Ok, having had a few lucky break on some decent runes lately has rasied my hopes of being able to make one of those ridiculously godly runewords one of these days. I have found some ums (from countess). One Ist from a random monster on the way to Hell Baal, and a Gul from Hell Forge. Now, I wanna know, for everyone here that has runes vex and above, where do youguys find them? Is thre a specific area to farm to increase the chances of a higher rune drop? Do you just kill the Countes all day long and cube all day long?
 
I found my Vex from the Hell Hellforge, a Ohm on the way to Hell Baal and 1 zod (yes I was so happy) in a Pit Run. I found some other good ones but I've used them up and can't remember where I got them from

Personally I would just cube them since it would be too much trouble to run Hellforge or Countess and hope for a Ist or soemthing but thats just me

I didn't get it from the first drop, I ran Hepasto a few more times, he can drop up to Zod you know

EDIT: I think my Hellforge Quest drop was a Mal
 
always get caught out? You mean caught with their pants down? :lol:

Anyways, so can someone tell me if there is any area with an increased frequency of rune drops? Should I just go for the most largest population density of monsters? (e.g Nm or Hell cows?)
 
On topic: I found a Sur Rune once, damnit I was happy. Traded it away cheaply to someone who gave me some items (pretty common ones) that I needed. One good turn deserves another.

My highest rune found so far is Mal from random chest in hell act 5 frozen tundra.

I think I've had total 4 um's so far, just one left unused

The best rune I ever found was a Um from the Quest Hellforge drop, I was pretty happy because the only other runes I had were around Shaels and a Lum if I was lucky
 
A Gul is the highest since the final patch came out.
Have some higher 1.09 runes in SC. But I only play HC now.
I hope that I can get another Gul with my Druid who starts to get close to the Hellforge so I can make a Vex rune to finally make a Heart of the Oak. But that probably wont happen.
From what I see you can forget about those rare runes dropping and just play the game and have fun and suddenly when you least expect a monster will drop that nice rune for you. That's why I started playing this game long ago. And I still play because it's fun and it gets even better when a nice Grail item drops.
My IK_barb is doing countessruns aswell and I pick up every rune that drops and then I cube them.
So far he have picked up 632 runes from the countess. Highest so far is two Fal runes. And some Ko runes and a significant amount of Io runes no Ist in sight so far.

I'm not sure but I think countess could drop up to Vex back then but I'm not sure because it never happened to me.
There were probably more runes back in 1.09 but that was probably because the patch lasted so long before it was replaced by a new one.
I think that midlevel runes is at least a bit easier to find after the patch but again I can be fooled by my own imagination.

the highest rune i found was MAL, and i got it from the hephasto's altar, quest in act 4 on hell diff. Further i do a lot of countess runs, but haven't been very lucky ... io was highest
 
I've been running the countess for quite some time and IMO that is the best place to find your runes.. You just need alot of luck to find your high runes somewhere else but if you run the countess for an hour your have 2 (I can't give exact numbers offcourse but you'll get the idea :) ) decent high runes and ALOT of low ones that you can cube into better ones. Best runes I found so far are 2x Um, 1 out of hellforge and the other I forgot.. behind that 1 pul and 1 lem, both from countess. :thumbsup:
