The Apprentice Program for Scavengers - Tournament

Well I finished off Duriel had a lot of close calls and went threw a lot of town portals.

All threw A2 I was not finding anything I even wanted to keep and was just hoping for a good drop from Duriel. Here are the Items that fell and this is what I ended up keeping.

Well, this is what happened.

First, I went to the River of Flame WP. Then I had to go from there to the Diablo area on P1. That resulted in very little experience gain and nothing was picked up along the way (usual rules for reentering the game and getting to where you left off). Then, after killing everything except the gang headed by "The Infector of Souls", I changed to P7 and activated the crucial seals that released IOS. This time he was fire immune and poison immune. No problem, he died in about 4 minutes without killing either shadow warrior or the merc.

Of course, that released Diablo. He was not a very difficult kill. Oh, it took about ten minutes and I finally gave up going back for the merc unless I was forced to. I was forced to go back twice when Diablo caged Scavasin in Bones and the only easy way out was to cast a portal. Once I was back at the fortress, I decided I might as well bring the merc back with me. He never lasted too long. The shadow warrior also died often, but she is easy to recall. When Diablo died, he left behind the unique Military Axe (Warlord's Trust). No use for the game, but it was only the second one of those I have ever found, so I took it out of the game and put it in my Grail2 file.

As for her souvenir, Scavasin had the following choices:

A Lore helm made from a bone helm.
A 2 socketed Grim shield that could become "Rhyme" with Shael Eth and then worn by the merc.
A nice rare chain mail with +defence based on character level. It could then be upgraded and used by the merc.
A magic Basinet that could have been crafted into a hit power helm for the merc.

Since the Lore Helm was the only item that Scavasin could use herself, that became the souvenir for NM Act 4. I really want to save the merc gear until later to take advantage of their 3 point value and the high multipliers for the late acts. Now all that I have left to souvenir are Scavasin's ring and gloves, along with all four of the merc items.

Thrull has killed meph and is sitting in the Pandemonium Fortress. Act 3 was easy (read boring) with all those critters in the forest. All I had to do after I found an extra fast flail was to zeal my way through it with Holy Freeze.

I did found a Nokozan relic in the swampy pit level 2 which ended as my act 3 souvenir. I hope this Fire resist will help me to zeal my way. :rolleyes:

NotMyRound met his end in the Stony Tomb.

He got trapped in a corner by some skeletons, and as the Horadric Ancient (or whatever it's called) kept ressurecting skeletons. First the naked merc fell and then, having chugged all his potions, NotMyRound was "promoted to glory".

I'm a bit disappointed I didn't even see Duriel, much less die in the CS.

Act 2 was a catastrophe: only two SU items: Isenhart's helm, and The Gnasher unique hand axe (which, if I'd had a Sol, I might've actually upgraded for the CB and OW). In the end, I kept a three-socketed lance for my merc, which I will turn into a Malice weapon.

It took over a half-hour to kill Duriel, and 32 trips to town. Over $300K spent on merc resurrections in the battle. Luckily I had an inventory full of expensive wands and so on, so I'm back up to over 500K gold for act 3. And I'll start off this act with a merc weapon, too, which means the early going won't be too rough... between merc and grizzly, I can sit back some until items start to drop.

Looks fun.

A few close-calls already, but Steve has passed Act1 -.-"

I wasn't quite sure what to do with skills... The choice for me was between Raven, Poison Creeper and Oak Sage. I ended up choosing Raven for the blind (survivability) and meager attack damage (offense). I figured that unlike Poison Creeper, it'd remain partially useful all the way into Hell difficulty. I used the Den of Evil reward to grab a point of Poison Creeper, which I'm hoping will at least eliminate monster heal later on (and in Act 1 it helped with crowds).

Worried that I wouldn't get enough experience on /players1, I did full clears until I got to the Outer Cloister, at which point I realized that a crapload of points in Raven isn't completely desirable and if I got to Act 2 in a hurry I might be able to put some of these easy points into a more worthy skill. I still leveled 3 times on my way to Andariel.

