OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Loved my Hideout, had problems with pure crit based game play, though.
Bought a great 2-H for 5 exalts.. only to find out 2-handers were (are) underwhelmed.
No block, no crit (RT-based) was not good..
Boss fights were spectacular, truth be told.

So anyway, what build are you playing?

The build I got to Merciless with is a Puncture/Split Arrow Ranger, but I actually have put Tornado Shot on my mouse wheel button and I'm incredibly impressed with it. I put a Lesser Multiple Projectiles as support and it is making me think maybe that should have been my #1 skill all along.

I also am working through Normal with a Glacial Cascade Witch and a Melee (Cleave/Double Strike) Scion. I like the Witch better between those two.

I know I will come back and play PoE when Act 4 comes out! D2 until then, though =)

Edit: oops, I was supposed to call it Path of Cone-Shaped AoE

@RobbyD - Split Arrow is good, too. That's what I was using before Tornado Shot was added. Now I use Split Arrow to curse with Curse on Hit/Assassin's Mark since I am gradually adding more crit chance to my build. Glacial Cascade does sound like fun, that was on my list of things to try next. I ended up making a crit Ice Spear witch (kinda like D2 Frozen Orb with important spacing) instead, and an Incinerate one (totally overpowered). Since I never got to do the Ubers quest in D2, I want to be able to do the Atziri kill solo in PoE... but that goal is basically shelved for now.

I should mention that my Glacial Cascade Witch is also half Necro, as I'm running with Raise Zombie... and, for the big fights, I LOVE Vaal Raise Skeleton!!!!! (with a Longer Duration support gem) Regular Raise Skeleton is kinda pitiful with just 2 skeletons for 20 sec, but Vaal Raise Skeleton raises a whole freaking army of them - perfect for popping those protected chests!

So...um... Incinerate, huh? I'll have to look into that! Right now I'm going to work on my Cleave/Dual Strike melee Scion, because my ranger found an awesome unique Tiger Sword that will be perfect for her.

Dual strike or double strike?

Dual strike is with two-weapons so a 2-handed sword won't be very helpful.

If it is dual strike I have a level 89 shadow using that skill so feel free to hit me up with any questions I'll have to try and help.

Anyone have something to say about new beta?
I quit some months ago after buying a 2-H mace for 4 exalts only to find out (high maps) that block and crit are (were) too important. (I used Resolute Technique)

Watched some Twitch beta playthroughs and didn't see the use of a 2-h..
New tree with jewels looks promising, though.

Haven't looked too much into the beta. Guess I'll only start worrying about it if/when I have some chance of playing the content.

What spec were you using for your 2-hander build? I have a RT cyclone character which is in the mid 80s and has few problems in high maps.

I used GS on my Mara with HS for single target and Leap Slam for... mobility and fun..
Multistrike will be nerfed.. used that in my 5-link setup.

there was a patch or two after I quit, so 2-h may have become somewhat viable, perhaps.

Haven't played a ground slam build so don't have a lot of constructive info on their strength these days. It was the go to melee build a couple of years ago!

Melee in general is fine in the current game (despite all the people moaning about its ineffectiveness). 2-handers aren't the best melee option but are definitely viable if played correctly.

So not to clutter the bar with PoE talk, lets bring this thread back into the daylight. If it sinks again, so be it.

I finished Act 3 Cruel in the SSF league with my Raging Spirit / Fire trap Witch last night, easier than I thought really.

@Cyrax Ok, how did you do that link thing?

We are starting to dominate the bar with PoE talk, perhaps we should start an OT thread instead.

Worked it out!!

It didn't work. Can't see your profile/chars. I think you have to go to privacy settings and then uncheck 'hide characters tab'. At least that's what i had to do for you guys to be able to see it.

That did it!

Quite a few chars you got there. But none really too far it seems. Don't worry i'll catch up with you in no time. ;)

Really enjoyed this game and would recommend it if anyone is thinking bout giving it a go. Unfortunately don't have a computer I can run it on currently.

Had a moment where i felt like i was playing D2. Actually racked a unique. :)

Really starting to warm up to that Perandus fella. Didn't think much of him at first honestly. But so far i've been able to buy 3 uniques from him. One is only for early game twinking. And even not too great at that. Second one has helped my barb...ahum marauder i mean... a great deal so far. And the third one looks like it may actually be end game worthy. Some ring that gives quite a bit of extra fire damage. Mokau or mokou something. Looks nice enough.

Marauder also managed to ascend in Normal. He even made it look easy (he was halfway act 4 when i tried). Doesn't help him one bit right now though. He's supposed to be using righteous fire, but i'm taking too much damage from it to use it right now. So for the moment he's using cleave and just being a tank in general. Not much can put him in trouble. Though it does happen sometimes. I can't imagine people doing this game in HC. Even in normal some spawns can do incredible damage.

Even though i'm against micro transactions i'm considering using it since i'm having trouble managing my stash. One tab is already almost full with currency. And another is really starting to fill up with uniques. I could clean that up a bit, because not all seem very useful (though trading 5 for 1 prophecy can be nice for that). And then i've got another tab that's full of gems/leaguestones. So that basically leaves me only 1 tab for everything else.

Are those talisman altars worth it btw? I've been saving those to put in the altar, but they take up quite a bit of space and so far don't seem particularly useful.

Even though i'm having fun with my builds it would be nice if i could actually get a build going that uses their intented engame skills as so far i'm mostly mapping for them in the passive tree, but am using something totally different.

It would seem buying some extra stash tabs isn't as easy as it sounds, since i don't have any of the payment methods that show up. Searching through google it would seem you can also do this using steam, but i didn't see it listed as a payment option. Which may have to do with the fact that i'm playing PoE without steam. So perhaps i should download it through steam just to be able to do this? Sounds like quite the hassle. Perhaps i should just mail GGG to see if there's an easier way.

I chucked them some coin for extra tabs a few times and ended up with 20 odd from memory and was still always out of room. I'm not up for paying for fancy microtransactions either but felt extra stash space was a definite QOL improvement and since the game was free to download and play I figured it didn't hurt to contribute some money for all the enjoyment I got out of it! (Plus it doesn't hurt to help some fellow Kiwis out!).

From memory I used Paypal to pay for them. Obviously that doesn't sound like it is an option for you.

Got it done yesterday, but it turned out to be quite the exercise to get there.

First use web-steam to add money to steam wallet (i've used steam once before to pay something and regular steam only keeps throwing errors when trying to transfer money from my account to theirs). Then download PoE through steam. Use Steam-PoE to make purchase. So in the end i can have my extra stash tabs in the non-steam-PoE.

Oh well, i got it now so hopefully (for the moment) i can collect more crap without worrying too much. :)

I always found POE interesting when it came to item collection. I think in the end you just need to be a bit of a hard ass and every so often look at your items and decide which you have grown out of so are now redundant.

Then sell them either to vendors for shards or start a 1 chaos thread if they are of a slightly higher quality and just get rid of them. Not sure how the market has changed over the years but it was so flooded with average items when I played.
