"The Moo Moo King Must Die" Tournament

Well, I've pushed my Bowler Druid through A2 NM on P5, and killed Duriel on P1. Pretty tough playing! After having done that, I'm more impressed with what Diablo Loves Donutz and IronCrown have accomplished.

Donutz and IronCrown: What did you guys do with Lister and the Minions? Any tips for the rest of us on equipment or play style for the Cow Level or for the last few acts of NM?

Okay, so thanks for that note. I too have been hoping Hexfire or Todesfall Flamme would drop - but none of my amulets, class-specific helms, or equipment of any kind has a +X to skills or druid skills, or molten boulder skill. I've been unlucky with my equipment drops - just a Magefist with a +1 to Fire Skills, giving me a lvl 21 MB with 19 pts in FS and 6 in Volcano.
 
Well for Lister and Baal, you have to go /players1. I remember doing them on /players8 in normal and they just kept healing, so I didn't even bother with /players8 on them in NM. But yea, unfortunately you know as well as I do that they don't get knocked back. I ran through lots of tps and merc res's killing em. I pretty much had my merc and bear and other summons distract em while I spammed boulders. Even though people disregard some of the summons like vines, pets, etc, they can become really helpful because any distraction helps you. With Baal, I sort of did the same thing. Don't ignore your minions after they die. Half of my time spent on baal was resing minions, but again, it helps out alot when baal is focused on someone beside yourself.

And cows?...I'm going to be honest...THAT IS HARD AS ****!!! I was forutnate with having my portal being right by the area where the king is, but I ran into a HUGE mob of cows. Yes, MB rolls through them, but with /players8, it can take a while. Surprisingly though, the king was not too hard if I recall.

Oh, and my final gear was a leaf staff, magies, sweet 1 druid skill/life/mf/strg ammy,nagel ring, nice mana boost ring, sig belt, mf/frw boots, and a 2soc 1MB helm that I made a lore out of. Oh, and I just felt like putting this out here. I had probably around 20 or 30 pgems in the end. And before cows, I was rolling a gc I found somewhere in a5 and a cold skiller popped lol. I had to laugh at that.

But other than that, good luck, and I hope you give the king a good thrashing :)
 
Donutz! How's the Trangs?

For everyone's information. I forgot to voiced up that i offer my 1.09 Trangs as prize for this tournament..
 
My gameplan was more or less the same. Act4&5 I did solely on /P1 with the only exeption Pindle runs on wich I lvl'd, but even with him it was quite tough and I couldnt manage efficient runs on anything higher than /P6.

As for Lister and the boys, I had no problems. When they spwan, make sure you whole party stands a little back and cast your spirit in their midst. Being immune to physical in NM it tanks the whole pack without a problem (exept for Lister) and they seem drawn to it like the simple minded creatures they are. I isolated Lister with my bear and after he went down, me and the merc wittled the pack down around the spirit at our leisure. Not even once did I have to spend a potion on the merc.

Baal was the biggest fight in TentPens career. When I started fighting him I had NO money left and could not afford a merc death. It is as Donuts said, cast those minions. Everything you have, he must be distracted at all costs. My ravens were my stars here because they cannot be attacked, but yeah the fight took me close to an hour!

NM cows = SLOW. I left my merc dead and let the bear tank. He did practically no damage but took huge beatings and allowed me to do my thing.

Gearwise, only a leaf staff and +2MB pelt. Didnt even find anything else use full and with resists as bad as mine (10/19/-2/16) I suspect half my Baal problems came from there.(It didnt help that the throne area spawned Black Souls with my lightning resists on -2).

OnlyStrikes picked his lazy butt up off of the rock he was resting upon, and resumed his quest. Investments in synergies started kept Molten Boulder a dedent weapon, until we ran into monsters that don't get knocked back. That really sucks. The bear is doing his best to tank, but he just gets overwhelmed. I'm thinking I need to revise the strategy a bit, and get an Act 2 merc. Someone to take some heat from Ursa Majoris, anyway. I got a great chest drop from the Abaddon chest...Rattlecage gothic plate and a Duskedeep helm. No +skills, but a good equipment upgrade to say the least. Nothing really to report otherwise, just kept plodding along. When in the Ancient's Way, the /players setting went down to 3, to try and speed things up a bit. Ancients were handled at /p1, and the WSK was pretty easy. Baal's throne room? Ouch! Seems like nothing got knocked back, Blood Lords everywhere. /Players 1 was entered and it remained there. Keeping the bear in front of Lister was key, that and a great deal of running like a little girl. Baal succombed after 15 minutes of encouragement, and OnlyStrikes is now a Slayer. Not sure it is well-deserved, but a title nonetheless. We're ready to take on the cows!

