The Build Your Own Tournament!

I'll add my contribution to the lot.

Enter Guldlock (Swedish for Goldielocks) the Amazon (surprise, surprise...) with the following rules to make it more interesting:

1. Softcore until first death. I've never mat'ed a character so it's high time.
2. Must wear black armor always. And not just Amazon medium armor but skull black.
3. May not use any specialised magic finding equipment. Some of it is OK on the standard gear but she may not don suits bristling with topazes when slaying bosses and such.
4. After this introduction, I may not write anything about her progress. Pictures only.

Lastly, my other Amazons have been more or less good. Guldlock, though, is eeeviiilll...

@Maltatai I'm sure I'll follow the updates of your Impalazon. I love the concept of shady characters in D2.

As to my own progress, Yuan the gold-finding Blade Fury Assassin and Mizan the Blessed Aim merc are currently level 33 and waiting at the entrance to the River of Flame. I'll write an update at the end of Normal difficulty.

I've been toying with an idea for this for a long time, so I figured this would be a good place to try it. Introducing the Lord of the Dead Tournament:

The Lord of the Dead

General Rules
1. HC - While the Lord of the Dead does not often dwell among the mortal, his material form is not immortal
2. You can re-enter the tourney with a different character as many times as you like.
3. NOT single pass - rerun as much as you like. The Lord of the Dead finds great pleasure in repeatedly killing the same poor souls
4. FAM allowed, ATMA/GoMule allowed only as extended stash. You should probably start a new stash dedicated to your tourney character, and don't use it for anything else.
5. Any /players settings are allowed, and you can change it as you like.
6. You don't have to complete all quests or get all waypoints.
7. No MP. This is the SPF, after all.
8. Any version that includes LoD.
9. No twinking or trading allowed. You can't mule anything onto your character, except stuff in your extended stash that your character previously found/bought/gambled and muled to the stash.
10. Respec is not allowed. The Lord of the Dead is very old and set in his ways

Tournament Specific Rules

Necromancer only

Allowed Skills:

The Lord of the Dead my only use skills which amplify his control over mortality and death

Curses:
Decrepify; This curse gives the victim a glimpse of his own mortality
Life Tap; This skill allows the Necromancer to literally suck the life from his victims

Poison and Bone Skills:
Bone Armor; This spell summons a barrier created from the bones of fallen warriors
Corpse Explosion; Every corpse created as a result of a violent death carries with it the anguish of its final moments
Bone Wall; This spell enables the Necromancer to call upon the remnants of the spirits of all the creatures who have ever died in the area
Poison Explosion; This spell permits the Necromancer to accelerate the decomposition of a corpse to an alarming degree
Bone Spear: Also known as the Talon of Trang'Oul, this spell summons a long shaft of bone issuing forth from the caster and piercing any opponents in its path
Bone Prison; Similar to the Bone Wall, a Necromancer with this skill can summon a spirit wall of bone in the form of an enclosing ring
Bone Spirit; his powerful spell briefly summons the spirit of a vengeful revenant

Summoning Skills:
All skills allowed except Clay Golem, Golem Mastery, Iron Golem, and Fire Golem. Blood Golem is allowed because the Blood Golem is powered by the casters own mortality

Items:

The Lord of the Dead is only allowed to wear items which exmplify his own being; death and mortality. The only base weapons available to The Lord of the Dead are the scythe, great scythe, war scythe, battle scythe, thresher, and giant thresher. There are, however, two exceptions. The "Death" runeword may be used, and Boneshade Lich Wand. If Boneshade Lich Wand is used, the Lord of the Dead may only use shields crafted from the corpses of his enemies; Bone Shield, Grim Sield, and Troll Nest. Any rarity of these items is allowed
Helmet: Similar to the shield, The Lord of the Dead may only equip the skulls of his fallen enemies; Bone Helm, Grim Helm, Bone Visage. Exceptions: Undead Crown
Chest Armour: Only armour which is black in color may be used. This includes any magic, rare or unique item that has a black color (Corpsemourn for example). Exceptions: Boneflesh Plate Mail, any Boneweave
For non-vanity items (jewelry, gloves, belts, boots), there are no item restrictions. Any charms and socket fillers may be used

Nathaniel, my character from the Sword of Destiny tournament rules, is retired at level 53, Act 3 NM (Lower Kurast). He found Soulflay as his SoD early. Especially with Hell LK running with 99ers, I was not looking forward to running more LK for charms and runes to make late NM reasonable for this guy (much less Hell). So he wasn't going to get played anytime soon!

