The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

This build rocks totally :)
first i made a Hammerdin. got him lvl 92. he has hoto38, zaka, arach, anni, +2 skills rare amu, guardian, and shako, so thats alot of skills i thought.
He made 9,7k dmg.
so i thought he could take some of the lesser ubers atleast. so i opened to lilith. and he died so much..
So then i seached for a new build. and found this one. :) now i use your "favorite" +dmg setup :) which defently is mine too. at lvl 85 he rocked lilith, duriel and izual in less than 10 minutes :) and ubers in less than 5 after that.
he rocks totally :) thyx for the build :)

I have something similar to this build. No autorenewing source of lifetap, but my brother just ran around with his harmony zon and hit the ubers with a lifetap wand every 15 seconds or so.

19/20 sorc torch. wheee!

I hope to find dracs sometime soon so that I can do it on my own. I almost have all the keys again....

i want to give major props to the OP because i found my first pally torch after 4 extremely successful and easy runs (thanks to this guide). My pall torch is 16/16 and pretty damn good in my book. =) this is my set up, ive done 5 uber runs (including organ bosses) and only died to uber meph twice because i forgot to put on salvation. doh! 1 run was to help bobo from the trade forums get his perfect assassin torch.

Setup
Lvl 84
helm = guiliems (um'd)
ammy = highlord (for the 20% ias to reach 4fps zeal with fant)
weapon 1 = ebotdz 400% (if i was ladder i would have made grief, but i use ebotdz because its 1/14 of the price of grief)
shield 1 = eth vortex exile, 30 resists lvl 16 defiance =)
weapon 2 = 3bo cta
shield 2 = lidless (im non ladder)
armor = archon coh (resists > enhanced dmg IMHO)
gloves = dracs
belt = tgod
ring 1 = raven frost 245/19
ring 2 = switch it up with dwarf/wisp 16absorb/ and a rare 20str/10dex/cold resist 25/90ar (i am lacking in cold resist)
boots = gores
charms = anni 16/16/9. life/resist scs. ar/mod charms of all sizes. 12%fhr gc and a few 3% sc with mods. 2-62 light dmg/40def sc. 3x100 psdsc. cube. as of now i have the pally torch on this char and i use 2 comps and have my hammerdin waiting in town to pick up any new torches since he doesnt need a torch.

Skill Tree 95 total skills used. (1 skill point unused at lvl 84)
20 zeal
20 sacrifice
20 fanat
20 hs
1 smite
1 vengence (PI killer)
1 charge
1 holy bolt
1 blessed hammer
1 salvation
1 prayer
1 cleansing
1 defiance (think i wasted this pt by accident, considering i dont have vigor and dont plan on getting it)
1 in each resist aura (adds to vengence dmg and adds passive Max Resist with a few more points as i level)

a few questions about vengence and passive resist auras.
1) how many points in resist fire would i need to get the passive boost in my max resists? and any plus skills does not effect this?
2) vengence reads: fire, lightning and cold damage are added
to each successful attack. does that mean it works like the druid skill, feral rage? meaning, if i use vengence first, then zeal... does my zeal now have added vengence elemental dmg? my first guess is no. but i'm usually wrong about things like this.
3) should i put the remaining 10 points i plan on getting into defiance? BA? or the resist auras?
4) i dont have a merc yet. i dont know which merc to get. a holy freeze merc would help me when surrounded by minions, but i have a feeling a merc will stand no chance in uber trist. or should i get a BA merc, and put points in defiance. or a def merc and put points in BA for passive ar boost.

sorry if this was a long post, but any help would be appreciated. thanks

1.) For the passive bonus, each 2 HARD points into a resist skill will yield a 1 pt increase to the maximum resist. So 20 points into resist lit will give you a +10 to the maximum always, and a +20 to maximum when the aura is active. +skills do not help this.

2.) No, it does not work like feral rage. (unforutanely, because that would rock PI's)

3.) This depends on your gear and what you need.

4.) I like the holy freeze and might mercs for PvM. Don't expect any of them to live through Uber Trist.

Actually 1pt in defiance is recommended, not wasted at all.

Yeah, every paladin I've ever played has had a point into prayer, cleansing, defiance, vigor, and salvation. Sometimes I can forget that people don't have to get those at all.

phoenix?

I realize that this guide was "for the poor" - but... it has gone all over the place... so I'm asking anyway.

I searched this massive encylopedia long thread to find if anyone thought of using Phoenix as the sheild. Was thinking that the fire storm migh calm any enemies attacking from behind? Never been there, am I crazy to think this? with 40% trigger, it'd have to be triggering a lot I'd imagine. +50 life never hurt either.

Additionally - don't people throw missiles? would the missile defense not help?

