OT - Your most memorable video games of all time?

Old-school:

Doom - first time seeing this in action was amazing. I actually managed to find every secret in the shareware game without being spoiled.

Ultima 6 - first RPG I played, and had a great storyline.

Ultima 7 - more of the same I guess, but it looked nicer and there was so much to do in the game.

Space Harrier - one of the first games I played, with great graphics and fast-paced gameplay.

Super Mario Bros. 3 - great level design, cool graphics and lots of secrets.

Recent:

Ninja Gaiden - very difficult but worth every bit of time you put in.

Doom 3 - Not really complex, but craploads of atmosphere and some of the most nailbiting blasting action in a long time.

Colony before I read your post I was about to put Secret of Mana. That was, and still is my favorite game of all time. Did you know that the spell graphics change when they reach level 9.9?
I thought you could only get spells up to lvl 8.99? The only one I can remember is that fireball goes all funny at that lvl.

And I cant believe I forgot LOTR2, I feel really stupid now, I loved that game...

I'm almost 23, and I've been playing games for about 15 years or so. Here are the ones that stuck out for me

Atari: Don't remember playing any Atari games, Nes was my first system

Nes:
Final Fantasy Awesome game, figther rocks, go go sword-chucks :winner:
Mario 2 I liked the game, but it was all a damn dream
Contra Who didn't like this game? Spread gun rules

Snes:
Final Fantasy IV My favorite so far, Rydia is cool
Final Fantasy VI Highly touted game, there are two songs that always remind me of this game, Desert Rose by Sting, I was trying to find Gogo when I heard this song. I also like county music, Long Black Train by Josh Turner always makes me think of Ghost Train
Secret of Mana A two player RPG with a good story line

PC:
Eye of the Beholder II Legend of Darkmoon Knew a little about hexidecimal so I hacked all my charicters. Level 13 after six fights, never beat it, but I enjoyed it.
Wolfinstien (Sp?) My first FPS
Doom II I still know the clipping code, but I don't know what it stands for. IDSPISPOPD, what does that mean? IDKFA is Id (maker) Keys Full Ammo
Diablo Still wish they had carried over the "cross class" skills. I want might fighter to have flame wave like he did in Diablo
Diablo II Still going strong, now if only my luck from Bnet can hold up on single player
Amulet of Yonder(?) A text game I used to play in Jr High, wish I could find it on the net

I guess thats about it for old games.

OT: Goobergrape, you need to come to the Green side of Magic. I know that Hammer comes back, but it will never hold a candle to Derranged Hermit. Bow down to the squirrels :worship:

Secret of Mana! I can't believe we made it the 4th page before that one came up. Even third page for Chrono Trigger.

Other Favs:
Street Fighter 2
MK 2 (best of the series)
Diablo 1 (There will never be another even like it. D2 is still a long hop from D1).
Duck Hunt
Old Power Pad NES games (Track and Field)

EDIT: Zelda: A Link to the Past!

crg

Greatest games of all time IMO:
The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past :D
Super Mario Bros: 3
The first FF released in the US
Tetris for the NES! (Cant...stop...playing...)

I've heard Secret of Mana is a great game, is there a downloadable version I could download? I would really love to play it.

Final Fantasy 3. (6 for the japanese count)

What mister Nighfish said. :) Best. Game. Ever. :worship:

Also Ogre Battle. I've been playing this game since June (and also when I was younger) and it never lead me down. I'm at my fifth game, it's always awesome. Starting out with mere fighters and amazons and becoming full Paladins and Muses and Monks, plus all the special character with each of their storyline, it's awesome. It's at the top with FF3.

Lotsa great games from you guys!

My standouts include (in no particular order and probably missing some):

Marathon (boo @ HowitzerAl for missing this one. ;))
Most of the FF's
Prince of Persia
Tristan (pinball)
Jackal (NES)
Baseball Stars (NES)
SSX 2
Descent
Mario 3
Perfect Dark
Chrono Trigger/Cross
Oregon Trail (the Apple ][ version)
Zelda 64
Tales of Symphonia (instant classic, IMHO)
Unreal Tournament
American McGee's Alice
Diablo 1 and 2

A lot of Commodore 64 fans! You don't happen to post on Lemon do you? :-p

I loved the Creatures games on the Commodore 64. They were rather... Sick and twisted. Probably explains a lot about me now... However, the one game that I will always remember because it touched me so... Final Fantasy VII. Nothing can ever beat that game. Ever. Ahhhh... Aeris. *sniffles*

 I posted about it in my first post in this thread (post #5)

I feel like dusting off my SNES now, but I dont have it with me, its 200 miles away. And an emulator just doesnt have the same feel to it, I need the gamepad and a dusty TV screen to make it feel right

Other Games are the whole Baldurs Gate Series (which is my favorite game, still today) and FF IX. Yes, IX. Ive played from, 6 onwards, every FF. None of them in my Opinion had the charm of IX, and I just loved the character cast.

One Last one to mention a FF Tactics on PS1...a masterpiece
