'Three Way Dance II' - H.C 1.10 Tournament

I'm still looking for a good elite poleaxe class weapon. Finding one with 3 sockets isn't all that easy.

Au contraire, it´s probably the easiest number of sockets to get, but you have to be a little sneaky...

Ogre Axes are the simplest. A normal (white one) gets 3 sockets 2/3 of the time with the socketing recipe (since 3 sockets is the maximum number for Ogre Axes). The drawback is the slow speed and very variable damage of this weapon type.

For the other elite polearms, you should start with a Crude/Cracked one and "fix" it (make it normal) with the "weapon + chippie + Eld rune" recipe. This sets the item level to 1, meaning that the maximum number of sockets for that weapon will become 3, all of a sudden. This is exactly what you want. :) Now you have that favourable 2/3 chance with the socketing recipe, and 100% chance to get 3 sockets if you consult Larzuk.

The same principle can be used to improve your chances to get 3-socketed Phase Blades, Elite armors, etc.

I can´t believe how many times I have explained this little trick on these forums. :uhhuh:
But I will happily continue to do it, as it´s something I figured out myself, after seeing the table over the socketed items and what those "normalling" recipes do.

Good Luck!

I'm sad to bring the news that I'm dropping out of this tournament. I dunno why I just don't feel like playing it. I only made it to the beginnning of act 3 with 2 characters and beginnig of act 2 with the other. I found a total of 4 set/uniques. I'll still be hanging around keeping an eye on peoples progress. Thanks alot to psycho for hosting the tournament yet again and good luck to everyone who's still competing.

The str. requirement on an ogre axe is also much too high for my merc, without changing around the rest of his gear. I'm thinking maybe a thresher. Fastest polearm attack speed and very low str. requirement. Failing that maybe a great poleaxe.

Ormus: Beat Diablo, Starting Act V
Atma: Beat Diablo, Starting Act V
Cain: Beat Diablo, Starting Act V

Total Set/Unique Items: 169

Since my last update I have only played Ormus, and I managed to Complete all of Act 3 and 4... gaining 9 levels in the process going through mostly all on /players 8.

One NDE, but those little undead flayers hurt badly! Met lots of gloams in Act 3, but none in Act 4. Act 3 was pretty simple, just had too kill millions of little flayers.

Mephisto was very easy also dropping only rares that wasn't worth anything. Act 4 was very easy as well, Chaos Santcuary was quite easy too, getting Iron Maidened a couple times. Left seal was simple, Middle seal was pretty easy, and the Venomlords caused a little trouble but not a whole lot. Diablo went down very fast focusing on my bear, had one NDE with him because he set the fire below me then did a Lightning Fury attack right in a row... which is the worst thing he can possibly do to u.

All 3 of my characters are now in Act V NM, ready to get to the conqueror status soon. Good luck all and dont die!

Conqueror Liselle - (Amazon - Jav./Passive) - lvl 76 - Act III Hell
Conqueror Zedar - (Necro – P&B/Curse) - lvl 66 - Act II Hell

Ugh.

It's so slow!

I ran into a lot of problems with the LIs in the Sewers, but since there are so many entrances, I would round up a bunch and then took a different entrance until I finally found the level two entrance. Hurrah! Part three found.

Ah, Tristram. It took an exceptionally long time to kill them off, because those crazy Zealots kept showing up and distracting the Valkyrie.

After those scary adventures, the Durance was a piece of cake. I found the entrances to 2 and 3 very quickly, but the WP took a bit longer.

I parked Bremm with a Decoy and Valkyrie, and then killed Maffer and went for Mephisto. With Charged Strike, he dropped pretty quick, and the Valk only died once. He dropped five blues and crappy rare claws, and now, it's Zedar's turn.

He killed Radamant, having a very easy time compared to Liselle, thanks to Bone Prison protecting him from any and all threats.

I'm 4 acts away from having a TWD legitimate Guardian! :)

Total Set/Unique Items: 173

My First Conqueror! I have defeated baal with Atma at level 66. I started out in Act V NM and went through the act extremely fast. Teleporting hte whole way through pretty much. Everything was simple and there was no NDE's. I decided to do the Ancients on /players 4, and without a merc I defeated them pretty fast with no problems. Killed Baals minions without much trouble... can't really kill lister when hes CI or Extra Fast. Baal of course is always easy for a sorceress. He dropped lots of rares and nothing worth mentioning. Only did one more baal run after that dropping nothing as well. I will continue in Act V until about level 74 or so. Killed Cowking and he dropped a Aldurs Jagged Star.

