For Grief, the damage bonus from the +damage modifier does not show up on your screen.

Also, do realize that a LOT of your damage does come not only from the numerical damage you're doing, but also Crushing Blow, Open Wounds, Venom, and whatnot.

None in particular. I used to use the same setup and it worked splendid.
If you find that you have trouble with the low 5% CtC Life Tap, you can look for a Life Tap charged item (I think Ormus or Drognan in Hell carries them often, but don't quote me on this one).

I also had a 15ias/15resist jewel in my Guillaume's Face, but that's definitely optional.

What I dont get in the guide is that it has two complete different setups (like the CB setup and the +dam setup). Im trying to get the gear for a smiter so do i need to get gear for both setups or only one ?

One or the other.
I think most people will find the +Dam setup is easier to obtain, but it comes down to personal preference when it comes to gameplay.

I just did my first uber run (with my 1 point smiter)the other day. The only point that I ran into trouble was with Lilith. I didn't clear out the room before I went after her and died once as a result.

Then Trist was a walk in the park. Took down Meph really fast (20 secs max). Then lured out Baal, he was gone quick as well (20 secs max as well). Then I went in for Diablo, this took about 30 - 40 seconds as I was surrounded by pit lords.

My set up was as follows.
Shako with IAS jewel.
Sanctuary Shield with 107 resist.
Stone Armor
Credendem
Mara's
Raven Frost
Rare ring, LL STR and resists
Grief PB
Grac's
Gore Riders.
fhr , resist and life charms

With this set up I was able to reach.
a) 86% FHR break point
b) Max smite speed
c) Stacked 300 resists
d) 1800 base life (before BO)

I did not have to prebuff with fade nor did I need to use santuary aura at the cost of fana for meph. Even with 5% chance to cast life tap with dracs, life tap was not a issue (I did not have to use a life tap wand), but then maybe I got lucky this time. I just went in and took them all down. I have to be honest, with only 15% CB, I was supprised at how fast the run was. Tonight I am going to try with my LW PB and see how that measures up (79% CB total and 15% ctc life tap total with current set up)!

Unfortunantly, I ended up with a 12/12 barb torch. I was hoping for a pally of course.

Running with this Pally was really fast compared to uber runs with my fishymancer.
 
Lilith's minions can be a total pain.
Once I ran into two unique witches in the same room as Lilith, one spawning with Fanaticism and both spawned with multiple shot.

Ok. Another question XP, my friend made a smiter (not a 1pt one though) and he's saying use exile instead of sanctuary (I'm going by very last one (rich) +Damage setup) so what's better? I'm thinking stay with the sanctuary because of resist but unsure.
 
It depends whether or not you have the resists to counteract Meph's Conviction (-125 resists I think). So if you have your resists stacked enough without using Sanctuary, by all means, use Exile. You might opt to use Sanctuary instead though so you can use Fanatacism without losing max resist under Conviction... or you might just choose to use Exile and run Salvation.

It all depends. If you can pull it off (resist-wise), run Exile for the extra Life Tap source. But it's certainly not the end of the world if you use Sanctuary for resists.
 
you can always use marrowalk or a lifetap wand to cast lifetap... after which you only need dracs or lw to keep lifetap going. imo exile is overkill. you dont need the defense either, cept for pvm.

an um'd (72 res) or pdiamond (69 res) hoz will give you more dmg, res and block %. no problem with using sanctuary though if you need res, the damage loss isnt much and its block % is even better than hoz when u factor in its +20 dex.
 
Yeah I'm -3 all res (without torch or a second ring (have raven frost/mid res anni)) at the moment and have 10.5k defense (with holy shield cast) so yeah.

I seem to be fine casting lifetap in general pvm. My health though is 750 (w/out BO and still like 50 stat points left) which without resistance sucks against glooms.
 
What's your setup right now? Like gear-wise? It would help if you told us that and we could point out the easiest places to make improvments

You have 180 resists once you get your Sanctuary. With Anya (if you die, it'll bug, so rejoin to unbug that), and an Um in the Guillaume's, that's 225. After Meph's Conviction then, you're looking at 5 resist all, which is sort of low... so you'll definitely want to either pick up a bunch of resist charms or just run Salvation while killing Meph.

Damage won't be a problem, and neither will staying alive once Life Tap triggers. One thing to consider is Chains of Honor over Fortitude, for the extra 30some resist, and then some charms, which will allow you to stay with Fanatacism on Meph.

The only real reason to use Exile, imo, is if you really need the Life Tap chance. And a good Exile in a 45 res all shield is pretty expensive, more so than is necessary really. The added defense is minimal, most of the stuff that hurts is from spells.