Am I missing something?

for convenience, here is phoenix shield:

Shields
100% Chance To Cast level 40 Blaze When You Level-up
40% Chance To Cast Level 22 Firestorm On Striking
Level 10-15 Redemption Aura When Equipped (varies)
+350-400 Defense Vs. Missile (varies)
+350-400% Enhanced Damage (varies)
-28% To Enemy Fire Resistance
+50 To Life
+5% To Maximum Lightning Resist
+10% To Maximum Fire Resist
+15-21 Fire Absorb (varies)

I don't imagine Firestorm would do that much, but the maximum lightning/fire resist should help quite nicely, but you'll have to have a crapload of resist all charms to make up for the resists you'd lose using that shield instead of something like up'd HoZ with pdiamond, "sanctuary" elite pally shield, or a 4 pdiamond elite pally shield.

If you use grief ,uped or non uped hoz is irrelevant. If you don't use grief, the higher smite damage of uped hoz will provide a bit more raw smite damage/leech but don't expect huge difference, the build won't break there. As for phoenix,it will boost raw damage of both zeal and smite. Other than that I don't see it as useful in tristram. I admit it is possibly the only shield I haven't tried in there.

Thx!

Have to say thanks for this guide!

I completed my first successful uber run yesterday - when me and my friend tried it first time we screwed killing Mephisto.

My palas equipment:

Kiras 15iasjwl
The Rising Sun
Stone 1,9kdef
Gris shield 3pdia
Stormlash
Draculs
Ravenfrost
Dual leech 6mana/8life
Tgods <- didn't have this on the first try, which made the difference
Gores

We kinda screwed on this run also for my friend used a LF-java first and I didn't dare to tell him not to use it (I'm not the guy who likes to boss people around and I was little curious what a java could do in Tristram). So when I was smiting diablo he decided to do this massive LF-sentry in to the pack of minions and diablo. I laughed, I laughed hard cause my PC just couldnt take it (my screen was entirely filled of LF-bolts) and I got connection interrupted. It's weird how i found it funny but I knew we could make it though Tristram was full of minions. The reason was that we had prisoned Meph in the house (kinda lucky though it usually causes problems) so he could be nowhere near to use his conviction on us. I rejoined, went to Tristram, dodged the minions and killed Baal and Diablo.

Then we lured Mephisto out of the house and had a bit of a problem: my attack speed was too slow with salvation on and I didn't get healed fast enough with lifetap, but without salvation Meph one-hit-ko'd me. Then I decided to ask my friend to give his Tgods from LFzon to me and that made it too easy.

I have to note that The Rising Sun was actually quite a bit of help because those pitlords healed me all the time. I tested this after Meph was dead by standing in a pack of minions without doing anything and my hp dropped very little and healed back to full very fast.

We got a necro torch with 20 to attributes, 19res and 8 to light radius.

It sure was fun!

After quite a few trist runs since the beginning of the month I've honed a system that's been working really well for me when I'm solo.

1. Whip on the Lightsaber (just personal preferance, for the lit absorb.)
2. Put on Salvation
3. When I go through the portal, I walk straight up and to the left, to the house Gillian would be at if it were Diablo I. I then walk down a tad bit until Mephisto appears on my screen and rushes up.
4. Lead Meph away and pound him down with smite and salvation.
5. Turn off salvation and turn on fanaticism. Go back to the portal, go down to the end of the last house and then edge up to the area where Griswold used to stand. As soon as Baal's in the corner of my screen, I start moving away and he teleports after me. I go straight down to the river so his little wave beam won't knock me back.
6. Pound Baal to death with smite and fanaticism.
7. Go right into the middle of town and show Diablo a good time.
8. Grab torch and offer Cain illicit services to identify a good one.

I'm actually building it for Last Wish. I know, it's expensive - but it takes care of so many things - CB, TWICE the life tap chance AND level of drac's. But i see what you're saying about the dmg - that would render the LT bonus useless. ugh. Guess I need to find a hoz that isn't already socketed with an um. lol. Or make sanctuary. I'll post my build when it's done.

I dont consider the points in defiance wasted, passive bonus to your holy shield defense. I have about 10 pts in defiance now, should i invest in smite now ? (all other necessary skills are maxed) lvl 83 now

For me, smite is a 1 or 20 skill. Especially for pvm more than 1 pt is a total waste imo, minimal damage increase. Get utility auras better, like salvation, vigor, redemtpion etc.

I just got back on this game after being gone for a long time, My im missing something but when you mean tgods for belt you mean thundergods right?

Isnt that belt for amazon's why would you use it for this?

I've got this build and despite the complete overpoweredness of grief (yes, Dryland, I know) it works extremely well and I'm very happy with it.

