I threw up my hands in the air and let out a whoop! It was awesome.

- kicking a bucket and popping a Lo on the ground. Did a triple take on that one.

- kicking a log while doing p8 LK runs and popping a Stormshield.

- gambling a Metalgrid.

... many more.

Wow, some nice moments (and some bad) here, I may add something:

- Discovering the SPF while navegating in search for help for a certain information (I think it was runewords info), that was a GREAT day!

- Discovering all the info the SPF has (back into 1.09 early days) and knowing about hell difficulty, proper gear distribution, proper character building and how to kick monster's @$$

- Back into 1.09 days, I was given several items, including elite equipment like a baranar's (that in 1.09 was godly) and knowing than the SPF is a great place

- Getting the "Patriarch" letters for the first time

- ATMA ('nuff said)

A few for me:

- Learning that Barb warcries weren't for singing sissies

- Getting slaughtered by 1.08/.09 Hell Ancients multiple times

- Finally getting my hands on my desired Lightsaber in 1.09.

- Dying three times the first time my unintentional Titan Barb fought Diablo, but still being really excited.

- Deciding that I wanted to have a bonesnap for my new barb, then actually finding one from Baal the same day!