Andy went down without too much fuss. I just ran circles around her and let my Ravens poke at her for a while, and she fell.

I didn't really get anything I'd consider worthy as a souvenir, unfortunately. I ended up choosing my imbue as the souvenir. I suppose it could've been worse.

My last update went unnoticed because I and EJB posted almost at the same. Anyway, i've completed act 3 now. I wanted to get level 2 MB at most, so I had to skip some areas. Mephisto went down easily. Seems this character wont be having problems with bosses.

Im doing quite well in the scoring department so far. All my souvenirs were worth 1 point, maybe this will give me some advantage later.
 
Scavasin was traveling the Glacial Trail after killing Nihilthak. She decided to go down into that cavern in hopes of finding something interesting. As it turned out, she found her deeds screen. Nothing spectacular, just an evil urn that tempted her to touch it. The resulting group of Succubi were nothing special, but carelessness resulted in getting too close to the boss when she exploded in death. Scavasin traveled that grim road with her.:sad2:

Now, Scavasin has provided a target for all scavangers. I suppose Skunkbelly will pass her soon, but my next attempt will be on her trail too. Not sure yet what it will be though.

Sorry to hear of your demise Wolron. Good effort to get that far though.

I am entering a sorc. Steptoe's first skill is Ice Blast. My first free point was Warmth. My plan is to go Glacial Spike for Act 2 then Blizzard for act 3 (assuming I get that far).

It feels wierd to drop stuff on the ground rather than sell it but I am sure I'll get more used to it. Money is really tight at the moment as I haven't sold any gems yet and hope I can avoid doing that.

Hi this is my first post as you all can see, and just for the records I’m really horrible on wrinting in English thou I understand everything that you guys write. I never play a tournament but I have been a Diablo 2 player since ever, so I hope to really enjoy this. I’m going to make a Druid and Maldrec first skill going to be poison creeper.

Thrull has defeated Big D and is waiting in Harrogath. Im still doing full clear and I had no close call yet. Hellforge grant me a Tal rune and I have no use for that yet maybe an Ancient pledge if I ever find a good pally shield :rolleyes:

Wolron, sorry to hear about your deeds. You've set the bar rather high, though... I doubt Wereskunk will catch you, but I'll probably play a second character in this one as well, so we'll see.
 
Scavazon will be a fire Bowazon with a real powerful Valkyrie. Her Act 1 skill will be Fire Arrow. After that, she will probably work on Exploding arrow. Then it will be time to begin working on the Valkyrie by going after a decoy. I sure hope she can find a good bow. Since she intends to have a bow in each hand, resistances will be a problem (as usual).
 
The adventures of Maldrac

Maldrac has finally triumphed over the demons that for shot time has rules over the sisters of the rogue. Was really easy at the beginning with my Might poison creeper destroying all the demons and undead who dare to compete with my strength, now there body’s cover all the places from cold place as far as catacombs. Me and creep complete destroy all the demons that cross our rode and we really have some fun times, like the time that we just laugh of Blood Raven faces like she didn’t get how a little vine could make such damage on her, hehehe Good times. Them as a reward a female join our group, sweat reward because I was feeling some bit lonely (if you know what I mean), but unfortunately we didn’t get along she just was horrified by my face of happiness while I crushed the cranium of that nasty fallen near the sacred stones who was really hurting me with that fu***** lighting.

After that we save a old guy name Cain, a funny guy a little “I-know-everything-about” but he was nice and we make some really good arrangement whem he was locked on that gage, I could for free use all his identifies scrolls, I believe that was a good deal. Soon we were on some really big tower to get rid of some crazy woman that was on there, ouh about crazy woman’s (I was just getting nuts with that rogue woman, she was all the times telling that I should be more quite when entering the rooms, and that I should be more polite with the persons, she was getting me really tired I have to stopped creep to kill her teo times, he was even more sick of her he begins to say “Man she is destroying our style, man” I knew he was right but I was trying to get some actions with her. Well in conclusion during the night in the dark woods I make my move she refused and them the party was only two again. :smiley: )

