You are allowed to use a merc until you reach the level were you can summon, so you could use it up until 18, then get it kill and summon shadow warrior.

I know, just wasn't sure until wakiki posted the rule change. Since Kaiko is progressing so quickly I won't bother to revive the merc (hope I wont regret that decision...). Kaiko's little BoD (Buckler of Deflecting) is keeping her quite safe :smug:

Ulquiorra-san blasted his way through Act 1 at Players 7 performing full clears. There really weren’t many obstacles (and it was really easy compared to Act 1 of the Merc Tournament :grin: ). The biggest obstacles were elemental enchanted monsters (mostly LE’s). The only thing that resembled a near death was due to getting hit by the death blast (bolts) from an unseen lightning enchanted unique in the Catacombs (not too much damage was done but that same scenario could easily become deadly as the monsters get stronger :\ ).

Ulquiorra opted to go the merc route and made good use of Aliza (cold arrow merc) after defeating Blood Raven. Aliza probably ended up doing most of the killing while Ulquiorra did the cursing and occasional clubbing (using a superior scepter of chipped sapphire and ruby). This ‘strategy’ really didn’t change until the Barracks when Ulquiorra hit level 18 and started using Bone Spear (sparingly due to chronic mana shortages). By the battle against Andariel, Ulquiorra had hit level 20 and therefore had a level 3 bone spear . . . that turned out to be more than enough to defeat the demon without a close call or merc death.

The drops at Andariel were not very good considering that Ulquiorra was using Players 7 and had 31 mf and Aliza had another 45 mf (okay, not outstanding, but seemed as though it should have been good enough for one set/unique item). Happily there had been some decent finds elsewhere. The first (and thus far only) set item for Ulquiorra came in the Black Marsh (I love Arctic Furs)! Ulquiorra’s first (and thus far only) unique item came in the Catacombs (off a somewhat scary fanatic ghoul) . . . happily it too was pretty useful. The Countess was done at Players 1 in hopes of better rune drops . . . it didn’t work . . . oh well, Act 2 has always been good for runes . . .

Here were Ulquiorra-san’s stats at the end of Act 1.

Nice progress those who have started playing :thumbup:

So far I`m quite impressed with this tourney - all of a sudden I`m playing a completely different game - my last guardian completed Hell with 10k life, now its like - oh God, I actually have to pay attention! Thats what I get for not playing a tourney character for quite some time:whistling:

But so far so good - EatMyBones has found enough bones to feed all the monsters instead of letting them eat his own and will now rest in Lut Gholein.

The first uniques with some elemental enchantments (just like HanShotFirst I`ve found these to be the most dangerous) that EMB met made me understand that there is no need to make harder what is supposed to be impossible anyways and instead of going single tree I`ve also dropped a point in Dim Vision (most likely to be pumped further when (/if) I finish maxing my main skills). All of the death frost novas from uniques that hit me took about half of my hp - I seriously have to do something about EMB`s resistances or it wont end good.

I`ve been more lucky at rising my MF than actually finding S/U - two gem shrines early on was more than I was hoping to find, and later something I was expecting even less - the only S/U through entire act (other than from Andy) - a Gull.

So what you get for killing andy with 237% MF? Gloves with 40hp&30 FHR! Definitely something worth wearing, although I like to stick to MF early on.

The gameplay is pretty simple so far - EatMyBones enjoyed his early days as a melee necro with a gemmed 2-handed axe and (just like Han once again) switched to Bone Spear @ lvl 18. This is my first boner and so far I love him - messing with those bone walls can be really fun and refreshing at times

Wow nermind, that's an awesome start dude! I usually find about 1 set and .5 uniques for every Act I Normal clear, so trust me, finding the two best uniques you can possibly find is very good for S/U's. The Gull will pay off bigtime.

BathtubPancake cleared up through the Stony Field but left Coldcrow and her pack for later. I'm going to kill her once I have MF gloves, boots, and full topaz slots. (I always do this to increase my chances at getting a Gull.) I spent 40k at level 12 gambling for MF gloves and boots but didn't get a thing. :\ I've gotten two topazes so far, which is nice.

Given the requirements, my Titan Berserker Druid would have been a perfect choice except, since it's untwinked, I doubt I'd be able to make a Passion Thunder Maul and since it's 1.12 I doubt I'd be able to make a beta CTA, so it seemed a little unlikely to work. Plus, I already have a really cool Druid Pat but my classiest Barb pat is a Wolfie. Enter DeathtoCurtains (he wanted to be named after the tournament, but he dun here too gud), a Titan Berserker Barb. I don't expect him to make it too far, but it'd be cool if he did.

With this character choice, you have no idea how excited I am to reach those narrow, undead-laden corridors in act 2. (Still not starting for awhile, but I wanted to have the char in the table already).

Well, Blade is now at the Cold Plains WP and will stay there for a week until I get back to using this computer. No challenges so far, perhaps the first few bosspacks of the Cold Plains will prove to be more difficult.

