OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

I'm sucked back into Poe, this is my third go at it. So far I like the Ranger using Lightning Arrow and a bit of Rain of Arrows, better then any other characters i've tried. Just starting act 3.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Speaking of RoA, I really liked a RoA marauder. 7 aurae, blood magic for RoA and no out-of-mana-crap whatsoever.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Had my first death today. Despite having some close calls this wasn't even my fault.

Today already started out bad. Previously i've only had like 1 minor glitch every couple of hours worth of playing. Today there were major lagspikes everywhere and i even got disconnected 5 times. If it were hardcore i would've stopped early on. Since i wasn't i played on. Eventually it got me killed. And almost immediately after again since i was still angry at how i died the first time i rushed back into that place and died again.

Now why would anyone prefer offline playing when you can have an always online mode? /sarcasm

Btw are witches any good? Really liking my marauder, but thinking about also starting a witch since i like casters. Although i'm not sure i will in PoE. The skill gems i saw haven't really convinced my (yet). Or maybe there's a good support char? Than i can try playing my [STRIKE]barb[/STRIKE] marauder single play and use the witch for some multiplay.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

I like ice spear or freezing pulse w/ lesser multiple projectiles. FP scales better for questing, though, and can get you through the entire game.

I'm in a1Merc now and I'm just starting to use coldsnap on my hybrid cold/snap firestorm build. Very fun freezing the entire screen!

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

The safe bet is a sporker for the witch. Dual totems, ice spear with power charge on crit. I'm considering starting one of those. CI based builds are better, or rather safer, than life based builds since you can get much higher ES than life. You can get decent MF on that build as well I think.

Zerged myself t a reduced mana gem with the marauder today. The new Weaver is no joke! I'm glad I don't play hardcore. ;)

Edit: You start the sporker as a FP witch and switch to ancestral bond in fellshrine merciless I think. Again, heard it on stream and have no personal experience with it, but there are a couple of guides out there.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

After getting the marauder through the second act i´ve started not one but 2 witches yesterday. One will be focusing on cold, the other on summoning.

In case anyone is interested in mp, their respective names are FearTheBanished and UnderworldMagic. (in case i'm not responding i'm either afk or trying to figure out how to respond to a message :D)

I decided to give this a whirl after hearing everyone on here talk about it. It looks great but my game is super choppy and has terrible lags. I'm assuming it is supposed to have smooth gameplay. Something I can do to fix this? I also posted on their support forum. Nothing is ever easy.

I love the premise.

Try turning your video settings down, especially make sure and turn shadows off. It is a fairly graphics/CPU intensive game though, how good is your computer?

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Typing in the command /oos (synchronises with the server) will sometimes help a bit too.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

One I'll get back into PoE. I've been playing D3 fairly solidly, and it's a bit hard to play two ARPG's at the same time and give them the attention they need.

Some parts of their code are pretty unoptimized - I played Cowards Trial map with a friend who has a really powerful computer (this powerful). And when the place was really crowded with the undead, he was really emotional and unhappy about the choppiness and lags he started to get.

On topic - yeah, turning shadows off is a big deal when you have performance issues in PoE.

I wonder if this thread still lives.
I hope it does.

I've been off PoE for quite some time. I've been away from Wraeclast for like a year by the moment of the afficial release of the game (beta -> production).

Recently I was looking for some random stuff on the google and stumbled upon some PoE picture and immediately a soft clean voice in my head (well, one of them. ahem.) said "tala moana, marauder of Ngamakanui".

And I remembered that I still have a lvl 81 marauder.
I'd like to give the guy a chance to play his muscles once more. But I noticed that
- passive skill web is totally revamped
- aurae are nerfed (I remember to carry 6 or 7 aurae at the same time, and now their mana reservation amounts look horrible, I won't be able to carry more than 3 or 4 at best).
- there's a crapload of new skill gems, a new class, a new boss, a new formula of accounting flee and def with Iron Reflexes and def+flee passives.

I'm a bit lost. I have a bunch of questions answers to which would be really helpful for me to get some directions in modern Wraeclast.
First, some general questions.
1). Is the game still about +life items and passives? What is a good amount of life I should strive for on a life based build?
Same about energy shield for ES based build (with and without CI).
2). What is a minimum amount of DPS I should aim for? At what point do I change grind-to-survive to grind-to-improve?
3). Is the def formula still the same? Like, the more damage comes in one hit, the less reduction is.
4). Is flee reliable enough to build a flee dependant character and push him into a lvl70+ map?
5). Is the Covenant aurae trick still in game?

Then, a couple of more specific questions.
I mentioned a lvl 81 marauder.
I have a free full respec (115 skillpoints to use, booya!).
I have the following gear:

- Rare pure physical bow (1.74 aps, 64-188 damage, 5L+1)
- Blackgleam cured quiver
- 578 flee 3L+1 tricorn with resists and +84 life
- 494/494 hybrid 5L armor with resists and +74 life
- 124/124 hybrid 4L gloves with resists and +71 life
- 353 def 4L boots with resists and +79 life
- rare belt with 200+ def and +85 life
- +life and resists and whatever jewellery
- the Covenant.

I was using a RoA build back then - RoA + faster attacks + weapon elemental damage + concentated effect + blood magic, that was my setup.

So um.. I'd really appreciate if someone helped me to build a proper RoA marauder with blood magic gems that would be descent with my current items (for now). I'm really afraid to screw the character up, 'cause I'll definitely have neither time no patience to build a character anew.
I tried to look for proper builds on official PoE forum, but what I found was a number of threads with OP's question and zero replies, and a bunch of pre-release threads.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure how active things are here wrt POE.

I'll try and answer a few questions though I am far from an expert and mainly just play casually.

1) Your best bet is still building defensively and go from there. Defensively can be more life, armour, evasion, energy shield etc but also with your auras, curses and links to skills. You also have cast when damage taken gems now as well which you can link defensive skills to. As far as life to aim for it does vary with builds. I have a dual strike shadow that is level 87 and has just under 4k life but can handle most things dual to massive leech and Vaal Pact. I also have a reave duelist I am building which at level 67 has 4.1K life but feels a lot squishier due to the lack of instant leech. I would say aim for around 5K life and a bit less for energy shield (I think my lvl 72 freezing pulse witch had 4.5K from memory).

2) DPS really varies from build to build and I haven't played a bow build so not sure what a RoA would aim for. My shadow does 40K DPS which seems like massive overkill for most places the dueslist is at 13K which so far has been fine but haven't hit maps yet. For melee I'd look for over 10K not sure about bow user though.

3) Yep, I think so. The way evaision works it is to me certainly better than armour against large damage dealers (of course assuming you don't get OHKO by the damage).

4) Not sue sorry.

5) You mean snapshotting? Yes it still works but "rumour" is it will be removed in the near future.

Hope that is some help but take the answers with a grain of salt.

As a bump, this game has really snagged my interest these days, as the latest patches and expansions (yay crafting!) have elevated this game to an elite level. I even came off the cash to get some extra inventory pages.

It gets really grindy leveling in maps in the 80's. A death to desync at that level (sometimes not your fault) means hours of really repetitive play lost. I made 87 with self-found tornado shot ranger before I just needed a break. I guess I'm still kinda mad about it.

But yeah, the game has depth of mechanics. It's the most D2-like of modern arpgs that I have seen. I got tired of sticking LMP/GMP on everything and was trying out some other builds. Many things can beat the story mode. I made a really tanky templar who used shield charge and leap slam, to hell with desync! Without Immortal Call I don't think he would last long though.

Yep, I'm still mad about it. So anyway, what build are you playing?
