Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

any way to take advantage of this? leechers usually wait for message to enter tp. But when I attempt to open a trade screen with them it seems to prevent them from going into tp. The only problem is when runner leaves game they still follow.

So basically every run I can prevent them from going into tp but not much else.

I have a prototype tactic for leachers actually.

Once I killed a bot which had a leacher following. After the bot had chickened the leacher was still standing in town. I typed "TP up!" in the exact same way as the bot had said. Once I did that the leacher entered my tp straight away.

This would of course require some more testing before I'm confident it wasn't a one time thing, but if it works it could be fun.

Open up a super hot tp before the running bot has done so --> say the tp up phrase --> Profit.

Will try to test this some more when I have time.

Heh Read this today and figured I try it out. I used to love killing bots back when they ran trav, shenk. One thing is for sure, killing them is nowhere near as fun as getting them killed. I've been working on the 96+ ones for a couple hours now. Got about 8 them. It's a bit shaky whether or not they drop before they die but when they do I can almost taste the nerdrage of the botter when he realizes that days exp was lost. Delicious.
As far as tactics I haven't had that much luck getting them killed in chaos. The are just too tough and their merc tends to hold things down till they drop. In baal I've had the most luck on the third wave. I pop the magic dots about a second before they drop so the preemptive hammer cloud is disrupted. It works ok still I only see about a 50% success on getting them killed before they drop. I've tried all other waves and they don't work as good.
I haven't ran into many bots that don't break on the "......" but I've noticed that all the ones that are immune are running chaos. Coincidence? Maybe.
Sadly this is pretty much all there is to do in the game anymore as the whole game list is bots now.

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

I get them killed in chaos.

All the bots seem to do the seals in the same order as everyone else.
Left, centre, right.
Make sure the dots are typed in and when the bot starts on the right side, run in and pop the baddy seal, hit enter, run and watch the fun.

Either instant time out or fairly quick death.

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

Just killed a 98 hdin bot in a chaos. God it feels good to finally be doing something about all the bots.

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

Might I add that this is by far the most efficient method of amassing gold? Bots seem to drop gold in the 6-figures when PK'd.

After killing about 5-6 bots in quick succession, I have full gold in stash and 6-figure amount on my person, so I make a new game and gamble it away, which also allows me to "cool down" and avoid temp ban. It's surreal how quickly I can go through gambled amulets and circlets this way :) IMHO, only a fully-decked out goldfind barb "might" match the speed of getting so much gold in such a short time (and twice the fun!).

Then again, the downside is that I haven't MF'd at all in the last 4 hours, since I killed my first bot.

This is the exact reason I retired my gold find barb :whistling:

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

I sence a new 'Gambling Botkiller' Guide coming?

I've been (not MF'ing) killing bot after bot and have been keeping note of some quirks that might factor into a successful bot kill. HerPall's the man with the guide, so not necessarily a guide but I'll try to share some of my experience once I work out a more consolidated pattern.

I've also been stimulating the US East chat channel with the virtues of bot-hunting and telling people to google "project botears." And D2 players seem excited by the prospect of going after bots in a way that yields profit, and to have something new to do since everything else in this game has been beaten twice to death. Spread the word. This needs to catch on. I noticed that bot-hunting is apparently a thing in WoW community with many videos on YouTube. Let's show them that the guardians of Sanctuary are just as vigilant as the sentinels of Azeroth.

I love it! :D

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

Just one more little piece of information - there are many bot games which are not called "baalrunXX" or "dia-baal-XX" or "chaosrun_XX". I like to visit games with fake names like "O-ber-N ist-03" or "FreeIfWait06" or simply "Tommy-34" etc. These are usually run by paladin bots, they will usually not invite you to party and therefore it is more funny to hunt them, then spam the screen and kill. When I can't find the bot, I try to spam the screen and hope to be lucky, and sometimes sweet message "TommyTheBigHammer has been killed by Nilathak" apperas :)

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

You'd need a pass for that. Couple times botters noticed I was killing their bots and remade with passwords. I just continued to kill them and they were going "wtf? how did you crack my pass?" (both times the pass was "1"...)

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

Has anybody been messaged by people running the bots? I think that would be hilarious.

I'll probably sound dumb here, but I used to go into those baalrun games started by the bots all the time and I thought they were actual players.

I also wrote down the names of all the sites that bots were spamming ingame about and sent each one an email telling them they were breaking the Terms Of Service and needed to stop spamming. Somehow it didn't work! WTF? It was the perfect plan, what went wrong?

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

How could you? They're private games. :scratchchin:

Many of the bot scripts have been updated now for this trick btw. Bots have gotten a lot more sophisticated lately. There are even free rusher bots nowadays, and the Baalrun bots tell you the composition of mobs, congratulate you on level-up, and even tell jokes. I guess the last players of D2 will be lvl 99 Paladin bots... An ignominous end for a game with such a long legacy.

Re: Project BotEars - A bot killing guide

I just killed a bot twice today. Does anyone have an idea how to kill them in throne room? I cant enter the tp, and when i make tp inside it closes once I declare hostile

Too bad many bot users got smarter with dropping time -,.- or taking advantages from

:D So~ *Req.: Enigma*
(1) Party & enter the bot's TP (If you don't know the Wave #)
(2) From Throne Teleport back to Worldstone
Or...
(1A) Don't party... (If you know the Wave #: New-game)
(2A) Teleport to Throne and TP back to Arreat
(3) Type "... ...."
(4) Hostile the bot and Teleport back to Throne ASAP
(5) PK the bot (Don't underestimate bot's mercenary & etc...)

As noble as this productive movement is trying to be, it's -never- followed to code. Hostilers can't help but kill off the entire group, even if it's composed of 80s, 50s, or hell, even that 23 that just came from Nightmare no more than 10 minutes ago. Because of people trying to be Blizzards security force or something, everybody dies in the name of white knighting.