With the real party back again we just run through all the way to face once and for all Andariel. I was with some ok items (A rare helmet that gives me 2 oak sage and 2 spirit wolfs, and a club with nice damage) but I already has some really good item a special rare ring. Finally we come to Andariel rooms and began the fight, she was hard that we assume, wolfs and oak sage do not even stood a change against her, they fall at her first mover. So was gonna be just the original team against her, creep did fine nice damaged good evasion I could see in Andariel´s eyes the frustration on trying to hit that little thing, She was upset and resolves to put all her frustration on me, dam that poison really hearts I run I little to let creep deals with her, but she refuses to late me getting out, my hearth began to beat faster and faster my legs was shaking due to the poison effect, all my plans was down I should now think and act faster if I want to stay alive. Wolfs on the way, they distract her given me the time to get a blessed antidote that was lost on the flour the poison stop running in to my veins (read 6 of life), I drink them a healing potion and engage on fight again, she was just dying. She didn’t accept but after the little surprise we were kicking her butt. I was imagining that glorious visage that she was wearing on my head, the powerful gloves that I could that.

Cursed Demon, she begins to laugh on my face, I could not accepted that, my club stay heavier and her body softer, them she say the cursed words always smiling at me : “From this place you should not earn a unique nether a set … ” I fall on hurry to kill her the fastest way possible, i was so scary of the result of thouse words, yet she continues “… not a rare too, you should only get from here norm…” I smashed her mouth while creep makes his last jump on her throat. She was finally down, as my hope to get some good items, her cursed words seems to work, cause I only found a magical sword and other regular items.:sad2:

Now it’s time to go to Lut Golhein, but I refuse to take that bund of junk with me only one item I should take, one precious item, I pass my hand in my club and fell hot yet form Andariel and that nasty fallen blood’s, my helmet who has saved me many time from the arrows of the demons. But the item that I took is a ring a special ring that I take from that bloodiest body of that Rogue that was annoying me all the time. That special, my special ring, my precioussssssss!!! (lol :laughing: )

My next toon is a sorceress focusing on the lightning branch. AmIDeadYet started Act I focusing on Charge Bolt. Hopefully, she will make it a little farther then her distant cousin Sally.

Scavazon has killed Andariel and moved on to Lut Gholein. She found nothing worth keeping in Act 1. Thus, her souvenir is a magic amulet with +13 magic find. For a while, it will be useful in improving her chances to find something in Act 2. Then, in the early parts of NM (if she lives that long) she plans to cube it with 6 perfect gems to get a prismatic amulet. The resistance will be useful at that time.

She has put 15 points in Fire Arrow and hopes to put about 8 points in Exploding Arrow as she moves through Act 2. She did a full clear in Act1 and plans to do the same in Act 2. These two skills will be useful for a while, and then will be important synergies for immolation arrow. Acts 3,4 and 5 will be spent developing her VAlkyrie. Decoy first, then Evade in Act 4, finally the real thing in Act 5. Her other skills will be immolation arrow, pierce and penetrate and this is probably the order in which they will be addressed.

Baal is dead :rolleyes: Act 5 was very easy and with full clear, Thrull has leveled 14 more times. I even forgot to lower the player setting for the Ancient. I did find a Sol and 2 thul rune in act 5 wich will hopefully give me some opportunity for NM. But for now Im undecided for my souvenir as I still got my socket quest to fill:

@ Gahzban: I think I'd go with the belt, myself. You can't gamble without a score penalty, so gambling for a better belt isn't probably going to work... so Bladebuckle is a great option. Plus, it's very easy for a paladin to find a shield that will give good resistances... that rare has no redeeming qualities other than the resistances, and you can do much better.

As for your socketing quest... if you play other characters who are twinked, why not just pull in an item from one of your ATMA stashes, use the quest reward on it, and then put it away again? No sense wasting your hard-earned quest reward on the shield, unless you intend to actually use the shield as your souvenir.
