Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge

HD took down Mephisto today. Have to say it was a bit difficult. I tried inching through Durance lvl 3 to activate Bremm's pack one at a time but of course they all came flooding in at once. I couldn't get any of them isolated to target and kill. And my merc was dying in seconds (he was Cursed, Extra Strong on top of his usual Conviction, LE). So I had to just rush past him. Luckily he didn't follow. Took down Mephi with the moat trick sadly enough. Always reminds me of killing the Butcher in Diablo I when doing that (ie runny cheese).

She's still not ready to pass on yet. The Ruined Temple is stair trapped and I haven't been able to get a foothold into it. First time was a Wailing Beast Stone Skin, Extra Strong boss pack, with an extra fast, cursed Curropt Rouge boss pack. Wailing beast stunned merc to point where he couldn't attack at all and died over and over. Second try got extra strong, cursed spider pack with Curropt Rouge boss pack and Champion Ghoul Lord's. Took out the Corrupt Rouge's and the Spider Boss. But his henchmen ended up so close to the stairs, one time I went through and the Merc, and Shadow died, while my life was taken down over 3/4's in about 2 seconds. Didn't try that again.

I'll get her done tommorow hopefully and have her passed on shortly.

At this point, everyone should be done with act 2, and started with act 3. If you aren't... well... you're tardy! :jig: Get a move on.

Gertrude Stein is sitting at the Kurast Bazaar WP... she had a lucky Forgotten Temple situation (no stair traps), and has also found the third internal organ in the sewers. Next up, Travincal and Meph. I hate hell Travincal. I've never died there, but it's always a fairly rough fight. And I've lost more HC characters to Bremm than any other critter, so I'm really not looking forward to that battle on Durance 3. But with any luck, I'll get through it tonight, without wasting too much gold on my poor merc.

Gertrude Stein has defeated Mephisto. He dropped her a Demon's Arch, which would've been nice in any other tournament. Durance 3 was really, really hairy. Very glad to get past that alive.

I'll probably pass her forward on Saturday (on schedule)... I need to go find a bunch of gold with her first. LK, here I come...

NOTE TO ALL: remember, you need to have the character sitting in Act 4 when you pass them on. No fair killing Meph but not taking the red portal.

Lowell has been sent onward to Hrus, and I await my next character HD. It's interesting seeing the characters a second time- for me, from now on out they'll all be repeats. I had HD in normal A5 and she personalized an armor then (a 3 socket breastplate) which may be suitable for her now. Hopefully she doesn't mind that many other characters and mercs have worn it in the meantime!

Purplelocust, seeing as you've gotten Lowell passed on I'll stop hoarding gold and get HD moving on to you tonight. Lower Kurast + Gheed's Fortune has been very nice to me. I got a Humunculous (I should know how to spell this) off of a Necro Head rack and a Raven Frost from a corpse. Not to mention obscene amounts of gold.

Gertrude Stein has been sent along. Wish I could say I fulfilled my goal of finding tons of gold with her... I got up to about $500K and was painfully bored, so I just gave up. I'll have to be careful in acts 4 & 5. Or sell more stuff.

HD sent on to purplelocust. Sorry for the delay, long work night yesterday and then forums were down this afternoon.

GertrudeStein received and working. I've never taken on Hell Diablo without MP'ing before, and this tournament is the first time I've ever taken a Zon past normal difficulty so I'm not liking my odds. But I am well equiped for her (not to mention enough gold for over 100 merc ressurections) so I'll see what happens.

Olga sent to Hoop. Lowell received from purplelocust.

Travincal council was tough, I had to resurrect my merc ~6 times and Extra strong Cursed Bremm hit me once (twice would be enough to die). I sneaked around Durance council and killed Meph with Moat Trick.

HD has been safely received and settled into a very familiar outfit from 9 acts ago. Almost everything but her hat and weapon she wore before, and it is a now a much nicer hat! One of her old pieces of gear seemed to get a hole in it while she was out traipsing about in other wardrobes, but she's not complaining about that! And someone put a nice shiny diamond in the hole she'd had Larzuk make in her shield, so of course she is grateful for that. Hopefully she'll manage good progress on Act 4!

Well I was just going to take Gertrude out for a test drive and ended up going all the way to the river WP. I guess that's mainly because Act 4 has always been my favorite, it's pretty small and I had a favorable monster roll. Goings a bit slow, but not too dangerous. Only got a Ko from the Forge, guess it could have been worse. Inching towards Diablo. Took me about an hour just to get from the River WP to the door of the Chaos Sanctuary. Not at all looking forward to what awaits ahead. May just call it a day and start over again.

