Tips to Make the Strongest Overall/General Sorceress

Hi, Everyone,
I have been building Sorceresses since the first day of Diablo 2 and have built over 25 level 90+ Sorceresses, but have not built any special ones in particular in very many years. During my hiatus from the game, a lot of new items and features have been implemented, and I am now trying to build the strongest Sorceress possible.

I read a few guides, but nothing seems to stand out. I am trying to build the strongest overall/general Sorceress; in other words, a Sorceress who can both kill and survive in all areas of Hell difficulty (not just specialized areas, which seems to be what most guides focus on).

At this point, my wealth is limited, so some items will not be sought. However, please point out the best items a powerful Sorceress will need.

Thank you,
Victor Ly

Inifinity light-sorc comes to mind.

Lightning immunities are the easiest to break with infinity's conviction (used by your merc), and as such, there are suddenly extremely few monsters in the game you can't kill -and kill quickly - with a pure lightning sorceress.

Thanks for replying, zhaigawd. Conviction allows lightning immune monsters to get hurt by lightning damage?

Are there any other build suggestions, especially those that do not require as much wealth? Thank you.

I've been enjoying building both a meteorb and a FO/CL sorc recently. Jury is still out on the FO/CL (too much watching, not enough playing this weekend) but the meteorb with Tal Rasha certainly can bonk heads.

Infinity polearm can indeed break some lightning immunity to allow lightning damage. It seems to break more lightning immunes with conviction and it's native "-enemy lightning resistance" so it's good for microwaving packs of monsters instead of barbecuing.

Note about the "-enemy lightning resistance" mod:
- it only helps your damage output if you weild the 'Infinity' yourself (not your Merc)
- it can never break immunities (only the Conviction aura itself can)

You want a non-specialist build that'll kill and survive anywhere, but you aren't willing to spend time (accumulate wealth) on it. If this character existed, it'd be the most popular cookie-cutter build ever.

Functional triumvirate
If it's fast and right, it won't be cheap.

Would be nice if you didn't assume right off the bat that I am not "willing to spend time (accumulate wealth) on it."

I have spent a lot of time on it accumulating wealth since the first week of ladder. In fact, I followed your Hardcore Orb/TK Blind-Teleporting Budget MF Sorceress guide and for the last several weeks, I have been magic finding with her nonstop, trying to obtain items so that I can build a stronger Sorceress. At level 91, she is still my only character because I am doing nothing much more than accumulating wealth.

Hope you're not always this judgmental. Thanks for replying.

Yeah, you're right, I was being pretty judgmental. I read "At this point, my wealth is limited, so some items will not be sought" and "Are there any other build suggestions, especially those that do not require as much wealth?" and just assumed you were lazy (because I am).

Wasn't mean to be snooty or arrogant, but I can see how it comes off that way. Pardon me.

Anyhow, the point I was trying to make was this: scarcity requires sacrifice. An exceptional few builds have the capacity to 'kilall' with little difficulty while maintaining elegant survivability and speed. These super-all-rounder builds typically require theoretically (though not practically, since hackers/dupers exist) impossible-to-acquire equipment (i.e. Enigma and Infinity runewords).

If you wish to acquire these through 'legitimate' means, you'll have your work cut out for you for the next several years.

Practical, legitimate approach to the killall sorceress: dual tree with uncanny and 'wealthy' equipment.

Well right now, occies and skullders are rather cheap. The advantage about a sorceress is that she really is NOT too item dependent. Yes, you need good gear to do well with her HOWEVER the only other character of comparable ease to build is a barbarian because of Immortal King having all of its parts be dirt cheap aside from the armor which may cost you a mal to a gul rune.

Seriously if you can get your hands on a vex rune, you can trade for the entire tal rasha's set.

However, if you really want to accumulate wealth without getting your *** kicked, this is what I recommend you do:

Run mausoleum and crypt nonstop and moat mephisto. Mausoleum and crypt literally drop anything in the game a sorceress would need unless you're looking to build a sorc that can solo the ubers (dual dreams, mass enchant, passion runeword, etc...), at which point you're easily better off with another character like a bowazon or a paladin that can solo uber tristram for much cheaper. (Pally requires vex ohm ist and 2x Lo runes to be effective for grief, fortitude, exile).

infinity light sorc rulez whole game all areas mf takes wealth takes time keep mf get gear make sorc have fun

See the stickied guides. I recommend these for versatile cheap builds.

Blizzard-firewall (use glacial spike as main synergy)
Meteor-Orb
Hydra-Orb

You can run any area in the game with these (except Ubers.)

Use a normal defiance merc. Duriel's Shell is cheap armor for him. I like vampire gave for a helm but Tal's mask is good too and cheap. Lots of different cheap weapons that work. Of course, getting meditation on his weapon is just so nice. :)

IMO Meteorb Sorc full tal + monarch with a well equipped merc (vamp gaz/good armor/tombreaver shaeled) and you are good to go....once in a while you meet a Fire/cold immune but ur merc is there for you ^^. I was using that last ladder...
I am building a pure light to see how it work... but no infinity yet so it rather sucks when i meet immune light.

I would say infinity light sorc is probably the strongest. Though I haven't build one myself, I can only imagine her speed when watching my pure light trapper.

Infinity Charged Bolt/ES Sorceress. IMHO Lightning is a little too slow for pvm.

Dual tree element builds are nice for their versatility, but weak compared to one element sorcs. Sad but true :hanky:

Best way to accumulate wealth is to mf only a little bit, but spend the majority of your time Trading.

I have to say I have played D2 on and off for years, and I still don't think I've found a CoA, Maras, high rune, or even a soj. But through tactful trading I've been able to amass MUCH MUCH more than I've ever found. (And btw I've quit this game 4 times, and given away everything each time. Yet I can still become relatively wealthy within a month or two.) Good luck

a straight-up full-tals meteorb sosa can do all of the above.

I have never seen a weaker toon than a lone 1 ele sorc surraunded by monsters immune to her element ^^
and... what´s exactly your point? Both infinity/lightning and 2-ele are too weak for you. What is your proposition?

I , exactly as you, played "on and off for years" and I DID found soj, 3 hr, several middle runes, several maras (one of them perfect), + 40 life fire skiller (found - not cubed) and much more... Some people like to trade, some others like to play... nothing is wrong - it´s just a game.

A lone element sorc can tele away O_o? But yea infinity/cb/es, read my darn post. Lightning at max shoots at 12 fps, which is unbearably slow for me. Cb can actually hit 8fps and is super easy to aim, and since it requires only 3 skills to max for dmg, you can max ES/tk.

My problem is that i've always found pvm to get too monotonous after awhile, so I value speed over the versatility of killing everything. I build most of my chars towards pvp specs and so I aim for high life, survivability, speed. A infinity sorc will defeat a dual element sorc in all of those categories.

And i'm not ragging on mf'ers, but with the advent of duping. It has become less valuable to find stuff on your own. I'm just saying that for me, the FASTEST way to accumulate wealth is to trade intelligently.