Ormus: Beat Baal, Leveling up in Act V
Atma: Beat Baal, Leveling up in Act V
Cain: Beat Diablo, Starting Act V

Total Set/Unique Items: 174

My Second Conqueror, beating all of Act V NM on /players 8. Everything was pretty easy except playing the Ancients on /players 8 was a fight that took some time but I was very safe. Once I got too lister I played on /players 1 and beat him and baal.

Baal dropped the usual crap, and I also have killed off the cowking as well. Only green/gold I found with him in Act V was just a Cathans Seal ring, also found a Shael rune. Gonna level up a bit before going to Hell.

Good luck all.

Good job beating Baal at level 62, and going through all of Act 5 on /players 8 and not gaining a single level, wow! Haxor!

j/k, I'm guessing it was really Cain who toasted off the big Baalman, rather than Ormus.

*edit* Sorry, that sounds really smart arsed. A hearty congratulations on the 2 conquerers. That is my only goal in this tourney, is to get my first conquerer.

@Lacerta - Yah, I acciedently put that for Ormus and not for cain. :(

Ormus: Starting Act V
Atma: Defeated Andariel
Cain: Looking for The Malus

Total Set/Unique Items: 182

I found my First Elite Item: Demon Limb (Tyrant Club)

Well, I have played Act I hell with both Cain and Atma since my last update. 10 new points. Before entering Hell with my sorc I put on my mf and did I think 3 baal runs. I found Bartucs Cut Throat one run and then I FOUND ANOTHER BARTUCS THE NEXT RUN. What are the odds of that? Also found Gerkes Sanctuary (Pavise)

Atma went through Act I Hell having lots of trouble with those CI enemys. CL is just not powerful enough. There is no way i can play on any /players x rather than 1 with probably all of my characters. Hell is just a huge setp from normal and nm with all of the immunes and millions of FE bosses. She usually teleported through most of Act I as she wears quite a bit of FCR. Anything that is not CI, I can kill pretty easily of course but dam those CI enemys suck. Andariel dropped all rares and was defeated pretty easily. One more thing: Holy Crap... when The Smith is very fast he runs like LIGHTNING, its crazy, I could barely Teleport and Orb before he wacked me. Countess dropped crap runes.

Cain hasn't got all the way through Act I Hell yet, but things are always pretty safe for him unless im running somewhere when I am in the lead. My merc is pretty strong with a rare 6% LL circlet, rare mesh armor, and a alright Lance. His killing speed isn't too good but it isn't too bad either. I just hate when there is small spaces where only a few of my guys attack... that always sucks. Completed the Den, Blood Raven, Cain, and the Countless. Ready to kill The Smith. Countess dropped crap runes.

A very nice ring I found:

Scintillating Ring of Excellence
Required Level: 59
Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
Item Level: 68
Fingerprint: 0x7dc83e72
+8 to Minimum Damage
All Resistances +15

Destroyer Kadiya - (Amazon - Passive/Bow) - lvl 56 - Act IV NM [49]
Conquerer Haramis - (Sorc - Cold/Light.) - lvl 66 - Act V NM [63]
Destroyer Anigel - (Assassin - Shadow/Trap) - lvl 56 - Act IV NM [49]

That's right, my very first Conquerer, ever!

I made a huge jump in points between today and yesterday. From 125 to 161.
Kadiya and Anigel have both made it through Mephisto, leaving Haramis ready to finish off Nightmare, something I've never quite been able to do in Hardcore. My hopes were high, but I have to say, I expected to die. It was close a few times, mostly when I came up against Moon Lords in Act 5, since they don't get chilled by my orb and they move really fast.

Pretty much all of Act 5 required some really fast reflexes and a lot of teleporting away to safety to survive. And that was on /players 1! Baal and his minions were a nice break after all that. Couple of orbs and everything was dead on each round of minions, and for Baal himself, I set it to /players 3 hoping for a nice drop. He died in under a minute, but he must have willed all his good stuff to Andy, all I got was a Naj's Circlet.

