OT - Your most memorable video games of all time?

Final Fantasy 3. (6 for the japanese count)

I was hoping -someone- would say that.

Aside from that, the only other game I still remember vividly, with a white-hot burning rage....

E.T. for the Atari.

Enough said, I think...

My amstrad pcw 8256, which had a beautiful green screen, which i assume meant that they could pretend that it was a colour screen, even though there ws only 1 of them, had some of the best games ever on it. Pacman, Frogger and loads of other games.

Then my spectrum, which was the disk drive version had some cool games, which i cant remember, but it was my master system that hooked me onto games forever. Sonic really was the best game ever. And alex the kidd was pretty fun, alongside wonder boy in monsterland. Amusingly i was playing the emulator version of wonder boy in monsterland the other day and for some unknown reason i had the feeling that i really wanted to jump at a particular place in the game and it opened up a secret coin. Ahh, i havent played that game for about 10 years, when i was 7, yet its still permenantly burnt into my brain. Scary. Do video games affect us? Nah....

Yea i have to say that i burned many hours on Alex the kid ^_^ Awesome game! Though any kind of save game feature eventually (after years) put me off

It was that damn paper scissors stone game at the end of every level that got me. Although there was a way to win, it was so annoying!

Ah, what a beautiful OT post... Seeing how I'm 35, and I think I got an atari 2600 when I was about 10, that'd make for 25 years of pretty much solid gaming. I probably should get a dna test on my kids when I get home now that I think about it.

Highlights:

Atari 2600

Adventure!
Defender
Indiana Jones
Yar's Revenge

(I had to get a 2600 on eBay last year with about 200 games it rocks)

Arcade:

Star Wars
Berzerk
Robotron
Galaga
and of course... Gauntlet

Apple:

Ultima / Ultima II / Ultima III

PC:

Rogue / Angband
Civ I
Doom
Duke Nukem
Sam and Max hit the road

about 100 more before I get up to Diablo II :winner:

Yea i remember that, it got to me aswell. I remember some kind of forest/jungle area, wasnt so difficult but getting passed the end game was horribly difficult. Not as bad as the castle level, though

Ooooh so many awesome old games:
Arcade:
Galaga--I played for 55 minutes on 1 quarter once, wrapped the score display!
Super Buster Brothers--anyone else heard of this one? You had to shoot big bouncing bubbles.
Star Wars
Rampage

PC:
Lords of the Realm 2

Mac:
Civilization 2
Dungeon of Doom
Dark Castle
Armor Alley

Wow, people after my own heart. Really I couldn't possibly pick a favorite but here are a few of the tops.

Atari 2600
Yars Revenge (my first love)
Indiana Jones
(Ahab - I didn't think anyone else knew Indiana Jones existed or like Yars Revenge)

Nintendo
Final Fantasy And Metal Gear (no number on either)
As far as Final fantasy goes, Everything GooberGrape says, except maybe the tattoo. This one probably gets the number one spot.

Others
Warcraft 2
My first network multiplayer game.

Grand Theft Auto 3 (I can drive around for hours making up so many different mini-games its great.

Oh, and Diablo 2 is working its way up there.

Dragon Warrior and Tetris for NES.
Tecmo Super Bowl for SNES. You could get some insane QB ratings with that.
Heroes of Might and Magic III for PC.

And as some proof of how the atmosphere got a bit too intense at times, listen to this music from the machine level, scarily named "Welcome to the Machine", since the machine was a digestion machine for the alien queen... and instead of controlling the screen, IT controls YOU, causing you to have to avoid the walls as it moves you around, and you have to work out where its going to go so you don't get squashed (and it was VERY hard to do that since it splits at some points, causing you to guess, and even doubled back on itself sometimes too)

I never made it past the machine part. After the millionth attept, I just gave up. Oh well.. btw, Toejam and Earl was the BOMB!

Hehe, I say that every time somebody posts this thread. :) Small surprise, given my avatar and all. :D Usually I also list a lot of other great games but after the 4th time I'm just too lazy... ^_^

Some favorites in no particular order

Master of Magic
Yars revenge
Wizardry
Golden Axe
Phantasy Star 2
Goldeneye

Speaking of Master of Magic...anyone have any ideas where I could get a working copy of the game?

Colony before I read your post I was about to put Secret of Mana. That was, and still is my favorite game of all time. Did you know that the spell graphics change when they reach level 9.9?

Coming in short second Final Fantasy II.

I downloaded it from the internet a few months ago complete with the latest patch and strategy guide. I can check when I get home if I can find where, or if you can handle large files in your email, I could try to mail it.

OK, this might win the "ancient computer game" prize. When I was 4 or so, a little while before Atari came out, my father--who worked at Bell Labs--brought home a computer. There was no monitor, just a built-in printer that put out text on a huge roll of paper. The game was the original "Adventure." Anyway, I can still vividly remember being completely enthralled, sitting around the kitchen table with my dad, while that monstrous suitcase of a computer spat out text every time we made a move. Good times, good times. Now he's addicted to Morrowind :D

IMO probably the greatest RPG game ever, Chrono Trigger is the game that realy touched my heart and will forever remain there, played it recently as I was able to acquire a rom. Realy, bow down to Square

How the heck did I manage to forget Ultima 7 in my list earlier? That game was HUGE, and had a much darker story than the other Ultimas--I mean, you were finding ritually dismembered corpses all over the place!

Sir Lister, sorry to disappoint, but the keyboard isn't very redefinable in the full version of X2 either. Mind you, if the game didn't have occasional user interface flaws, I'd probably never play anything else! :)

Atari:
Adventure (even found the hidden rooms & the dot)

Commodore64/Amiga/PC:

Evil (Amiga version only)
Worms (Amiga version only)
Summer/Winter Olympics
Adventure Construction Set
Pinball Dreams
Prince of Persia
Jumpman
Ultima IV
Gauntlet
Dungeon Keeper1
Lords of the Realm2
Lords of Magic:SE
Heroes Might&Magic 2&3
Civilization 2&3
Need for Speed4
Sacred
Never Winter Nights
Diablo
Diablo2

Arcade:
Dungeons & Dragons - (something) Tower (something)
Gauntlet

Ahhh... this brings back memmories of when I was about 4 or so and my father (who worked at Bell Labs) brought home a huge terminal we plugged the phone into and I sat on his lap and played Adventure, sitting at the kitchen table. It printed text onto a very thin roll of sheet paper. Great times, great times.
