The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

Just did Ubers for the first time with this build. It's unreal how easy it is, even with mid-level gear.

Got an Assassin torch (17, 18). Might try to trade it for some key sets...

Great guide, btw!

+ Damage- This is my favorite set up.

Weapon: Grief phase blade. The absolute king of melee. Sick damage both for zeal and smite. Stats are irrelevant, all grief phase blades hit max speed and even the lowest roll will be devastating.

Guillaume’s face helm,
gore rider boots,
dracul’s grasp gloves.

Armor: Fortitude. Damage, defense, life, resists. All the wanted mods in one item.
Belt could be t-gods/credendum/ik etc.
Shield. Sanctuary , a good roll here, 100+ all res, in a nice elite paladin shield.
Amulet. Metalgrid (or rare with resists,or mara’s)
Ravenfrost+ a rare with resists/leech etc.

Ok, so Im aiming for this build too. What I was wondering is in the 2/3 years since the original post, has a more 'standard' set-up emerged? Specifically, for the second ring/belt slot. I have a cathans atm for the leech, but I was thinking a carrion could work well. The big poison resist would then make the belt choice a bit easier, IK for the light/fire resist, then maybe add in a rare amu with +cold resist, if I dont use my maras.

What shield is generally used for the Sanctuary? Im thinking a sacred rondache or targe, I guess these would be a bit cheaper than a vortex shield, however finding one with 3os would up the price Im sure. Dont suppose it really matters, as long as it has 3os & good base resists. Tho a lighter one would help with my strength reqs ofc.

Btw, Im generally going to be dclone hunting so do I need the dracs for that or can I stick to my crafted blood gloves? Its only 8 or 9% CB & 3% ll but they were free & dracs are a bit more expensive lol.

Not too much that needs to be swapped around if I do decide to have a go at ubers is there?

Most of the setup remains the same, IIRC, though a lot of people prefer HoZ or exile as a shield. (or diamond shield if you can't afford expensive stuff) Oh, poison resist is not nearly as important, since Meph's conviction does not lower poison resist, even though your other resists will be shot to hell.

About the only item swap you need is to prebuff fade, if you choose to do it, and maybe a Kira's for Meph, if you fear your resist. Otherwise, it's get in, kill, then get out.

DClone hunting? How often can DClone spawn? Do you have a dedicated setup with friends who can sell mass duped SOJs?? :P
Or some other way I'm not aware of? If so, enlighten me please!!!

Back on topic ...

For Dclone, Life Tap is not that important. Maybe precast with a wand but keep your nice crafted gloves on and have some rejuvi pots. He is going to be alone, unlike the Uber Tristram scenario. Especially if you get him at the Frigid waypoint, he's usually completely alone there. Make sure you have a poison charm or good OpenWounds% to stop his crazy regen.

I dont think 3 os pally shields with good base resist are less expenisve than a random Dracs, at least not on Europe ladder. I wouldnt know, not sure, but it doesnt make sense to me.

Second ring slots and belt slots are usually not subject to standardisation, although I almost always keep a Tgods in my belt slot anyway. But Credendum, IK, nice rares, Nosferatu, Strings, anything will do.
Secondary rings - Carrion, rare with res leech life, Dwarf, Wisp, extra low Raven, BK, etc

Never took the time to say what a fantastic and in depth guide this really is. It mentions all useful equipment in the entire game, which is great.

Just one thing:

Weapon: Grief phase blade. The absolute king of melee. Sick damage both for zeal and smite. Stats are irrelevant, all grief phase blades hit max speed and even the lowest roll will be devastating.

The absolute king of ONE-handed melee, and only for Smite and BvB purposes :) Just needed to add that. Much better options for pure Zealots, Fury, Maul, Frenzy, Whirlwind, Concentrate, Kickers etc :) :)

Haha i pwn u n00b ir l33t haxx0r soj d00paz!!!!1111!!!shift+111!!!!shift+1!!!1111

I have no special way I was just planning to keep an eye on a few server counters/mIRC chats & see if I could track him down. Also, I have had 3 SoJ counters pop up & dClone spawn within 5mins while random MFing in the last 3months, & each time I have had to call in help. The first time I kept the anni but the other 2 times I didnt really feel it was right to keep the anni as I didnt do any of the work lol. So I thought it was time to build myself a smiter to do it if it happens again. Also my cold sorc is done, can do meph/ATs easily without any more decent equipment, so I have some spare wealth to spend on another chara.

Atm I have a 4pdiamond sacred targe iirc, with +91 all resist, so a decent base res. I could keep that, but the +res & bonuses from sanctuary wouldnt hurt, just a question of setting my sorc to 'stun' & finding something, as I doubt I could afford a 3soc high res pala shield. I have a self-found mal, so making sanc would be a guaranteed no-poof RW. Which using the mal for 'grief' wouldnt neccessarily be.
So in conclusion:
I need to get/make my grief, maybe swap my shield for sanc/exile/HoZ (expensive option), find another ring, prob a few pgs for a 9ll carrion, spend a few pgs on tgods/IK. Maybe keep a kiras on stash in case I try ubers & my resists are shot to hell. Cool. Thank you all!

