Set/Unique Item Worshippers Tournament II

I believe it's possible (theoretically), for a barbarian plus his merc, to play within the rules of the tourney and manage to equip 52 S/U items (51 in the gear + Gheed's)... Talk about style points! :thumbsup:

Other character classes would be limited to a paltry 48 S/U's.

erimat's got it. Various S/U's come with certain numbers of sockets. And a barbarian could dual-wield Rune Masters (with 2 more on the weapon switch) stuffed with 20 facets.

Act 3 mage could use a 3-socket unique shield and a Djinn Slayer sword with 2 sockets.
Hmm... I suppose he could instead use a plain 6 socket sword with 6 facets, to get the combined count up to 55. If we count the Iron Golem, there's a unique amulet IIRC with IG charges, now we're at 56! :shocked:

That brings up a rule question. What if a character found a unique jewel, rerolled an elite magical one-handed weapon, scored a nice Cruel something of Quickness, and used the unique jewel in one of the sockets?
Would that count as equipping a S/U? Just the same as equipping a regular S/U?

It *would*, but you'd also have to, at the earliest possible time, socket a unique weapon/shield/armor and plug it in there, making it 1 (item) + 1 (jewel) equipped. :)

Bonemuncher has gotten pretty damn lucky with his drops and he's about to start Act2 NM after finding 2 s/u's in the cow level (normal) and 13(!) s/u in Act1 NM. (All on /p8)

Progress has been slow but mindnumbingly slow yet. Out of all the sets and uniques found, I still do not have 3 shields yet so I'm still leaning on my Barbarian merc as a crutch.

(After finding the Dark Clan Crusher, unless I'm attacking a demon, my damage still doesn't compare to the barbarian)

Would someone just go ahead and correct his score to 16 or 17(if using another merc than act 1 or 2). If that many, even. You sure aren't going to have any Facets, or Gheeds in NM. Well, you might get a Gheed in late NM, I guess. But, it's doubtful.

Not to mention, I've never even seen a Facet, so maybe if you played this tournament for a few years you may get more than 17(counting Gheeds).

I guess we better ALL start listing what S/U's are going into compiling our totals.


As for my lonely Assassin, I played her to the Inner Cloister the other day. I'm still stuck with my measly one S/U(Arctic Furs).

Melica is experiencing the best of times right now. Her attacking power is way ahead of what the monsters can take. The spare skill points are now all invested, and Phoenix Strike is at level 15. Got a random point in CoT, nice!

Recent finds that she uses: Infernostride, Steelclash and Rockfleece.

Three more levels to go, then I must get a barb merc (unless I find a S/U shield or two S/U helms)

Time to clean out Nihlathak´s temple...

Melica is now a Destroyer, but cows are still to do in Normal.

It was some frequent merc switching for a while during act 5. When Melica turned level 46, she decided to hire a barbarian merc. She wanted to try one out, and get him to level 47 as soon as possible so he could wear the IK helm. He did surprisingly well with Cleglaw´s crappy sword. :tongue:

However, when she was something like level 46.8 (i.e. less than half a level away from the merc reaching level 47) she found Milabrega´s shield. That meant that she had to switch back to an Iron Wolf immediately, to equip as many S/U items as possible for the moment. But as soon as she reached level 48, she hired Tharr the level 47 barbarian. I intend to keep him until I find a second piece of S/U headgear that Melica can equip.

I´ve been gambling circlets and gloves lately. One pair of Leather Gloves turned bright red when it appeared in my inventory. "Hmm, I know that colour. Yup, alrighty then, no more gloves for a while now...".

I dug out my sword from the same set. What a nice combo! Huge IAS, good life steal (especially if I kick with my exceptional boots) and respectable cold damage.

I took on everything (including Ancients and Baal, just to show off) on /p8.

Melica has started her NM adventures. She faced her first NDE (a couple of them, in fact!) against a pack of Extra Strong + Cursed Gargantuan Beasts in the Plains. The boss was particularly dangerous. Tharr could not stand up to him for long, and I ended up hitting once, then run, hit to release a Meteor, then run in a tight circle to keep the boss in the flames.

Every LE boss is also a potential threat, because Melica has -30 lightning resistance! Haven?t found a single lightning resistance charm yet.
Usually I can solve it by raining down Meteors on the minions before the boss is close, then let Tharr tank the bosss (with plenty of potion help, if needed) until the flames kill it. Maybe I should put a point in Fade?

Two uniques found this session: Swordback Hold (which got sold) and Hawkmail. A source of CBF, cool! Tharr inherited the Rockfleece.

