The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

Thanks for Replying

This is where it helps to know what gear you are going to have before you commit points. Really, you can adjust dex as you go, using the mouseover check of Defense/Chance to Block level to see if you need more dex or not. I think that if you make sure the base level is up to snuff, and then your equipment ends up taking you a bit over where you thought you would be, it's not going to really hurt you in the long run, especially if you end up switching equipment pieces here and there (i.e. swapping Gulliame's Helm for Crown of Thieves).

Congrats on picking up a HoZ, and good luck on your efforts.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for replying first off lol. I went ahead and maxed block. I understand now. It's my first pally, so what would ya expect? I'm killing everything fairly easy, except for the physical immunes...what do you suggest I do for killing those?

thanks

Vs physical immunes: Switch with azurewrath or gimmershred or lawbringer etc. Generally something speedy with loads of elemental/magical damage. Famine,in a war spike,if you are ridiculously rich :). Lacerator can work too but 1. not all physical immunities are broken by amp damage and 2. if you are using dracul's amp damage and tap will confilct. You can't leech PIs but tap will override your amp damage.

Vs Iron Maiden. You can throw lacerators, gimmers or make a lawbringer in a really low base weapon. I have experimented with one made in a war scepter (for the speed). I can zeal around without fear, because the physical damage I inflict is low. So even If i get cursed only small damage is returned.

i just wanted to ask what about iron maiden cause i always die cause of them is there a way around them or need more vitility or something

i have chosen the following for pally for fanatic zealot

fort, ebotd zerk,mara,2sojs,2dwaf, frost + 2x 7ll+resist rings ,gore or waterwalk, exile with 45resist,deleruim or guill, drac, arch belt or tgod plus psn and pally gc charms

and 1 pt in vengence for physical immune and since it will rise when im using +skill items, 1 pt does the job for them

any suggestions will be helpful or changes about items

thank you

Iron Maiden:
Ohhhh the dreaded Iron Maiden. Here's a trick I use that helps allot. When entering the Chaos or Worldstone Keep, I equip gimmershred flying axes on my change. When in Chaos, as soon as I enter the fortress from the river of flame, I switch to the gimmers. In the Worldstone, when I reach level 3, I watch closely when entering to determine which monsters spawn. I noticed that there are always 3 different types. So if you don't see a mage and you've spotted 3 different types of monsters, zeal away. If you do see a mage in either level 3 or 4, switch right away to the gimmers. Gimmershreds do pretty decent damage when equipped with Fanatism. In Chaos I usually have to replentish at least 2-3 times in between the 5 seals to make sure I don't run dry. I hardly ever have to replentish in the Worldstone.
PI's:
As for PI's. I suggest using your Guill's and Gores. The 50% CB should help you take them down pretty easily. I use a grief PB with Guill's and Gores and went toe to toe with at least 10 PI Ghosties the other day. It took a couple of minutes but they all died and I didn't lose much life at all.
Merc:
I recently equipped my act 2 merc with an eth Duress armor, an eth Obiedience thresher and a Vamp Gaze (which I hope to aquire as eth soon). My merc can stay alive most of the time and his 50% CB from Obedience and Duress really helps too. I haven't had the opportunity to take him into uber tristam with his new gear yet but have heard that he can survive there for at least a short while.

If you are doing uber runs you have great gear. I suggest using fort, ebotdz, maras, ravenfrost, rare ring with 7LL, gores, guill's, exile and t-gods. I don't have any experience with arach belt (I know it's good) however the t-gods will give you +Max resist to lite and the exile will give you +max resist fire and cold. With that setup you'll have like 80 fire, 80 cold, 90 lite and 75 pois resistances. If you are just leveling or mfing, mix and match and have fun. I'll bet that delerium is a riot:):wink3:

Another nice choice for belts is: Verdungos, vita,dr,fhr, max stam, repl life, very sweet against high phys attackers like lillith, if you don't want to use SS with your paladin.

very nice guide!!

