OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Does this game have third party authentication yet? Meaning, do you get a code on your phone or an app to log into the game?

World of Warcraft has this. Steam has this. Using only an email account is not enough these days. When emails get hacked GGG won't do anything to help. I say this from first person experience. I stopped playing because of that and it left a very bad taste in my mouth about the game and the developers.

You can make your account through steam, which depending on your settings in steam has 2fa.

I log in with the non-steam client and I've never had a problem. If you log in from a foreign IP it asks for a code from your email, which itself should have 2fa and a unique password, making your account safe.

But what I'm saying is that if the bad guys have hacked your email, which with Yahoo, used to be extremely easy, (it's harder now since Yahoo moved to a code texted to your phone) they receive that email and then have the code. Then they can log into the game and steal your stuff. Anyway, that happened and I was pissed so I stopped playing. It happened in a few hours time while I was out and wasn't watching.

I tried to get my account rolled back through a connection I have to GGG but they politely declined. So, if things have changed and they text a code to your phone, or you enter a code generated like Steam or Blizzard uses from their apps then maybe I'd consider playing again. But starting over doesn't sound very exciting.

What's funny is that I stopped playing with 1337 hours played.

I'll be playing some. How much or little remains to be seen. Logged into my account this weekend and it was still there after ~1 year of absence so that was nice.

Saw a vid going over several cheaper leaguestarter builds. Some of them looked like they could be fun so i'll have to check those out a bit further to see what i wanna start with.

If any of you is seeking for an active and friendly PoE guild, so you can play with other people, I can strongly advice the Amazon Basin guild. Very helpful bunch, and the Guild Leader, Mark, is a great guy.

There is also a purediablo.com guild. I am starting over in Betrayal so I'll be in game more than I was for the last year or so.

Sorry didn't know that. I certainly didn't want to pull players from the SPF to the Basin guild. Sincere apologies.

Don't worry about it. People can join whichever guild they want and like. Now they have a choice. :)

@Cyrax, can you link to those league starter vids you saw?

These are the main two i've been watching:

Both have 10+ builds in them, so in the vids themself they only briefly cover the builds. But both have links in the descriptions that lead to more extensive info on the builds in case there's one/some that you like.

Build guides themselves are usually not updated to 3.5 (yet?) but from what i got from the vids is that most if not all of it should still work in the upcoming patch.

I'll be playing as well! I'm almost always on Discord voice when I'm playing, so if anyone likes to chat while playing they can join. The people I mostly play with are all really friendly and like to help people learn the game, and we're all more or less encyclopedias on PoE so we can help learn as you play if you want.

kestegs#0592 on Discord, send me a friend request and I can invite you to the server I use.

After all this chatter about the expansion and seeing some footage, I'm so tempted to give PoE another whirl as well. I still have it installed as a matter of fact. It's just that I'm still enjoying my two 99er characters so much, that I'm not sure I want to take a break from D2. Decisions, decisions, ... :(.

Played some yesterday. Just enough to finish the first act.

Seems like there were people speedrunning. Kept seeing messages of x is the first to reach y in rather quick succession. Not to mention that when i quit i was like lvl 13 and i saw a message of someone being the first to reach lvl 58 just before that.

I did get kicked from the server for a bit. Message said that it was due to an unexpected amount of people. Apparently over 50% more than last league start. So i got placed in a queue around place 26.000.

Will be continuing somewhere today.

I might return, I might not. But if I do, what would be a good SC starter build? I prefer to play self-found and have never traded in PoE, I'm not sure it's realistic to get to endgame content that way? But if it is, what would be the best build for it? I prefer fast paced characters over slower, hard hitting ones, and don't really like kiting. I tend not to like pet based builds, but who knows someone will prove me wrong :).

Thanks in advance !!

Edit: I just found this totem based build, which seems a lot of fun, and what I'm looking for when it comes to the easy starter, self-found aspect. I know it isn't really in line with what I said earlier about my build preferences, but hey, I've never ever played a totem build in PoE, so maybe that's why :). Any ideas how viable this build is?

Edit 2: or this self cast Arc build? Sigh, too many options already ...

I'm still open to other suggestions obviously !!

Here you can see the ladder for builds in solo-self-found. Currently I have a lvl 84 juggernaut molten striker, which works well without any uniques. Strong single-target and decent clear and very tanky. Impossible to die in normal content and very tanky in late game boss fights.

Saboteur arc trapper is apparently the best build to start with. You get huge damage increase from adding the mine(or trap? idk never played this) support gem to arc. Works very well untwinked and carries you to end game high tier maps.

The Arc skill is rather brokenly powerful right now, it should have gotten nerfed this patch, that's why so many people are playing it. Self cast, totems, or traps/mines are all good.

Totem Heirophant is good with almost any spell and is a great starter for SSF. I did a spark totem heirophant in SSF league 2 seasons ago and killed Shaper with it, so it's very doable. It really just comes down to understanding the game for the most part.

I'm playing a pathfinder viper striker who is lvl 87 now. It's a very fun league so far with lots of good changes and tons of content.

There is a ton of content. Some people complaining that there is too much content. But there's always some who will complain about everything.

I am playing a CA Ranger/Raider at the moment. Only level 35 or so right now since I don't have that much time to play. But it's a fun build. Hopefully it can survive maps when I get there.

That totem build looks like the one i played last time before i quit PoE. I got to doing lvl 7-9 maps before i quit (also SSF). Had i taken the time to grind it's possible it could've gone beyond that. I don't really know as that was/is my highest PoE char so far.

Totems, just like mines, are an acquired taste. You either like it or you don't. Personally i like totems, but i totally dislike mines.

There's a slightly different totem build in one of those 2 vids i recently linked. As is that arc build you linked. Which is one i considered to go for. I ended up with blade vortex though. Now just reached act 4 i think, so i'm not that far yet, but all is well thus far.

My thoughts so far:
- Encountered some beastmaster which i don't think is new for this patch, but he is for me. I have no idea what i'm doing with him except collecting animals.
- Betrayal is also pretty much just doing something and hoping for the best. I found them to be a decent challenge in the first act, but they quickly got stronger after. I was having no problem with regular content, but i did have to watch out for those. They also caused my only 2 deaths so far.
- Did my first delve yesterday (also not new for this league) and it looks like that could be fun.

The beast master can help you craft at the Blood Alter thing. Haven't done it yet though. Just been collecting animals with him. He actually does some damage so it is nice to have him around at times. Talk to him and ask to go to the menagerie. Then tour that place and you'll find the alter thing plus all of the animals you caught together.

What I am reading and noticing about the Betrayal thing is that if you bargain with them and let them go rather than interrogate they will get stronger. But also the next time you encounter them and kill them their rewards are better. I also think that interrogating them will help you gain more information and get you to the safehouses faster, thus gaining more rewards more quickly. I think. Still in Act three so not entirely sure but this is how I see it so far.