As an aside, I want to gripe for one second. People abound who complain about the AI of the mercs, but I found a worse one. This is my first Druid...what is up with that Oak Sage? Is there any dumber AI in the game? I'm a good reader, so I researched and determined that this thing is supposed to increase the life of me and my team. Why then is it the first into the fray? I checked, it has no AR and deals no damage. But there it is, slugging it out with a Blood Lord as if it were the second coming of Rocky Balboa. I almost heard that song, at least until my Oak Sage, meant to increase the life of me and my team, went toes up after two good Frenzy swings. I left the little guy to push up daisies from then on. I can't see how it's even worth using.

rofl... I must say that I always enjoy your accounts along this journey.

I don't use Oak, because of the fact that it likes to wander into the fray. HOW gives attack rating and damage bonuses, and when(not if) it dies at least your life doesnt depend on it. In a big fight I usually make sure that after everyone is engaged I just cast it, even if it is not dead, behind a wall where it will happily stay out of the way.

I finally had time to play a little bit & got through Baal & his minions (at /p1). The Ancients weren't as bad as I thought they would be. Lister & his pack were definately the hardest to take out. I'll do normal cows & see how far I can get in NM when I get another chance.

OnlyStrikes felt a hankering for some fresh meat. Yes, the carnivore in him was coming out, and what better way to satisfy said craving than with a good old-fashioned barbeque? He cubed Wirt's leg and a TP tome with much excitement, and stood transfixed in front of the secret portal. No better time than the present. Shouting his warcry of "Where's the beef?" he, his grizzly, and his trusty rogue plunged through the Cow Level Entrance.

Where's the beef, indeed. A free buffet line at a Jenny Craig convention never contained this many cows. The bardiche wielding cattle were everywhere, swinging their mighty weapons with nothing but malice in their black hearts. Fortunately they were susceptible to the knockback on the boulders, which now came flying (err, yeah right, more like crawling) their way. Soon the air was rife with the sound of flame-broiled bovine, and OnlyStrikes had his pick of fresh delmonico's. He was never in real danger, though his minions got skewered quite frequently. The knockback on the Cleglaw's gloves came in very handy, as well, so that space was kept between himself and the frenzied herd.

Now sated, his journey into nightmare difficulty began. No problem at all clearing the Den of Evil, and he moved into the Cold Plains. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the armpits of all Fallen Shamans. These boulders crawl much to slow to actually get to them, and they resurrect their minions so quickly it's a real pain trying to get close. It's a constant game of running away to draw them out, then circle back to hunt down the Shaman's. Meh. Wanting no part of Blood Raven and her minion nonsense, he moved into the Stony field, found the waypoint, and called it a day. Or a weekend. Whatever, we'll see when we have time to revisit his quest again.

As an aside, I bow in humble obeisance to IronCrown and Donutz. How you were able to move so far so quickly with nothing more than these boulders is beyond me. :thumbsup: Nice work!

You're our first Awler to make it to Moo-Moo land, so you're trying something that no one else has yet tried.

Did you try the "run and make a TP Portal" trick? Is it impossible to kill the cows?
 
I made it through Act 1 NM (/p5) without much trouble, just a lot of repairing my wands. Almost all points have been in vitatlity, so my life is around 2200 w/ maxed BO. I haven't had much luck finding items, I'm still wearing Berzerker's armor & helm.

It's the first time I'm actually getting some use out of Grim Ward. When I come accross a boss & minions, I kill one, cast Ward, & can then take out the boss without interruptions. It also helps my rogue since she seems to stay close to it & fires her arrows.

After a looong rest, Johnny continued his trip. He killed andy and dury with a bit of troubles, had to restart game to get down to p2.I'm gonna kill mpehisto soon, and my a5 merc is doing just fine with his eth bloodletter

Made a little bit of progress in A3 NM with my Bowler Druid. Playing on P5 and have brought him to Upper Kurast. Molten Boulder is only at lvl 22 with 20 points in FS and 10 points in Volcano. Its a bit of a struggle especially the large monsters that are not knocked back.
 
Diablo has fallen, so the next time I post I will either be dead or be standing over the King's dead body. I have taken it down to just /p1 to speed things up. I'm thinking about doing some Countess runs to get runes for Peace so I'll have a Valk for a tank other than myself.

Uh.... yeah, I loved this tourney, kinda forgot to update though. Bowler is a work in progress but still fun, But the pally was just a blast to play kinda struggled a bit on baal's minions but my merc had a decent enough weapon and I was a coward and kept running till they died.

All three character ideas looked fun, but I don't have an Awl, and many Bowlers look to have done rather well, so I thought I'd try a drummer. He's been taking things fairly slowly on p8 and looks set to hit Level 19 before facing Andariel.

For weapons I haven't been able to do better than superior yew wands with gems in, so my merc has mostly killed almost as much as I have.

I've been looking to go for Frenzy in the end, so have put enough points in double-swing to take the mana cost down to zero, for the damage synergy. Though if most of my damage ends up being elemental, this may prove an error ... ah well, it will increase my leeching at least.

My killing rate recently went up lots with the acquisition of a Grand Charm of Venom, and a 2-socket hat with a +9 max damage jewel and a +20 poison damage over 4 seconds one.

No deaths yet (yes, I'm a wimp playing SC).

Just wanted to say that I'm enjoying this a lot.
