OT - Your most memorable video games of all time?

On that note, does anyone know of a good site to d/l Snes/Nes Emulators and Roms? I did a Google search and tried a few sites but they were either full of cartoon pr0n, didn't work or were in a foreign language and normally a combination of all 3.

actually finding a site that both advertises *and* actually has nes/snes games can be quite hard indeed, and I'm being polite.

I do know of one, it's in french and has a delay between downloads, but it does have all the Nes/Snes roms you could possibly want. http://www.planetemu.net/

I have another, http://www.romnation.net/, but that one has a lot of "rom is IDSA Protected and not available for download" crap on the popular franchises. It has the same list of roms (for nes and snes at least) and no delays but the IDSA thing makes it more of a pain.

good gaming

Wow, I remember playing echo has a kid, man that game rocked. It was the one where you were a dolphin right?

As for my fav games I'd have to go with snes classics. I've tried all the new systems but everything is crap. Even my little brother spends more time on my snes playing with my catridges then he does on his ps2 with gta3 and need 4 speed. Can you blame him?

As a child, during the late 80's I was practically raised by italian plumbers

Cheers man, are the games in French or English?

Might and Magic 6, Heros of Might and Magic 2
Command and Conquer the original one
Eye of the Beholder, Bards Tale
Impossible Mission 2

Many others I can't remember now.

-Gauntlet

Greatest arcade game ever (though Joust was a close 2nd) Fou chars - Mage, Warrior, Ranger and Valkyre worked their way through endless levels collecting treasure. I can still hear it saying "Valkyre needs food badly."

I pumped so much money into this stinking game. I absolutely loved it, and now the game sits in my basement. :uhhuh:

Depends on which ones you choose to download. They have the Japanese (J), North American (U), and European (E) releases of games. So yeah some of the games can be in French if there was a europe release, but most games that did come out in NA will have the (U) version which I assume is what you're looking for.

Edit: I just realised I didn't answer the emulator part of your original question. I'd suggest http://www.zophar.net/ for all your emulator needs.

Freeway on the Atari...
LOL. Despite raising me (a game nut, obviously) through roughly 15 years of gaming before I left for college, if you asked my mother what video games she remembered, you would get exactly...

1. Pac-Man
2. "The Chicken Crossing The Road Game"

For some reason, Freeway just really stuck in her head and it always makes me chuckle.

As for myself, I've got lots of favorites of different eras, but I'd guess that SimCity (the original), Pool of Radiance, and Civ 2 were particularly memorable to me. Interesting that those are all relatively modern and all PC - I've played consoles since the Atari, but somehow none of those games grabbed me in the same way.

And, of course, D2 still takes the cake. There's no other game that I've played almost constantly for over 4 years.

We were a bit late getting a computer, but i still remember the sound of the commodore games loading from tape when I was at a friends house.
First games I really played were Wolfenstein and Civilization. Then Command and Conquer, Master of Magic followed by Diablo 2.

Tecmo Super Bowl (for the SNES)
Golden Axe (first game I ever played, Genesis)
Civilization II (I played that more than any game ever, including diablo)
Heroes of might and magic II/III
Mechwarrior 2/3
Earthbound (SNES)
Half-life obviously, and mods/expansion packs
Age of empires (especially 1 for me, I didn't get into 2)
Sim City/Ant/Farm
Worms Armagheddon (spelling..)
Atomino (weird one, I wonder if anyone else here knows about this. Edit: http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?name=Atomino Thinking about this game made me want to play it.. right away.. and now I am going to)

and of course

Diablo 1

Final Fantasy.

Bought it when it came out for NES. Still play FFO (PS remake).

It has made such a lasting positive impression upon my life, I'm getting a tattoo of Fighter...once I find a guy willing and able to do pixel art.

For me it's Elite (the original), although I haven't played it in ages, instead I play Frontier: First Encounters (or Elite 3 as it is also known). Elite 4 must be the game I'm most waiting for, it's again said to be in development and maybe to be released next year or the year thereafter (the first time I heard about this sequel, was with a tentative release date in 1998).
Compared to newer space games, Elite has of course distinctly older graphics, stilll, imho it does look better than Frontier: Elite 2 released about ten years later. The most important thing about Elite which does place it above it's sequels is however the simple in flight controls, I really like being only able to roll sidewards and dive or climb, no strafing. The ability to dock manually is a thing I'm missing in a game like Freelancer. Being chased by about half the galaxy's pirate and/or police force and then simply docking (manually) at full speed to get to safety...for a while, no matter how irrealistic, is just great.
Another classic (although about ten years younger than the above) I've played way too much is Doom / Doom2.

Memorable video games? WAY too many to list in full, but here's some of my highlights:

TIE Fighter (Best Space Combat Sim EVAR!!!)
Planescape: Torment
Fallout 2
Outcast (some of the best non-3D accelerated 3D graphics you'll ever see)
Might and Magic 6
X2: The Threat (space trading sim, in case you've never heard of it)

Oh, and one from my Amiga days:
Captive (command 4 robots to rescue you from your cell).

Hmm, the farthest thing I can reach in my memory deposits is Captain Keen. Then later there were the Kyrandias (RIP Sierra). The next memoral stop is the Civilization (looks like Sid Meyer was kind of a corner stone for most of us). Then came Heroes I and II and III and IV... Good thing Diablo came in the way between III and IV, otherwise I might still be Heroes-stuck.
Of course, there were lots of other games in the route, those are just my most beloved ones. Can you believbe where the gaming industry brought us, in the span of mere 15 years or so?! :surprise:

The first video game I ever played was Pong. You can't beat the graphics on that game.

The game that comes in a close second to Diablo II for me is Master of Magic.

X2: The Threat

I'm still trying to pick that one up, but have yet to find it in any shop. I did play the demo a bit though, but there was a bit of a problem with the keys and I could not change them, I hope that won't be in the final game.

rock and roll racing on the snes. me and my bro could play that for days at a time. oh god the best racer game EVER. still

Ah, the memories...

PC:
* Thief and Thief II (I still play them, thanks to the multitude of excellent fan-made missions)
* Planescape: Torment (best RPG story ever!)
* Baldur´s Gate I and II (these game were like the ultimate gaming dream for me when I played them for the first time)
* The Wheel of Time (very innovative and beautiful FPS-like game)
* The Curse of Monkey Island & Escape from Monkey Island (classics!)

Amiga:
* Eye of the Beholder (and its sequel EoB II: The Legend of Darkmoon) (Amazing games for the RPG fan who likes puzzles)
* Superfrog (beautiful and very fun arcade game)
* Globdule (hey, come on, in what other game can you be a pink blob who can jump!?)
* Monkey Island II: LeChucks Revenge (classic!)
* Pinball Dreams (the breakthough release for the swedish gaming company Digital Illusions, a pinball game that is still awesome, many years later)

C64:
* The Last Ninja I, II and III (Classics!)
* TRAZ (TRansformable Arcade Zone) (Still the best Breakout-type game I have seen, with an excellent built-in construction kit so you can build your own playing areas.)
* Hat Trick (very simple hockey game (you had one player and a goalie) that is very fun to play against a friend)
* Paradroid (innovative arcade game)

The Curse of Monkey Island!!!
Against all odds, I almost forgot that one! :cheesy:
That reminds me, has anyone out there ever played Discworld (1 & 2) and finished them without spoilers?
