Switching to HC Ladder till ladder reset

I figured I have nothing better to do till the reset, so what the hey...I'll use this thread for my morgue report (if it's ok with the mod crew) with pics included.

FYI - I've only played HC once and NL. This will be HCL till reset.

USEast - First Character *Anti_Rot (died) - Character name Reset_Now (Yeah, not very thoughtful)

*I'm playing with my Trapsin now, Anti_Rot happens to be my account name if anyone cares.

Anyone else care to join me, look me up.

Anyhow, I'm off.

I will make a few HC builds but the one thing I dislike is the paranoia around PKers. I love co-oping with strangers, but if you don't have a good list of friends it's a desert out there for public gaming. 95% people are in private games and I think that ruins the MP experience.

I'm ok with solo quests and game play. I try and make my own games with level restrictions and such. I only have one other person (so far) that I've got on my HC friends list. We played a while last night, I leveled a few times but then had to cook dinner so I ended my night at lv5.

I once went Hardcore with a Sorc.


Faught Andariel.

Won.

Fought her again and died trying to static her.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, but I'm also still trying to defeat the ubers with my chars (I got the organ set and then died a million deaths to uber meph and gave up!).

If I decide to give it a try, I'll look you up. Otherwise, best of luck in your HC quest.

A word of warning: TPPK is pretty bad on hardcore. Unless you plan on playing solo or with friends, make sure to join the forum channels (Banana on East and Gauss on Europe). Both channels also have some accounts of starter equipment, that might help you get started.

#EDIT: Oh and remember /fps. If the game starts to lag, be ready to log out. Dying to lag bites! And reading the HC stickies (getting started on HC) is an excellent idea.

Will do, thanks!...but remember, I'm wasting some time reset. I plan on not being too attached to my character.

Lv6 and still alive - yay the excitement is so.... :shocked:

I too decided to go to HC when I heard the ladder reset was coming.

I figured since it was my first HC experience, I would go the summoner necro route for relative safety. I am currently level 54 in act 5 NM and got a Tals mask and a Pul in the last game I played last night.

I found it refreshing to once again be excited when I found the Pul.

Well heck! I was trying to get my imbue quest thinking it would be helpful in case I find a superior sceptor or shield for my pally I was building.

But you see...I started thinking and took my left hand off my keyboard whilst scratching myself.

*Note to self - Life leach still does not work with undead.

Oh well, only a level 10. I didn't get much playing time due to being busy at work all week. I had only been playing maybe an hour or so.

I think I'll try a Assasin next.

Notes - My new Assasin (traps) is working out well (so far). She's lvl 16 and almost ready for A2. Playing with a small group of friends last night while trist runnin' is totally different in HC. Everything is much slower, everyone is careful, etc. We lost one guy last night. His lvl 15 barb was taken down by an archer :tombstone:.

I've noticed that when someone hostiles in a game, most everyone is very quick to insta-leave. We had a lvl 14 pally join the game with us and he would stay in the party, then leave the party. He kept doing this for a while, and sure enough, he hostiled the four of us. The other's I was playing with were a Sorc, Necro, and a Sin. He starts talkin' smack about how he's a hunter, and hunts newbs like us, bad things about or moms (?), you get the picture. I whisper my friend who is the other Sin and tell him to start throwin' Shock Web traps on the TP I'm about to open, I whisper the other guys letting them know we're going to let him in through the portal but be ready for a quick game escape if something goes wrong.

So, lvl 14 Pally keeps saying he's coming to get us, so I tell him I'm opening a TP and he can come on in anytime he's ready. My other friends, get ready, sorc has enough mana pots, necro has his massive army of 3 skellys and clay golem, I open the tp and start tossing shock web traps, sorcs releases a mighty ice blast, other Sin throws a couple web traps, and the necro, well...lets just say he's a necro :scratchchin: (Skelly's and Golem have minds of their own) and does his best assault of teeth.

The smack pally steps through and...:xxx: :tombstone:

Let's just say he didn't allow us to loot his corpes. That was my first hostile experience in HC. I wish I had screen shot of the chat log so everyone could have seen how much of a hole this guy was. How dare he talk about our mom's!? :nono: Anyhow, HC is much slower and with good reason. Diggin' it so far.