I am goint to try this out after i am done with my frenzy uber barb ..

I already have an eExile lying around.. I am just wondering which would be better: eExile or HoZ, and should the HoZ be upped?? (I am non ladder) Or would a sanctuary be fine?

Thanks

IMHO all good shields. I'd use the HoZ on switch and use Exile as my primary because of the life tap. The HoZ on switch will give you +4 to Holy Shield on pre-buff.

CB doesn't work vs Physical immunes. These ghosts died from some short of elemental damage I bet.

I actually run often run lilith with dungo+storm for max dr. People think that it is the poison that kills, but her physical attack is uncanny. Once I had to face her while she had fanaticism aura on,from some monster next to her and I was amped. Each hit of hers would lower my life bulb to scary levels.

very true kingdryland, SS+dungos is a killer, but I don't have enough str to equip SS, and besides, with Exile lifetap kicks in instantly, so no worries

Thanks, kingdryland I stand corrected. I do have a couple 100pois dmg and lite damg sc's on my character. That said, maybe I should add a few more:)

I just did my first uber trist run (10/14 necro :undecided: ), and I wanted to say thanks to kingdryland for putting together such a nice guide.

What struck me as being odd was how fast they all died. I went in with 60% cb (guillames and goblin toe) and a 350 grief, and I killed all 3, including all of meph and diablo's minions, in less than 5 minutes.

Anyone can do this. I almost hate to say, but I think I went in a bit over-prepared for the fight. Don't be afraid, it's really not that bad if you follow this guide.

Poison damage charms sucks for rapid hitting chars. You are hitting them 5x a second or so, and the charm lasts for 5 second (or is it 6), so you are doing 4 damage a hit.

Thanks for your insight. I don't profess to be an expert on the inner workings of diablo 2 however, what you say doesn't make sence to me. If you hit a monster with let's say 100 poison damage, yes it starts to work over 5 seconds. If you only hit him once that would be it. But in this case, you inject another 100 poison damage and then another in rapid succession. The best analogy I can think of is getting stung by a killer bee. You'd more than likely survive a single sting, however if you happen upon a swarm....well you know the rest. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The thing is, poison damage doesn't "stack". It simply resets the duration.
I did try a little test. I added a 3rd 100 poison damage sc and went for a test run in the arcane sanctuary. It wasn't long before I encountered some PI ghosties. It did seem to take them down even faster with the extra poison. I was using straight zeal and fanatism with a grief pb, fortitude and exile. I don't have any other sources except one small 20 something fire damage charm thats a second mod with life or ar on a sc. I went a little further and encountered a boss pack of PI ghosties. My merc tanked but I stood toe to toe and finished them off. I don't know what's enabling me to do this but I'm not one to complain when something works.

kingdryland tnx

kingdryland

I just wanted to say thanks for a very helpful guide. I have spend two straight weeks doing nothing but hellfire hunting and am having a blast.

Thank you. I couldn't believe it worked so well.

ok i followed the build for about a week now and my skills and gear is as follows:

23 sacriface

23 zeal

4 smite

23 holy shield

22 fanta

1 salvation

My gear is:

Duress dusk shroud runeword 1080 def

Grief PB

Exile Vortex Shield 730 def 43 res

IK belt

Dracs 7% life steal

manald heal ring

ravenfrost

gore riders

gulliames face

3 comb skills ammy

My stats with all my gear are:

smite dmg = 385-1041

zeal dmg = 742-945

def 13942 def (with holy shield)

fire res= -11

cold res= 2

light res= 13

pois res= -42

my resistance is verrryyyy low and even with salvation im pretty sure i can compete with mephs conviction aura, so how can i improve on my pally?

King,

Again want to say great job.
I made a medium build and use Heavens light, but I am wondering if OATH ETH BB would be better?

I rolled a low % dmg one (for my Barb) and am wondering what to do with it?
Would this weap. be better on this pally?
Anyone ever try this?

Thanks again and awesome guide..