Gibsu has finished Normal (except for cows - thanks for the reminder, jiansonz). In Act 4 he found Cleglaw's Tooth, and so hired Narphet, the Act 3 lightning mage to carry it. Diablo was kind enough to drop Bloodrise, which meant we finally had to get rid of Gibsu's +3 HF scepter. Even so HF continues to be our primary attack.

Baal was even kinder with his drop: four set pieces! (Hsarus' Iron Heel, Infernal Sign, Arcanna's Head, and Sigon's Guard.) The boots and shield both filled empty slots, bringing my S/U equipment to 12 items. However I'm still keeping Anya's gift shield on primary (no, really!), since it wasn't half bad (+1 skills, resist all, etc.).

Hey everyone, its true, the almighty Bob returns.

What, a S/U Worshipper tourney without Lacerta? This cannot be!! Just because I quit playing the game for 2 years is no reason to exclude little me. :laugh:

I'm back, and I'm still Bob, but this time, the dice have decided I will be a Druid!

Thus begins the career of Bob, who actually hasn't been born yet, since God (me) :innocent: is stuck at work. But the weekend is fast approaching, so progress will quickly be made.


And yes, this is my official return to the forums, after a long hiatus. Its good to see a few familiar faces. Funny how some games just call your name, isn't it?

Well, Don finally done beat my least favortie Act in the entire game, that being Act 2, of course. The Arcane Sanctuary dropped Don nothing, but did manage to hide the Summoner until the last leg Don found, fortunately (there's nothing harder for this ex-Bnet player to do than to go back and do a full clear after finding the way out of something, and I keep doing that on my first try). The Canyon and Tombs were uneventful, for the most part, except for Ancient Kaa the Soulless, who almost managed to off Don several times, and of course the finding of Cathan's Mask, which promptly found Jemali's head. Don's sitting on Level 28 now; I don't remember exactly where the random skills appointed themselves, but I do know that Spear Mastery has a suspicious-looking point in it and that Throwing and Axe Masteries are both up to 3 and 2, respectively. Battle Orders got a second point, too, courtesy of Don's Level 27 skill.

He presses on into Act 3, my favorite in the game.

Bob is exhausted. He kneels down and prays, "Please, let me have a day of rest" God declares, "You may have 2 hours of rest, no more" Bob falls over where he stands and immediately begins to snore.

Act 1 -
Bob cruised through all of act 1 without any real difficulties. He rolled 3 points in Raven, which I originally took to be unfortunate, but have found to be great for crowd control. Also, the 2 points that mysteriously ended up in Poison Creeper have helped him take down random flayers without even a glance in their direction.

At level 12, he came across Hsarus' Iron Fist Buckler from a Fallen in the Stony Field. At 17, He found Infernal Cranium, Cap from a Fallen in the Outer Cloister, ant at level 19, he found a 30% Nagelring in the Cathedral from...wait for it....a Fallen. Ok, so they weren't all called "Fallen" but they were all the same type. It pays to do full clears. The countess mocked Bob by dropping Eld, but she did so in duplicate. I'm not sure if that makes it better or more insulting.

The Countess was felled without much difficulty just a hair shy of level 21. In spite, she dropped only rares. Bob took the money from his adventures to see the head of the local black market and gambled everything away. He was rewarded with a few upgrades, but didn't hold out much hope for hanging on to them.

On to Act 2 -
Bob was most upset when, on the second level of the Stony Tomb, he came across Arctic Binding Light Belt. There goes a whole row of potions. He was somewhat mollified by the high amount of Cold Resist thus gained, however.

Up to this point, Bob was cruising right along, partly because his rolls had granted him several pets to aid him in his adventures, and partly because he was able to use whatever weaponry he wished. This was not to last, however. From the Lost City to the end of Act 2, he found Isenhart's Lightbrand, Skewer of Krintiz, Deathspade Axe, and Angelic Sickle. Gah, 4 one handed weapons. Well, nothing I could do about it at that point. He picked the 2 least bad :( and continued on until he could hire a Cold Wolf in Act 3. Along the way, he also picked up an Angelic Mantle.

Duriel was downed at level 28 without much difficulty, I did have to take one trip to town for more mana potions, for which Duriel punished me by dropping 5 rares. I hope that means he and Andy gave them all to Mephisto to hold on to for me, seems to be a conspiracy going on.

Once again, Bob fed his gambling habit, but to no avail. Lady Luck was not with him this day.

Anyway, so far, the dice have only granted me 2 points in Elemental, so apparantly I will be a shapeshifter/summoner, whether I like it or not :) I have 5 points still saved, and did put a few into Dire Wolf to ensure I got past Duriel, and to pick up the pace elsewhere.

Unlike Lostprophet, I rather enjoy Act 2, and now must head into the dreaded Act 3, which I don't like so much. But Bob will triumph.