This looks like a challenge! I love playing chargadin's for some reason, although i don't think a melee build has much chance in this tourney, but you never know, so enter Inevitable. (which no doubt his death will be)

Well, Mouse made it to Dark Wood, currently level 12. Made one stupid mistake, but luckily it didn't cost me a death. I really don't like Coldcrow, but with the golem I thought I should be fine, he will act as a meat shield. Took the posse down, then worked on her standing behind the golem. I was so worried about steering clear of her freezing me with her arrows, I forgot about her CE explosion upon death. I was in melee, so she took me down to a little under 1/2 life. That would have been a pathetic death, LOL.

Hey folks, I'd like to be seeing that table less. I'll post it in the thread every 40 posts or so, and I'll update it in the rules post more often than that. Just post character summaries at the end of your progress updates. People creating a new character can update the table and add themselves though.

BathtubPancake cleared the outside all the way to the Outer Cloister waypoint, which he grabbed without fighting any monsters. He still has fighting to do in the Forgotten Tower, Hole, Pit, and the Cloister itself.

I gambled 10% gloves and boots very quickly (I'd estimate in the Passage/Dark Wood). Just goes to show how luck can turn around. I've also been getting topazes consistently, with 5 in use and one sitting in the stash in cash of a shrine.

Charge is such a cool skill. I had to build a Chargadin after I read SSoG's excellent guide. Even though I only have enough mana for 4 charges, I can already feel the power of this skill. And it's weird, too. Like no other skill in the game. I used it a little to take out this scary pack. No, those aren't champions, that's two Lancer bosses: one mana burn and one cold enchanted. I couldn't tank and zeal that pack (89 health) but I could charge hit-and-run while my rogue peppered them with arrows.

Next I'll do the Forgotten Tower. SSoG's guide doesn't talk about using Charge in contrsicted areas. I'm guessing it's very difficult or impractical. We'll see (I have Zeal at level three anyway).

The GlassCannon is alive and well, just found the Dark Wood WP, and is headed back to the Stony Field with the Infuss scroll under her arm. If her faithful merc Paige only knew that she will be stripped and killed off when her employer reaches 18th level, maybe she wouldn't be so faithful... Working mainly with dual-claws and blade sentinel, GC has had few problems. The only NDE was in the Cave against a pack of CE archers who, oddly enough, were not headed by Coldcrow. Coldcrow herself presented no difficulties. At 13th level GC's current stats are Str 46, Dex 46, Vit 20, Ene 34...and all resists are at 0.

I don´t like the name of this tournament ('Low-lifes' would have been better, IMO) but I like the rules. Seems like many other do as well.

One interesting thing is that, because the characters have so little life in the early part of the game (and for a long time, too) there may be some parts of the game that will act like "hurdles" and actually be harder than the late game (where you have scraped together some great gear).

Yep i certainly see normal Duriel as very big hurdle for a tourney like this. Especially for some characters who have either summons or main damaging skills at level 30.

I actually think Duriel might cause deeds to Oliver...if i make it that far :\.

Edit: I think i just jinxed myself . Was on the final trek towards Andariel, we just entered the Cathedral and were met by not one....but two boss packs of Wraiths (one of which was extra strong, didn't get a chance to see 2nd pack). Lets just say my 110 life pool dropped in a heart beat .

I'm hoping to enter this at some point. I was in the No Vitality tournament, but got tired of D2 before completing the character (whether by guardian or death). I'm currently working on one character for the sept tournament, but once that one dies or guardians, I'm hoping to make the next character conform to this tournament rules as well!

Lots of free time at the moment so Amarantine has cleared the sewers,lost city, ancient tunnels at p8 and the rest up to entering the palace at p1. Haseen working hard, dropped a nice 1-40 damage bardiche with 93% damage and extra ar to undead which is proving handy. Charms are dropping steadily still getting an 8 life large and several elemental damage ones.Cubed an eth but nothing higher dropped so far as runes are concerned.

Keen to get to the tombs where there's a chance of getting a maidens javelin to drop before facing Duriel. Block rate is ok but I've got the gold for some bone shields of deflecting if they will help. Should make level 24 before entering arcane sanctuary where decoy will help redirect lightning towers and fireballs and unsettle the summoner.

Just finished finished Act 1 with my BFSin Kaiko. No scary moments thanks to max block and my unkillable level 1 shadow warrior. Andy went down quick and easy when she eventually stopped chasing me and attacked the shadow warrior

Max Life is 98 with a 10 life large charm and no other boni from equipment.
Only S/U was Arctic Furs (have about 85% mf). Got over 200k gold for gambling, but I don't know yet what to get...
After reading the "blade fury analysis" thread I may also have to rethink my skill planning.

I have decided to re-enter with a Sorc named Sibella. I am undecided how i will build her. Possibly cold/fire varient, we shall see.

Hopefully she has better luck than Oliver and can avenge his death!

PS. I updated the table and replaced Oliver with Sibella (considering i never even got a chance to write an progress report for Oliver ).

PSS. I am very delighted to see this tournament start off so well with so many participants! Hopefully it can reach the level of success the No Vital Tourney did! I am looking forward to playing and following/reading everyone elses journey. This shall be a very interesting tourney indeed!