Some thoughts about the uberland that have been post in this great 290+ pages thread:

1) You need stacked resists when fighting Mephisto: 300 is the number: 100 hell + 125 conviction + 75 to get max. Lightning is the most dangerous by far, so Tgods is always a good idea (but you'll need 310 light that way... :P).

2) You need life tap: You can't leech from Mephisto and his skellies (and, not sure, just a bit from Diablo and Baal). Besides, life leech doesn't work with smite and you'd have a hard time hitting them with other skill. Sometimes, my red bulb went from 100% to less than 10% and back in 1 second... If you don't want Dracs, you can use a wand with life tap charges. Just remember slvl 3 life tap lasts around 30seconds, so you have to be fast...

3) You need crushing blow: To drop good amount of the Ubers life at the beginning of the fight. Good damaging weapons would help only at the end

4) You need open wounds: To stop the life regeneration of the Ubers, or you will have a hard time taking the last sliver of their lives.

For weapon, you could use a double shaeled Heaven's Light and still have good results.
For armor, Chains of Honor are better than Fortitude for this task.
By the way, if you have 4pdiamonds in your shield, it's base resists should be 15, not a very good base for a runeword one, but pretty high like it is.

I think its all been said before. You bring nothing new to the table.

Also, if you afford a Treachery (its CHEAP) you can prebuff Fade and that makes COH useless. Forti or Duress is way better. COH have become virtually worthless because lets face it, besides 65 res, what else does it offer that you cant find on better armors?

I think that after 2900+ posts in this thread alone, the chances are that no one is going to be able to bring something new to the table, it still doesn't stop slackwits asking the same old questions over and over and over and over again :p.

I doubt many ppl are going to bother read all the pages anymore, so a summary never hurt anyone. I'd suggest if you want to point out useless pointless redundant posts there are many many more suitable candidates :).
[like this one for example :p]

My first line states that I wasn't bringing anything new... The question it referred to wasn't anything new either, so I guess it was a draw! :P
I agree that if you prebuff with Treachery, you get almost the same resists of CoH, and enven more dr%, for 288 seconds. Pesonally, i don't like keeping things on my stash for prebuff and have a timer ticking on the backgroud to put me in a hurry.
Now, I consider CoH way superior to Fortitude in most aspects, but that is a preference matter. Take apart the resistences, Duress is better than Fotitude when facing the Ubers too.
Only for record, I ended up using none of them... went with the Griswold set, nicelly customized :)

and what have YOU brought to the table that's "new"?

just a bunch of insults towards other members from what i've seen.

By calling me on trolling you are trolling yourself.

You have a habit of jumping on people and expressing some irrational anger too ... Lets not touch each others toes yet shall we?

@piotrek my setup was more or less like this (I don't remember every jewel and not at home to confirm them...):
Weapon: Griswold's Redemption with 2 Bers and 2 Shaels
Shield: Griswold's Honor with 3 Ums
Helm: Griswold's Valor with 1 ias/res jewel (the other, I don't remember)
Armor: Griswold's Heart with %damage, resistance, fhr jewels
Belt: Tgods
Gloves: Dracs
Boots: Gore Riders
Ammulet: Seraphs (no need for a mara's)
Rings: Raven frost / Wisp projector
Switch: Cta + spirit
Inventary: anni, torch and resists charms enough to give max resistences even under lvl 20 Conviction, so I could keep fanaticism on all the time.

Not the fastest killer, yet very effective and safe... One would argue: "for that price, I could do much better!" I don't doubt it. And have tried myself some variants (grief, last wish, fortitude, coh, heaven's light, light saber - almost being healed by Mephs lightning isn't as fun as I've thought... :P).

One thing I haven't seen written in many places and yet works great for me: After killing Baal, switch to sanctuary aura to deal with his undead physical imunne minions. They become very docile that way... :)

Regards

lemme see here. you got banned after 573 posts.

me with my "irrational anger" and "trolling" is still standing after 3419 posts (as of this one).

interesting.

oh yeah, you're banned.

gee eff gee HeavAngel.

Guys, help me out for a second. I play hardcore, and I have the gear pretty much identical to the rich +dmg setup (grief forti sanct etc). The reason i built this char is for torch farming, period.

What should I do with the remaining skill points? defiance for defense bonus or smite? I am thinking of smite since the way i see it more leech and a very very very slightly faster boss death makes me better off than having more defense. what do you think?

On a sidenote, uber izual there is iron maiden. How can I get the organ piece from there with a 1pt smiter pally? Do I need help?

Gimmershred is good for the oblivion knights. KEep in mind they can't cast IM when you're in melee range. As for leftover skill points, I would actually put them in resist fire/lightning if you have the extra resists. Grief is plenty enough to leech from anyway.

I don't play Hardcore but I admire your bravery

Hello,

I have a question relative to the merc. Which one did you choose?
What's the best for normal boss and what's the most useful for Uber when you play a Zealot?

Thanks!
Choup

People normally use either might or holy freeze.

For ubers, the most useful merc is a dead merc, regardless of which act it comes from. Unless, of course, you enjoy having all 3 ubers and their minions surrounding you.

I wouldn't bet my life on that, not in HC.