Good finds today include:
My very first Assassin Unique weapon ever: Bartuc's Cut-Throat (its an epidemic today, apparantly) - Can't use it
Raven Frost ring - Sorc is proudly wearing this
Immortal King's Helm - can't use it
2 Dol runes (one from the Hellforge)

I'll probably go back to some more NM Meph runs for a while now. I won't be taking anyone into Hell until everyone is either Dead or Conquerer, at least level 75, and happy with their gear. I expect that happen sometime around Christmas. :uhhuh:

TDT_RagingBeast - (Druid – Shape/Summon) - lvl 34 - Act V Nml Last Quest completed: Shenk

Well, I've made a lot of progress but lost yet another character over the last few days. First, I took my Druid through Act 3. I found a 2-socket Stag Bow in Upper Kurast. I put Zephyr in it and then started playing my Amazon. Unfortunatly, she suffered a death similar to FlamesofIce's, because I got poisoned down to 1 Life and then ran away from a monster pack to open a tp, when a enbalmed snuck up behind me and killed me in the Claw Viper Temple. So... then I played my Druid. I went through Travincal and the Durance, and then killed Meph, who luckily wasn't as hard as Duriel. Then I went through Act 4 easily, and killed Diablo. Oddly, Diablo was the easiest Boss fight yet. Then I moved through the Foothills and killed Shenk. He is nearly unkillable, with nearly 1000 life already, but his killing speed is starting to slow down, because he has AR problems.
Scoring question, how much do the Act 4 quests count for?

Oops, I made a points mistake, and it was too late to edit. It should read like this:

Destroyer Hias – (Necro – Summon/Curses) – lvl 61 – Act IV NM - 49 points
Destroyer Sepp – (Paladin – Combat/Offensive) – lvl 62 – Act IV NM - 49 points

Hias: WP: Pandemonium Fortress - Last Quest: Mephisto
Sepp: WP: Pandemonium Fortress - Last Quest: Mephisto

This weekend I played Hias through Act 2 and 3. My killing speed dropped quite a bit, especially in the later parts of Act 3. Let's see how this goes on. I am now happy with Hias equipment for now. He is wearing +5 to all skills. Not too bad. This gives him 10 skellies, 4 Mages and 7 Revives.
Duriel was a joke for Hias (as always), I used a clay golem and kept the big bug decipified all the time, he was barely able to move. As he was that easy to defeat, he didn't drop any green or gold items, the rares he dropped weren't of any use.
Act 3 went pretty good, I found the entrance to the Flayer Jungle in the Spider Jungle, so I was able to skip the Great March which had gloams (I went in there an got lightning from 4 different directions). In the Durance I had to be carefull, as these undead stygian dolls really can hurt when they explode. The other problem was, that I had to nearly explore the whole Level 2 for the exit to Level 3.
Mephisto took some time to kill, but was never a real threat. The merc needed 2 big purple pots and 4 red ones, so he didn't die. I figured if he dies, it would take me much longer to kill Mephitso without his might aura. Mephitso dropped 2 gold, 1 green item, 2 yellow items (no good) and 1 grand charm that I will use to try and cube myself a skill charm.
I did some gambling with Hias during his fight through Act 2 and 3, but I didn't get any good stuff that was usefull.

Where to put my skill points?

Hi there,

I got a question to all the necro (summon/curse) players out there. I have now maxed skellies and skellie mastery. I have 1 point in every other skill on the two allowed tabs. Now I am wondering where I should spend the remaining points.
I think spending some points in one of the curses would be a good idea. But which one is the most usefull one.

Thanks,

Andi

Here you can find the thread with description of my untwinked Guardian pure summoning necro.

Igor's skill alloc is pretty good. Definately pump those mages, since they'll be very helpful for the PIs in hell without anything from the bone/poison tree. I maxed mages first, and then started putting points into Golem mastery and Clay golem. If you have a definate favorite golem, put some points into him instead of just pumping golem mastery. Also, depending on how much +equip you have putting more in summon resist may or may not be useful because of deminishing returns.