Well I guess I just got too excited today. Diablo has fallen to GertrudeStein. I played it reeeeeaaaaalllyyyy safe so the only hairy moment was against Diablo himself. He landed two consecutive melee hits on me taking my life ball down to about 1/5th and was winding up for his Firestorm before I could smash my belt hotkeys. Think I ended up chugging about 3 full rejuvs because of my stumpy uncoordinated fingers. Of course he dropped all crappy blues.

No good finds in the rest of Act 4 either. Most annoying part was Lord De Seis, and the merc in general. Does he cast any curses other than IM? Also difficult were the two Immune physical/lightning boss packs right next to one another.

Anyway she's already been sent on to purplelocust, good luck to everyone with Act 4.

Hi All,

Good work, Brak... our first to make it to act 5 hell!

@ those not yet done with act 3 (Hoop76, JoeBruce, Billybgame): like last week, you have until Wednesday, if you need it. But please try to be done by then at the very latest.

It would be nice, given the brevity of act 4, if we could be back on schedule by Saturday (i.e., everyone either done with act 4, or pushing up daisies :jig: ).

Well sorry for the late post on this, but the superbowl yesterday sidetracked me.
I hate to say it buy Bishop is dead. He made it all the way do durance 3, but got killed by one of the council. I hate to say it but gold was my main problem. I had no merc, and my main weapon broke mid act 3. A nords that had charges used on it and was 100k or more to repair. His final stats were

112 str 99Dex 229 Vit 40 Energy
20 sacrifice
20 zeal
20 fant
4 Holy shield and the rest spread out.

Really a solid build that i should of probably made it through.
I have the next char from hrus, i can either send it on to joebruce, or let hrus send it to him.

I did find a pretty good charm in act 3 that im glad i transferred off before going to fight meph.

RIP, Bishop!

Hoop (or Hrus) please make sure you send Olga along to JoeBruce.

And then there were 6...

By the way:

Since the Sequel tournament will be starting Saturday, I wanted everyone to know that we will have *two* weeks to work on Act 5. So for those who make it that far, you'll have more time, both to play safely, and to play the other tournament.

Looking in my Sent box, I think I forgot to include the Olga.d2s in the mail to Hoop, so I will send the char to JoeBruce when I get home today.

@skunkbelly: 2 weeks will be nice for me, but I fear that I won't play during the MFO week... (this tourney will be probably over, but Sequel will run)

We'll figure that out... there are probably many others in the same boat.

RIP Bishop. He took me through Act 3 Normal way back in November!!!

I put one level on him and had fun zealing everything to death. When he left me, he had
Sacrifice: 11
Zeal: 8
Holy Shield:2 and a smattering of other skills.

Str: 70, Dex: 55, Vit: 80 and Ene: 15 rounded him out.

R.I.P. Hoop76 and Bishop. Been so long, I can't even remember him.

Skunk....I made it to Lower Kurast last night, and want to make some money. So, I'm thinking tonight, or tomorrow, and I'll(eek...I'm starting to assume I'll live....a big no-no) forward Eliot to you. Wednesday, at the very latest. I guess it'll depend on my money making. And, boredom with doing it, as probably like you, I don't like running anything ad nauseum. Anyhow, to make a long story short, if he still lives, you'll get him by Wednesday.

Sorry to hear about Bishop's death, Hoop76! The council is trouble but the money limitations would make it even harder! What weapon were you using after your Nord's broke?

I had Bishop for A5 NM and thought he was sturdy and a strong melee build. I didn't have great gear for him- I think I was mostly using Coldsteel Eye and Baezil's Vortex (with Goblin Toes) and he was quite comfortable the whole way through. I ran Baal a few times with him but I backed off whenever there were OK's in the Worldstone- I'm glad I didn't have to face IM with him.

Bishop upon arrival NM A5:
level 65
Sac 20 Zeal 15 Veng 1, HS 2
Fanat 12 Conv 1
Cleansing 6, Redempt 1
S 112 D 89 V174 E40

Bishop upon departure:
level 75
Sac 20 Zeal 17 Veng 1 HS 2
Fanat 20 Conv 1
Cleansing 6 Redempt 1
S 112 V 224 D 89 E40

I assume that the Cleansing investment was to minimize curse length from someone who had to play him through the Chaos Sanctuary. I'd say he had not many "wasted" skill points, perhaps just about the fewest among characters I've seen. I maxed Fanaticism and then pumped Zeal and (as usual) put every available attribute point into vitality.
