The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

Namelock refers to your holding down the mouse button that your smite attack is on once you've gotten the initial smite, so you don't have to keep your mouse on the uber himself all the time. This is especially helpful for Baal, when he teleports and you need to run after him - saves you the trouble of finding him, and also saves you the trouble of accidentally killing his clone (if you're not good at telling them apart).

The 300%ed on Fort does indeed apply to Smite, btw.

I see, so this is different from a stun lock then. Does the smite's stun not work on bosses/ubers? How is there hit recovery time?

Yes, I see that you are correct. Ed% on your weapon doesn't affect smite, but ed% from other sources (fortitude armor) does. Good to know. This should really make a Grief/Fortitude combination godly for smiting.

I also didn't think that smite could apply crushing blow (not sure where I got that idea from). But here it is straight from battle.net:

Smite can steal life with life tap cursed on target.
Smite can also deal crushing blow and open wounds damage, but not deadly strike and elemental damages

I guess there would be no purpose in doing a "normal" attack against the ubers; smite is faster and still triggers everything you need.

i followed the guide and it was a breeze through the mini uber bosses but i'm having a hell of a time in uber trist...any suggestions? .. im using the "gear for the rich" except for the shiled with is a zodded eth hoz lol...its like i hit meph a few times and then imdead =/

wuts your res and def? also do you use sanctuary aura when fightin meph? make sure you spawn 1 uber at a time.

res is around like 60 (?) with mephs aura

yeah i shld use sanctuary lol

and i didnt know they spawned seperately? i jus walked in and had all 3 of em on my arse

my first uber so yeah. ill figure it out! lol thanks

I come in from the left side and draw mephisto towards the house over there, if necessary all the way over to the river - this will invariably ensure you dont have to deal with baal or diablo yet.

Then I loop down past where Wirt would be and come at Baal from where Griswold spawns in regular tristram, and draw him down there. Then I take Diablo near the fountain.

It has yet to go wrong for me.

Thanks for the great guide.

I'd just like to bring out one armor alternative which I've been using on my trist smiter/zealot, and it works very well: Gloom (Fal + Um + Pul). I chose this over CoH and Forti, even though I can afford both.

15% Chance To Cast Level 3 Dim Vision When Struck
+10% Faster Hit Recovery
+200-260% Enhanced Defense (varies)
+10 To Strength
All Resistances +45
Half Freeze Duration
5% Damage Taken Goes To Mana
-3 To Light Radius

The Dim Vision helps keep the minions off my back, although Life Tap overrides it pretty often. The resistances are between Fort and CoH, and the DTM means I don't need to chug mana pots even when hit with mana burn.

The rest of my equipment is pretty standard, with switches for mini-ubers & Diablo+Baal:

Grief
Gris shield (3 pdia) / Stormshield (with -15req/29 light res jwl)
Guillaume's (Ort)
TGod's / Verdungo
Dracs
Gores
Metalgrid
Raven
ml/res all/str/ar ring

Stash full of res/life/fhr/ar charms. Stacked res enough to have 75/75/90/75 with Meph's conviction on (90 res with TGod's + 10 points in Res Lightning for passive bonus). Battle Orders + Shout from my dedicated BO barbarian -> ~4.8k life, ~28k defense.

You know, that's a good point. And because dim vision doesn't work on bosses, you wont be in any danger of life tap being canceled out where needed.

lol i went into trist with full resis and all that but meph was STUCK INSIDE A BUILDING GUARDED BY DIABLO

i was like dammit

ya so like if i kill the minions first they respawn liike 2 x as fast but if i charge diablo, the minions and meph is shooting at me and my lifetap cant go off lol

well i got a lame 11/10 ztorch from that -.-

i dunno why the setup didnt work

i had

drac
guil
gore
CoH
grief
44 resis eth exile
dungos
raven
some mana leech rare ring
high lords

i still died like 10 times thou

I think the hardest runs are when Mephisto is stuck inside that house, because that means you have to dispatch of the other two first, while his conviction is still active (and destroying your resists, if you haven't stacked them). I always try and kill Mephisto first, so when he gets in that house it's a real pain, and I have to draw Baal and Diablo to the corners of the map so Mephisto's Conviction doesn't affect me while I try to dispatch of Baal and Diablo. Huge packs of mages shooting at you while you're trying to smite the other two bosses is most definitely not fun.

I used to think my WarCry barb was a Bad A#$,...

Which, he is in his own right. IMO level 41 Warcries(shout and Bo) Along with a massive defense bonus from concentrate are pretty respectable.... BUT!

This build makes him seem like a pansy by comparison. Just finished the base build, level 82 and I must say that he is now my favorite character by far. He can solo any part of hell with ease(except for maybe chaos sanc, and worldstone when doom knights are present) and with the gear I have on his life leech is so massive that as long as I'm hitting something, I seem almost invulnerable. I love it!! Thanks so much for putting this guide together, it's clear cut, comprehensive, and makes the hardest area in the game a breeze. Here's the gear I'm sporting.