But he was my vehicle to rebuild a 2H fanazealot to wield eDeath Colossus Sword and run some Hell Council. With RFL Round 2 coming up, I wanted him to get some hours. Nowhere near competitive with other runners (especially because he will be low level), but I thought that would be a reasonable break from Sorc and let Nathaniel start getting some levels. So I am going to play him through Hell Anya quest twinked to the gills over the next couple days :)

Good luck to other participants!

Yuan and Mizan have finished Normal difficulty. She is using level 10 Blade Fury with a rare claw, which kills reasonably fast at /p8, as well as a Strength runeword for bosses.

Gold finding equipment (475% GF total) includes an Artisan's Great Helm with a GF jewel, a plain GF amulet, a Rhyme shield, rare gloves and boots with GF, a plain GF ring and a perfect one with 30% cold resist, and a Plated Belt with additional 27% Fire Resistance.

Armor is 3x Topaz for both her and the merc. As required by the rules, 10 charm spaces are occupied by charms with GF. No useful secondary mods in the charms except 5% Cold Resistance.

The best find so far is an ethereal "The Impaler" unique War Spear from WS K, which greatly improved Mizan's killing speed.

Largest gold pile came from Nihlathak (11,142).

Here is a breakdown of the randomly assigned skills:

3 - Claw Mastery
5 - Fire Blast (deterministic)
DoE - Claw Mastery
7 - Fire Blast
9 - Fire Blast
11 - Psychic Hammer
13 - Wake of Fire
15 - Cloak of Shadows
17 - Blade Sentinel
19 - Burst of Speed
Radament - Fade
21 - Burst of Speed
23 - Weapon Block
25 - Fade
27 - PHammer
29 - Shadow Warrior
31 - Claw Mastery
Izual - 2x Tiger Strike (duh)
33 - Venom
35 - Fade
37 - Burst of Speed
39 - Weapon Block
41 - Weapon Block
43 - Burst of Speed
45 - Cloak of Shadows
47 - Venom

Yuan the gold finding Furysin and Mizan the Blessed Aim merc, level 47, Normal Cow level next

I've been away from D2 for several weeks, and finally picked back up with Hades last night. I'm lvl 26, just finished Arcane Sanctuary

The premise is to use only what the monsters supply to vanquish Baal.

1. Only equipment dropped from enemies may be used.
- Nothing from poppables, shopping, or gambling
- Exceptions: scrolls/pots may be bought from vendors, gold-lettered quest items are also exempt for obvious reasons

2. Allowed skills:
- Revive
- Iron Golem (made only from supplies dropped by enemies)
- 1 pt CE, 1 pt all curses
Ronin rounded up 7 nasty beasts in the Ancient's Way and made his way quickly up on the summit to take on the Ancient's. We took them on at /p1 due to our groups lack luster damage output and it wasn't too much of an effort in the end.

The throne room wasn't too much trouble making it through Baal's waves of minions since Ronin could keep all Summons active with the previous wave. Entered the battle with Baal with most of the Summoned monsters timing out pretty quickly.

We had to TP out and grab some Urdars from the River of Flame just before the waypoint. They did much better dropping Baal and his eventual summoned clone quickly enough. We held on to the rare sword to make another IG with and put the set shield on switch for the added MF.

Nightmare is certainly going to be challenging I'm afraid.

Ronin and Razan, Level 44, Act 1 (NM)

Go Ronin! Is he allowed to build up passive skills? I'm thinking as he will otherwise have a lot of points left in late nightmare, and the termin...hrm, iron golem will be in trouble without mastery and a little resistance.

Have you tried out terror? It looks like it should be good even with only one point, and does not suffer from the duration penalty in hell as I understand it. I haven't used it much myself but if you can send select monsters fleeing and have the others remain it opens up some very precise crowd control which would seem to go well with an iron golem, especially if it has open wounds.

Thanks! He is difficult to play, however never a dull moment. Yes he is allowed to buff synergies, however he will never cast those skills if it's even possible. I suppose I could specify that in my rather short rule set.
Edit: Yes I have used Terror somewhat, I find it somewhat unpredictable compared to Confuse and Attract. Right now I am primarily using level +6 Confuse for most the normal packs of creatures, gained from my wand and head bonuses.