Legit hunting is fair game in HC (exept for the foul lingo ofc). He should've tracked you down himself though - would've been the right thing to do.
Btw good thing, you didn't run into someone, who knew what the heck he was doing. Then I doubt either one in the party had survived.

It all adds to the flavor and exitement of HC :thumbup:.

Ahh... I was actually thinking about joining you the other day, since I have pretty much nothing to do at work, and I play D2 anyways.
I remember a while back I played quite a bit of hardcore though, it was a lot of fun.

That acutally sounds like a load of fun. Sorry for your loss on char 1 but it looks like you are doing well. My HC bowazon (crappy bow) is up to about level 12 or so. Rakanishu almost took me down, but other than that, its been smooth sailing. I'm sure my lax attitude will get the better of me. I need to find a good monster to run to get better stuff (I did get a Ral from the countess!). I'm feeling underpowered.

Anyway, I might be on tonight. I'll see if you are playin'

This thread inspired me to try my 1st HC char.
I'm trying a summoner necro now. :)

Make that my second HC char. My first one got pwned a couple of minutes ago by a cold enchanted thingie. Killed the thingie, the post-mortem blast got my Char... :( (/Edit)

Oh well.

Update:

My first HC endeavor, summoner necro, is now level 71. He just got the last way point in act 1 and is about to kill Andy. I got a Sol rune on my last NM cow run and I am debating doing a few more before act 2.

My gear is pathetic, but gradually improving. I bought a staff with 45 teleport charges on it, last time I was on, and it greatly improved my NM meph/baal runs.

I agree with you. I know there are some players that specifically play only to loot others corpses. Some kind of weird thrill I imagine. But I'm not sure why someone as low a lvl would hostile a group that are equal or slightly higher. There's not much loot to grab.

I made my first HC char when I heard the ladder was resetting a few nights ago. Last night I found a nifty game called Enchant-02. There was a bot in act 1 that would enchant you if you stood near it and typed "enchant" or would enchant you + your minions if you typed "enchantall". It was the first time I have actually seen something like this and I found it quite useful.

Anyway, I got my character from level 14 act 1 to level 21 act 2 when the game lagged out and the bot must have been RD'd as Enchant-03 was never created. So I went into another game which had 6 players in it (including a level 80) called enchantkill. I noticed the cow level in act 1 by the edge of town and the level 80 waiting by the edge as well. So I thought to myself this is great, I will get enchanted then kill cows.

I step outside of town and the level 80 enchants me. Being a druid (and very ignorant as this is my first HC char) I change to werewolf form, cast my oak sage and while I am in the midst of casting my wolf I hear the dreaded hostile sound followed by the bzzz of a thunder bolt. Lo and behold my deeds will be remembered.

I wsn't too upset about it, this char was just meant to waste time until the ladder reset. Plus my best item was a hsarus shield :crazyeyes:

Sorry for you loss Tepe.

I've yet to enter a public game. My Bowazon is up to lvl 17 (I want the lvl 18 spells!). I tried running Bone Ash by the Inner Cloister WP for some better items, but after about 10 runs, nothing green or gold fell and I moved onto Andy out of boredom.

My Andy fight was interesting. Being hardcore, I drank a whole bunch of baby purples with fear of death. Much more than I usually would in a similar SC fight. I did survive, although my merc did not and Andy didn't drop anything worthwhile. I went to Act II, killed Radament and called it a day.

I seriously doubt it's the loot they're after. They are armed with top-notch lld stuff as it is (at least the more professional ones are). It's more the thrill of the chase and the kill, as I see it - and of course the risk of actually loosing a char (after all being level 14 and hostiling several other level 14s involves a risk regardless of equipment).
There is also a breed of PKPKs, who chase the PKs :scratchchin:. Or play helpless victims only to manifest a higher justice upon the poor PK upon their encounter.
All is good fun and true to the HC universe. The sad thing is TPPKs and chicken hacks, but hopefully a 1.13 patch will fix those.
