After being a pretty big fan of the album Silent Shout (tracks this, that the other and the ugly (though no promises that this link works) especially)...
I recently "discovered" an earlier album called Deep Cuts by The Knife. I'd heard it once a while ago and scoffed, but it's not nearly as bad as my first impression led me to believe. The music's kind of simple at times, but it surprised me. I like "One For You" a LOT. "Got 2 Let U" is pretty cool, too (totally weird video, though!). This album's like what I thought Crystal Castles would have been: sounds simplistic like some old school video games, doesn't use annoying 8-bit samples, and waaaay less shouting.
-Sponge-Wax Ecstatic (Acoustic version)
-Sponge-Plowed (Live version)
-A Perfect Circle - Fiddle and the Drum
-A Perfect Circle - What's Going On
-Soundgarden - Rusty Cage
-Soundgarden - Spoonman
-Soundgarden - Burden in my Hand
-Velvet Revolver - The Last Fight (Acoustic version)
-Tool - Stinkfist (Live, Extended version [I think the variations on Stinkfist are some of the band's best work])
Right now, nothing but I recently listened to Metallica - Fade to Black (listening to Ride the lightning album and got to work in the middle of Fade). I usually listen to either much harder music (death/black metal) or much much softer music (singer/songwriter) but sometimes nostalgia does strange things to you (Metallica was my favourite band when I was in the lower teens).
Most recently I've been listening to the album "Who's Next" by The Who. Top shelf. The album includes their best song, in my view, Won't Get Fooled Again.
After chilling to a Crystal Method mix album and following it up with Mobb Deep's debut album, I come across this awesome D&B track on a very eclectic day for musical taste.
Technically you are ofc absolutely right I use "gothic" in a much broader sense, since I've never met a "gothic" who didn't love Ataraxia. Nice pick btw
