Returning to the Roots - Mini mafia game

It's quiet in here. Everyone must be day talking with their mafia buddy.

Random Question for Everyone:
If you were mafia, which of the 6 setups would you most hate to face?

--------------------------------------------------

I didn't expect the game to start so soon. I'm only normally busy until tomorrow afternoon. From Fri eventing till Sunday evening I'll be pretty MIA. I should be able to read the thread and vote late Fri night but don't count on anything from me on Sat.

Goryani, Sane cop + jailkeeper. The cop would eventually rat you out, and in a game of this size even 1 positive mafia read via dumb luck is enough to blow your cover. The JK would be another one that could really blow your cover, essentially making the game nigh unwinnable for mafia unless the stars align.

Yes, jail+cop seems the worst for mafia, while doc only is probably the best for mafia.

Jailer has a 1/9 of catching mafia right now and cop has a 2/9. Doc can never actually catch mafia, although they can sort of confirm a townie if nobody dies.

Caluin Graye has been stumped!

Interesting game idea: death results in you losing all powers and being treestumped.

Also interesting that we have the possible roles known, it takes away a lot of the theorizing from the first day.

Pretty much this. Although cop+doc may be a close second for strongest. And a jailkeep alone might be just as bad as the doc. The real tricky part is that we don't know who is in the game, or have any way of finding out if a role has been killed.

Vote: Bad Ash
Reason: First to sign up is always a shady character.

You come out with a vote on Bad Ash right off the bat in Assassin in the Castle with an equally flimsy reason. You were the Assassin in that game. Coincidence?

Did cg say there would be day talk for mafia? Or is that a slip

Even though I do not agree with Goryani's reason for his vote on you, that is some hefty LAMIST.

I haven't played this format before. I agree that cop+jailkeep looks the best for town and worst for mafia. It feels quite refreshing to have a vanilla game without strange mechanics. We'll depend much more on basic scumhunting and there are less possibilities for scum to hide.

Random Vote: Ankeli

Reason: A coinflip? Really?

1) Less possibilities for scum to hide info, but also less possibilities for town to catch them in a lie.
2) A coin flip that won you the game :P You would have lost otherwise.

I didn't read much of the dead threads after the SoIaF game, how would we have lost if Moar hadn't been lynched?
It seems like it would've been easier with Moar still alive.

Not going to vote yet until there's some more discussion, more chances to catch someone slipping up. :P

Real tricky part? Just as bad? How does everyone finding out what roles are in the game help the Town to win?

I too felt his vote was shaky. Like trying to distract us from something. Also I was genuinely asking if cal had posted about day talk cause if he didn't how else would gory know that?

(P.s. he did. I didn't have time when I posted to go back and double check)

If we knew exactly what was in the game, it would be easier - cop/jailer could expect doc protection after claiming, jailer knows if kill prevention is definitively his work. Without that knowledge, it becomes harder to figure out how to play a power role.

Commenting on kestegs post. The worst situation for the town would be jailer alone I think, or at least it would be close to doc alone.

In the more complicated games, there tends to be ways of catching mafia in a lie (or at least with a weak claim) with a mass claim. I can't really see that helping town at any point in this game, as mafia can lie to easily and be uncatchable in this setup.