This is what I'm using:

LW Phase
HoZ: upped/um
Gore Rider (upped)
Dracs (might, someday, Steelrend here, but its not a priority for me)
Verdungo's Hearty Cord (I dont use tgods because the spam holy bolts fighting mephisto lag my computer too bad :()
Fortitude
Highlord's Wrath
Ravenfrost (230/20 for me, whee)
Rare AR/ML ring, str/dex here are great if you can find one. ML is for zealing with mostly, saves your blues for only Baal mana burn.

My helm is presently rockstopper for lack of, uh, you know, the CoA. The optimal helm would be a 2os Coa: BER and a 40 ED jewel with another mod (maybe -15% req if you dont want to go upped gores or Rends :))

A 12 DR CoA with 1 Ber, Verdungo's and LW's fade will put me at 45% PDR (I have a 38/14 dungo), resists are more than fine and meph's conviction doesnt even impact me when fade is up. I have a 362% ED LW with 67% CB.

Switch, of course, is CTA/Spirit.

With this setup I have 40% Open Wounds, over 50% and increasing Deadly Strike, 82% Crushing blow, a base zeal damage of 2400-2800 with Fanaticism and smite damage around 1500ish. I know Grief damage exceeds this notably, but I have absolutely no problems with anything unless I lag so bad that I can't get namelock on Mephisto or Baal in frameskip due to their minion packs (which is my computer sucking, not my equipment).

I have about 2100 life with BO at level 86, and my str is noticably higher htan it needs to be - having the upped hoz, upped gores already and a Fortitude Boneweave I made when my char had insanely high str/dex (he was my first char), I chose to rebuild him with relatively high str to wear that gear and not need new EQ (and to wear the CoA without a -req jewel). I also intentionally built him without using the Hellfire Torch, though he does use a 13/19/9 annihilus to help his resistances.

It is ironic that CoA aside this build is probably actually cheaper on East ladder than Dryland's build at this point - premade Griefs with damage of 375+ cost as much as Last wish (4-5 HR), Exile costs alot more than HOZ in most cases, and Highlords costs less than Metalgrid. However if you're building the build yourself and use the HoZ, Dryland's build's still got cheaper equipment (but only by a very little bit).

This is in no way knocking your guide, btw, KDL: its the best mix of effectiveness, cheapness and playability. I know you'll remind me how good Grief is - trust me, I know, I've got one. Its just really nice to be able to do without it, honestly, its so overpowered it bugs me a little :)

I've considered at times switching to Grief/Exile on my weaponswap and substituting Metalgrid and guilliame's, having a full 100% CB all the time, and using weaponswap after CB goes through 2/3 of uber hp to finish with exile/grief. However, that's more work than necessary and the sliver finishes aren't really very difficult for me anyway. The only time I've died ubering since my very first attempt at Tristram was when my entire computer seized due to Fortitude and Thundergods spamming me too much when I had about 40 bone mages firing at me while killing Mephisto. My computer really sucks :)

Last wish is an awesome weapon vs ubers. It is mentioned in the end,I just didn't feel the need to add a setup for it. As for "knocking my guide", note this:
"My" build is just a fanatic zealot, that actually does the obvious, which is leave smite at one point and use it with efficiency. It isn't mine, I didn't invent this, nor I claim any fame whatsoever. It is just a text to help people that want to run the ubers, and I'm glad because so many have found it helpful. Furthermore, I mention various setups, because many items can be used with the same outcome : success. I don't recommend "Grief only" anywhere, (I use stormlash nl) , so I have absolutely no reason to feel "threatened" by last wish. I encourage people to use whatever they find better of more fun, since it is just a game after all. And there is absolutely nothing wrong about Last wish anyway,I myself consider it the second best weapon for ubers. Your input is most welcome, really.

To the economy;I don't know about premade griefs of 375+ damage omn east. I just know that since it is just a Lo Mal runeword, the cost to make it will always be 1 or 2 hr (depends on realm, mal is 8 times cheaper than high runes on europe ladder),right? Since even the lowest grief is perfect for the job,why buy one and not make? Or buy a crappy one, even,if it costs less than 2xhr...

Yeah I agree, yours is definately budget. I just wanted to head off any kind of arguing and I notice thats happened a couple times. I love this guide, every time I play diablo I want a zealot. I finally made a really cool one and ..

It just saddens me theres nothing to do with it except uber. I built it around actually playing it, but besides ubering I honestly can't find anything tod o with it that isnt 15 times faster or less annoying with another character.

That part stiill saddens me :(

Edited random funny: We're reaching the point where the weapon used to make Grief is almost as expensive as the runes in it, on East. 5os zerkers and phases are up to um now and they keep going up and up and up.

I hate our economy ;)
