Those two characters party, the level 1 waits in town, the level 25 kills baal, both characters receive the baal quest and can go to NM. The level 1 can go back to Normal at anytime after he is level 20 to complete the ancient quest for experience.

I'm pretty sure this isn't possible. You can't take a town portal into the WSK without killing ancients.
Maybe in previous versions...

In 1.07 it's possible. You can kill ancients at any level and you can skip ancients and go straight for Baal (in MP games).

also his post points out that you don't need to be there for the baal quest. The host just needs to get the quest while partied with the player stuck in town

Was finally getting some focus back and getting ready to proceed with the necro. Then summer landed. Far too hot to play. Only played like 2 or 3 hrs in total over the last 2 weeks. Still it's enough for Raising_dead to move up to 8th place. It should've been 7th by now, but someone has been slacking in finishing their 99 effort :whistling: (yes i'm looking at you Helvete ;)).

Oh, I actually finished a couple weeks ago, but the first few weeks after my vacation have been quite tiresome and quite busy =)

I'll make a 99 thread as soon as I can actually find the energy to do it.

A bit into 98 now so I'm adding myself to the table. Goal is 5 mil a day.

Build, if anyone's curious, is just a standard hammerdin running CS. I kind of wanted to run Nihl as a telesmiter for at least part of the level, and he did indeed kill him really fast, but I opted against it because the drops in the CS are just so awesome compared to everything else.

Reached 3.330. Too lazy to update the table. I've done far more than 5 mil/day, with a record of 15 mil yesterday, but that pace isn't sustainable for a number of reasons.

Usually for me that feeling is early on when there's barely any white on the exp bar. When you're that far i'm already feeling like the end is nearing. Although never at the speed you'd like it to. ;)

3,380,052,305. Looks like I'm past 50%.

Rolled a new CtA, in a crystal sword this time, and manage to improve BO by 1 level to 5, and put a Ber in the helmet. The guy probably has his final gear now, which is more or less identical to Corrupted's 99. The main upgrade right now would be a very high dex ring with 30% fire res. Strength doesn't offer anything because I'm already at base strength + 5.

Well i never got to lvl 99, but 89 was my absolute highest lvl ever and that still took too long lol; even for a hdin. I guess the real challenge would be to try to get to lvl 99 solo on single player legitimately...

A bit into 98 now so I'm adding myself to the table. Goal is 5 mil a day.

Build, if anyone's curious, is just a standard hammerdin running CS. I kind of wanted to run Nihl as a telesmiter for at least part of the level, and he did indeed kill him really fast, but I opted against it because the drops in the CS are just so awesome compared to everything else.

Dang Jeffy!!! Your insanely patient with all those hell baal runs lol!! Please give me some tips as to how you dealt with the boredom to get all the way to lvl 98 when I couldn't even make it to 90 before getting sick of my highest lvl awhile ago!

You make sure you can play the character safely in your sleep, then get a lot of beer and a few good audio books =)

...at least that's how I did it.

New computer, so now D2 has been on three of my computers. Cut run time by 20 percent (loading dropped dramatically as did play time). Wife is done with bar studying and running season is done, so now I have time to bang this out. Goal is 2-3M/day, which is about 40-60 minutes. I'll get there by 2014 (my excel spreadsheet shows ~71 hours left).

I've always wanted to make a run at this, and finally found the build that I'd like to try it with. I got pretty lucky early on in my hunt for a good map, but I'm wondering if my map is "good enough", or just "good."

Considering I'm almost level 90 right now, I'm looking at another ~5500 Baal runs. If I can knock 1 second off per run with a better map, that's equal to roughly 1.5 hours overall, and I'm not sure if I can expect to hunt down a better map in only 1.5 hours. But if it's reasonable to expect to knock 5+ seconds off per run with a better map, that's more like 7-8 hours saved overall, and therefore hunting for a great map would be more worthwhile.

Some details:
- the sorceress in the screenshot isn't the character making the runs. I want to keep my runner secret for now as a motivation ploy, since it's not anything close to the Hammers/Blizz(ball)/Lightning build that dominates the 99'ers list already (though he is pretty cookie-cutter-ish). I used the -seed command to give my old rushing sorc my runners map just so I could get the screenshots without revealing anything significant about my actual build.

- my actual runner does not have teleport, but does have about 60 FRW and the skills to avoid/bypass swarms. So he's a little slow-footed for getting to the throne room, but not horrible. Once I'm confident he can survive a really tough spawn with ease (so far so good, but my one Fanaticism-aura Lister spawn didn't have other tough mods), I might be able to switch away from a few of my lesser +life charms for a few Inertia charms and push his FRW up nearer 85-100.


So what do you think? Keep hunting for a better map, or call it good and get to work?

Get to work. If you're anything like me, you'll get bored and reroll, or play after a few ales and click "Nightmare" rather than "Hell".

I'm about to add a char to the list of runners - he's an almost lvl90 hammerdin (I fear not the cheese, but I will be respeccing him shortly into a melee char- at the absolute lastest by lvl95) .

Currently running The Pits, looking for items, and dong it at /p5 as it doesn't slow me down too much. Just think of every cliche'd hammerdin and you've got what I'm doing.

Onwards!
