Once my sept is over, I'm planning to respec one of the characters of that Sept and maybe have a shot at 99. Druid is one of them, which would probably be a Windy first and a Fissure Druid for the last level, at Nihl. Or straight up Fissure Druid from the start. But that's not what you mean

Cool! I will follow your progress carefully! I have not decided which char/build to take to 99 but wanna do something unusual so fire druid is an option for me

On a serious note though, Gripp has tested it and an AT Fissure druid gets comparable XP/time as a Pitnec and beats out a Pit Windy so it's not actually the craziest idea out there. CRG tested Nihl and it's supposedly viable, so there's a nice bonus too. I'll have to confirm these things with my exact runtimes of course, though I trust their testing/judgment as a general rule.

Sure. I mean, we all have issues doing the 99 challenge but then you want to add more "fun" to it? Sheesh. I may be doing blade fury but at least i'm putting down lightning sentries as well.
I'm not sure either, to be honest. Definitely going to test other options, though they don't look promising.
- Infector is always unbreakable FI, though that's not horrible on /p1 I would imagine.
- Baal is all but out, Lister and co are unbreakable FI. Colenzo too, but that's less of a problem.
So Diablo is probably an option (with a strong merc), and I will definitely test it for the final level for p1/p7 CS running. If efficiency isn't much lower than Nihl I will certainly consider it.
EDIT: Also, considering Nihl has only 33% inherent FR, him being unbreakable immune shouldn't be too frequent of a problem. Only if he spawns FE + either Magic resistant or Spectral Hit. I didn't mind him spawning unbreakable CI with Eleanor, and she would have had a much higher rate of it due to his innate 70% CR.
With all that in mind, I didn't die running Nihl with Eleanor. With Oak/BO there should be more than enough life floating around, I would imagine about double what Eleanor had. Either way, that decision is a looooong way off (and there's a good chance I won't be making it at all), so that will be a bridge I cross when I get there.

I'm running Nihl with a Fire Sorc. Unbreakable FI Nihl doesn't happen much. It shouldn't be a problem at all. And I agree with you: Nihl actually isn't that dangerous once you know what you are doing, and with Oak also around, you should have plenty of hit points.
It shouldn't make a difference. It's just a matter of the other unit lifting up the Last Collide property of the Viper poison cloud missiles, enabling the missiles to go back and forth between the two of you dealing far more damage. It doesn't matter if there is only one unit (merc) close to you or more. The only difference is that, with more units around, there's more chance that one of them is close to you. But I tried it out with a Necro with a Golem, and it wasn't a problem.
@Yng - What @T72on1 said. Although I wouldn't bring a Grizzly along, just Oak. I found with Eleanor that the merc isn't much of an issue since he moves away to engage the monsters so quickly. The Oak does travel around more without engaging monsters though, so that could be an issue. I suppose just paying attention to him and recasting him further away if needed could be an option.
Along those lines I could just cast the Grizzly right on top of Nihl in between Fissures, and that should negate his danger too. Though I doubt his presence would speed up runs at all anyways.

Another tale of Diablo being Diablo:
Just before entering the Halls yesterday, I figured: "this looks just about the time to start trading magic finding for extra survivability".
The game then proceeded to drop two pieces of Orphan's Call (belt and gloves), Headstriker, Peasant Crown, Maelstrom and Mavina's belt before I could reach Nihlathak.

Just hit 89 and decided to poke my head out of AT. Originally my plan was to wait until I had a nice Eth base for an Insight, but running AT was getting a little old. I braved the rest of Act 2 and had some nice drop action with Duriel
Next I cursed my way through the jungle to LK. So far the guide to 99 had not let me down, so I figured I would try a few LK runs.
On ~run 20 Vex dropped. Probably not a big deal to some of you, but my first one ever so was pretty cool.
This is where I will stay for awhile farming runes. I have a good two campfire map and a good AT map if I get bored.
