The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

I am wondering if heaven's light is a strong enough end game weapon? Certainly the runewords are stronger but my budget is a bit low at the moment, and I already have the light. What would you socket into it? high ed jewels with good second mods?

I used to use a HL last year (before i left d2 for a time) and i recall that 2os with 2*shael worked well, tho i seem to remember that it has to be 2os both shael for some breakpoint or other.

Took about 10-15 attempts to get meph into position without all his skeletons nuking me down, but I finally cleared Tristram :) Baal and Diablo were cake.

I didn't really find the IAS that critical, zeal and smite are already both fast attacks. Certainly it would help but I beat them with a still unsocketed heaven's light. Complete setup:

Heaven's light
Dracul's Grasp
Ravenfrost / rare life leech
Ik's belt
Gore Riders
Life leech amulet
Rare paladin shield (with pDiamond, 51 total resists)
Rockstopper
Guardian Angel

A mix of resist/life/damage charms. My resists suck and I'm really trying to find a nice 3/4 socketed paladin shield with high base resists, but it seems like every paladin shield I find is +ED. Still, the treachery prebuff was enough to save me, and salvation for meph. I'm going to try crafting better leech jewelery with resists also.

Torch was a 16/13 sorc, I'm happy :)

My smiter gear

i dont know but im kinda stuck and i want to know if this is any good for smiter

shield: 12*res , 2+paladin skills, 68% block rate, High ed

belt: dungos 11%

helmet: guellims face jeweled with 7%fhr and 33%ed

armor:enigma should i ditch it or keep

boots : getting gores

weapon: wizard bone shael'd

gloves : getting draculs

ammy: highlords

rings : trying to find raven frost and dwarf star

im on realm West NL

@nejxox: smite dmg will depend on the base shield type, tho if you can afford an enigma you certainly can afford a hoz. The enigma is pants for a smiter, either a CoH, Forti or Duress would be better I'd take a CoH myself as you're going to be low on resists. As it is your only real source of resists is the wizzie (and possibly anni & torch tho you don't mention them).

To sum up, ditch the enigma and get a hoz (unless the rare is in an elite base shield, but even then i'd take a hoz for the resists and the rest.

I am building this, uh, build atm, & I have just found a maras27. Obv this is worth a fair bit of runeage, so I was wondering if I should hang onto it to use for this build, or sell it & get myself a 'Grief' phase blade. I am planning to use it on dclone mainly, in case that is relevant, as he keeps popping up in my MF games & I want a chara to kill him without having to call in ETF help, lol. So is maras the best choice, or is there a as good/better/cheaper amu that would work?

Depends on whether you are using a zealot or a hammerdin. If you are using a 1 point smite hammerdin, keep the Mara's since you would love it for your ordinary game play. If you are making a fana zealot, sell it.

Hi!

I have a pure smiter and I´m thinking to make this 1point build.
I will describe my gear and would like suggestions if it is good or not for new build:

Weapon: Last wish PB
Armor: Coh in archon plate
Ammy: Highlord´s
Helm: Guillaumes with 15%ias jewel socketed
Boots: Gores
Rings: 2x20dex raven frost
Gloves: Draculs
Shield: Upped Hoz
Belt: Tal rasha belt

Thanks.

Marcelo

Dear Marcelo, that has fantastic killing speed because it offers 100% Crushing Blow and decent Smite damage. I would switch the belt for a Verdungo or Thundergods, or even a Credendum or rare one with resists. Everything else seems pretty solid. I would 'Um' or 'perfect diamond' your HoZ and add an Anni and Torch with good resistances, if you can afford them. Also a few resistance small charms, and as much charms with +life as you can will always help :)

Other than that, this is a very good build for UT. Provided you match what I recommended, you will not need to use Salvation vs Mephisto, and can keep Fanaticism up :) Also make sure you cast Fade from LW when you enter UT by going north and let yourself get hit by the flames and trigger the Fade animation.

+ Damage- This is my favorite set up.

Weapon: Grief phase blade. The absolute king of melee. Sick damage both for zeal and smite. Stats are irrelevant, all grief phase blades hit max speed and even the lowest roll will be devastating.

Guillaume’s face helm,
gore rider boots,
dracul’s grasp gloves.

Armor: Fortitude. Damage, defense, life, resists. All the wanted mods in one item.
Belt could be t-gods/credendum/ik etc.
Shield. Sanctuary , a good roll here, 100+ all res, in a nice elite paladin shield.
Amulet. Metalgrid (or rare with resists,or mara’s)
Ravenfrost+ a rare with resists/leech etc.

On this build what type of armor is best for Fortitude?
Im in the process of making this build, being my first pally, I dont know much about what goes on here.

The highest def light armour you can equip, archon / dusk are the usual choices, tho wyrmhide isn't unheard of.

Ahh ok thank you.

As far as that setup I just meantioned goes....
Is that a good build or is there anything I should change?
The shield I may go with an up'd HoZ, but we shall see

i will never understand why people insist on chasing Defense on PvM builds.

even on PvP builds it isn't until you get ~20k+ that it starts to really be noticeable.

as for Ubering shields, people often seem to forget the Sanctuary runeword (Ko+Ko+Mal) which can score up to +115% all res along with some splendid other mods. a cheap and perfectly viable ubering shield is any 4socket pally shield with decent resists on it (40+) stuffed full of Perfect Diamonds for up to +121% res all.

cheap armours include Smoke for 50% all res and Lionheart for the awesome set of mods it offers. i've used a Skin Of The Vipermagi in the past (had a res-jool in it for 50% all res).

Defense is very important for melee characters, 75% block is not enough and on characters with crap defense and 75% block, like kick assassins and fury druids, I have noticed max block does not even come into play as often as it should (ie 3 times out of 4), far less than that.

Paladins and Barbarians can go above 20K easily in PvM, and as you said from there it becomes very useful. Its not the max block that saves your hide when you are surrounded by Extra Strong Blood Lords or Lister's mob, its your insane defense :)

That is, only if you are walking. Most people are too lazy to set it to walk every time they engage a mob, and when you kill an enemy, or if it moves, you will follow and move. Then, defense doesn't even come into play. Nothing wrong with getting defense for melee char, but there's no point in getting excessive amount of it if you cannot play in such a way that utilize it well. Of course, your chance to block is shot to hell as well, but it is usually far easier to get max block. Presumably, if progamers exist in D2, they will use their 300 APM to switch run/walk all the time to maximize its benefits.

However, I don't see too much of a reason for insane defense vs the ubers, they are lvl 110 after all, so they will hit you just because of the lvl difference.