Guillames, dracs, and gores as recommended..
Archon CoH(tried arch fort, but found I like the CoH better. Don't need an inventory stuffed to the brim w/ resist charms)
HoZ shield, of average quality socketed w/ Pdiamond
String of Ears belt
Grief PB
Seraph's Hymn(not optimal I know, but I love the damage and AR bonus)
P RavenFrost ring
and Nature's Peace
Pally torch
Cta and Pally spirit on switch

between the high life leech, insane attack speed, massive damage, and not to mention cool look, I'd have to say that this char dwarfs by far any other I've built up to this point.

Did my first Solo UberTrist runs today with ease. I died once from mephy's conviction aura cause I forgot to activate salvation, but after that it was smooth sailing. (Word of advice: when you enter the portal and spawn mephy, just zeal the hell out of a few minions before engaging him, I did this to activate life tap before I ever laid a finger on meph. Worked wonders)

I never thought I'd be able to stand right between diablo, Baal, and countless pitlords and barely break a sweat, but this build almost makes it too easy. Thanks again!

Most people just get a lifetap wand for the initial lifetap. They're easy to find after a few runs in and out of town, expecially if you spawn a mini uber portal near Malah.

Beef, that's what I've been trying to figure out myself too. I'm thinking if you can MF the keys yourself (with a MF sorc or Hammerdin maybe) it could be pretty profitable. 3 Keysets go for 3 PUL's, that's a little cheaper than 1 organ set = HR = 4 Pul.

Anime, Yes I realize an equipment change will be required, but that's simpler than building a second fanatic zealot paly. I'm trying to find a good all around build. I'm kinda turned off by the limited MF ability in a fanatic zealot. Do you think there's anything better (more flexable) than a Hammerdin (with an equipement change) to MF and run uber trist?

Wraith, what is "name lock"? I've been assuming it's the same as "stun lock". On that note, does stun work on ubers? Even if it doesn't, I'm guessing it will still send them through a hit recovery animation. I'm just hopeing their hit recovery is slower than my smite speed (6 frames).

Normal attacks simply don't do the job, with or without crushing blow. The ubers regenerate health far too quickly. You smite them from beginning to end, rendering them useless and unable to anything besides stand there and get raped. The open wounds helps slow down the process, and crushing blow helps amplify the damage. But the effectiveness of the build lies in the nature of smite itself, stunning the enemy. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Kindryland congratulations on the guide, i just finished mine with the high end gear you said is advisable. This pally is a real B@da$$. Btw Lord! rulez.

To everyone here, the low budget items work too, dont worry, my last on was oath/duress and kicked uber *** too. BUT if u want an uber-character for playing the game allround, follow this guide to the point people  :afro: This one does more than kill 3 uber chars, it practically kills every monster in 1-3 hits.

Same here Kingdryland, tyvm awesome build, after being scammed twice trying to trade for a torch i saw your guide and built my smiter, it is awesome even with cheap equip:thumbsup:
I will just say a word for azurewrath as a weapon, it works really well in trist as the sanctuary really keeps those skellies and archer skellies off your back so you can concentrate on ubers, I have had no probs with damage with it at all.
I traded for a grief and did an uber run and ended up coming out and putting my azure back on, that aura REALLY helps in there, so i traded the grief away as it did'nt compare to azure(my pressshus).Imagine that!!!!!!
Anyhoo ty so much for build as I nearly quit D2 after being scammed I thought I would never get a torch....lol:wave:

You are wrong. Smite does not stun bosses. You want it simply for the 100% reliable, unblockable hit rate.

Exactly. While kickers,wolves,frenzy/concentration barbs etc choose to get their crushing blow as high as possible ,exactly because their skill misses often, with smite we can keep it at ~50% or even lower. We hit almost always, leech almost always and apply crushing blow often enough.

By leech you mean life tap, right? Smite doesn't work with the typical life/mana leech.

On that note, the ONLY sources of renewable life tap are Exile (shield), Last Wish (weapon) or Dracul's (gloves) right?

Yes, I'm just trying to clarify the point you were making. I'm just used to "life leech" meaning X% life steal I guess. No disrespect intented. Quoting from Arreat Summit:

Smite always hits a target in range, so Attack Rating does not matter when using this skill.
Smite does not work with Life/Mana % Steal.
Smite is a weapon skill and thus is affected by Attack Speed (e.g. 'Fanaticism') and is not affected by Cast Rate (e.g. -of the Apprentice). Smite works with any "X% Chance to cast level Y (spell) upon striking ability on your weapon.
Smite does not receive added damage vs. undead with the Sanctuary aura.
The Fire/Cold/Lightning damage added to attacks with the Holy-Fire, Holy-Freeze, and Holy-Shock auras do not add onto Smite damage.
Smite can steal life with life tap cursed on target.
Smite can also deal crushing blow and open wounds damage, but not deadly strike and elemental damages.