Time for an update with one of the most amazing feats ever. Making it through Act 2 with a summon/curse necro. Not even having CE, and no teleport. The maggot lair was a true test of patience. Nothing exciting, no NDEs... just a lot of patience. Cleopatra and Tokugawa are still chilling in act 1, leveling and mfing, etc.

Conqueror Liselle - (Amazon - Jav./Passive) - lvl 76 - Act IV Hell
Conqueror Zedar - (Necro – P&B/Curse) - lvl 72 - Act IV Hell

Zedar had a pretty easy run through Acts II and III. Bone Prison, really, is a rediculously overpowered skill. At SLvl 27, where he has it now, it costs 1 mana to cast, and it has 3,400+ life!

A basic plan of attack is prison, kill one, and CE the rest into oblivion.

The only place this doesn't work is with Immune to Magic enemies. Fortunately, there aren't many -- but unfortunately, one happens to be the undead resurrectors. Oooh, how I hate them.

The plan for those is to kill the skellies, CE their bodies, prison them, and run around them.... because the ones in Duriel's tomb are Immune to Fire too, so the hireling isn't much help.

Act III was filled with the annoying flayers that made me wish I had teleport so I could prison them and blast my way on somewhere else. It was relatively easy going collecting the eye, brain, and heart, but it took a very, very long time to collect the Flail.

Problem number one was the crazy number of Zealots and, more annoyingly, the blizzard throwing healers. Once again: Oooh, how I hate them.

Due to the crazy number of them all around the Council, I eventually lured them one by one off to the waypoint, prisoned them, and let the magic take care of the rest.

Zedar, interestingly enough, has a Durance 2 map with the WP two rooms (out to the intersection and down) from Durance 3. I'm not sure how much he'll run Mephisto, but... it's an option.

I didn't have any trouble with Bremm, but I prisoned a bunch of Blood Lords and Maffer, and went to work on them when I got a little too trigger happy and Mephisto came flying in.

Eep.

Just then, my prisons expired too.

A mad dash to the portal I'd thrown up, and back to the waypoint!

This time, I took the Wyand side. Blasted him away, collected all the chests (the sadly empty chests), and circled behind Mephisto.

He suffered from the Melee syndrome, and happily tried to poison my prisons. It took a little longer than I expected, but he fell over, screaming in agony, and I collected the Soulstone and four sub-par rares.

Polgara took up the charge, and, let me say, teleport is a beautiful, beautiful skill. I used it when I had too much trouble killing the LI Grotesque type enemies.

I ran into Izual straight away, which was good, and a pack of Gloams, which was bad.

Fortunately, FO made quick work of both.

With a healthy dose of Orb and Teleport, the Gloams didn't stand a chance against me, although there were one or two close calls.

I actually killed all of the enemies on the River, though -- too risky to teleport ahead. There were giant bugs, annoying grotesques, and... hmm... something that died really quickly, and therefore posed no threat to me. (Ah! I remember. Corpse Spitters!)

The hellforge dropped... (come on, class, say it with me:)....

A Lum.

Lum number four, to be precise.

I was actually very sneaky in killing Diablo, as it was late and I was feeling adventurous. I teleported up to the seal rooms, blasted the enemies there, and then blasted the Seal boss.

Repeat this three times for each room, and boom! The sanctuary was empty. I love causing tremendous amounts of death (now only if I got the XP for all that...).

Diablo was a joke, thanks to the fact that he:

1) Targeted my Merc
2) ....with the lightning that starts 2 yards from his body.

Another dramatic death, more crappy, crappy drops, and Polgara stepped into Barbarian Town.

You, by now, know my plan -- Teleport up to the WP at the Tundra, go back, blast Shenk, get quest credit...

And then I stopped questing for the day. I ran up to the Glacial Trail and got that WP, so I'll either save Anya to unlock Pindle, or save the Barbarians to get that annoying quest out of the way.

Yeah, that's my biggest problem. You're probably not going to be able to do a very high /players and still kill CIs thanks to the nextdelay bug. I've been using just normal old lightning (it does 3-1000 damage, hehe) and static to take care of CIs myself, but I usually just park them and go about my business.

If I can manage to break up the enemy pack enough, Chain Lit is great -- but usually I can still manage to toast them pretty quick with Lightning.

Now, the CILI enemies, those really suck.
