Wise choice. They say moderation is the sign of the true master, after all. Teach us, oh enlightened one :P

EDIT: I think Maatiarna is in as well (as per Jason's specification)

Signups will close in a few hours, or when my headache subsides. Whichever comes first.

SPF Mafia round 7 - your single stop for fun, suspense, and backstabbing paranoia. And once it's over, you get to boast. Order your seat while you still can: call 1-900-muzzzspf now!

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem - discussion & signup

I called that number Muzzz left and spoke with him for a while this morning.

Liq: Hey Muzzz!
Muzzz: Um...hey. Muzzz, eh? Well, for three dollars a minute I'll be whoever you want, baby. Do you wanna play?
Liq: Sure, I've read the rules and am ready to play. Whatcha doin big guy?
Muzzz: I'm just sittin' here wishin' you were with me.
Liq: Aww. Well, the mafia game will start soon and then I'll be with you in spirit once I get my role and you're secretly rooting for me.
Muzzz: Uh huh. What are you wearing?
Liq: I'm wearing my coolest t-shirt. It's a picture of Zhao_Yue's avatars with a red bar through it like it was a no smoking sign. Isn't that hilarious?
Muzzz: Sure honey. Guess what I'm wearing. I'll give you a hint, you won't have any trouble getting it off of me.
Liq: Hmmm...is it one of those shirts that Hulk Hogan used to wear? Those tear-away ones that show the audience how strong you are?
-CLICK-
Liq: Muzzz? You there? I think we got disconnected. Oh well, I'll call ya later, but don't forget to PM me my role. Buh-bye! Liq out.

The Rules - digest version
There are three factions: the Don's family (townsfolk), the rival mafia (bad guys #1), and the undercover cops (bad guys #2). The last faction standing wins.

The Don's family
Family members (townies) are not allowed to communicate at night. Three of them act as the Don's trustees (townie power roles). The others each get a separate choice and use of a one-time ability.

Power roles:
The doc - as usual.
The snoop - a toned-down cop. Each night you specify a person, and get told if he or she was active that night.
The goon - a role-blocker. Each night you specify a person, who will not be able to act that night. If a member of an opposing faction is targeted, that faction has a 1 in (# of living members) chance of being blocked.

Regular townie options:
Option #1: Stay cautios. You cannot be targeted by any nightly actions when you choose to stay awake.
Option #2: Start drinking. You'll receive the name of a random player who was active on the night you were drunk. Active players include all family members using an ability (either regular or power role), as well as all members of an opposing faction that uses an ability.

The bad guys
There are two teams of bad guys, each with three members. They are allowed to communicate with other members of their own team at night. Each team gets one kill per night, as well as a one-time ability. Unlike the townies, the choice and use of this ability is on a per-team basis.

Rival mafia options:
Option #1: Greed. You can try to turn one player to your side. Everything's fine if you target a regular member of the family. If you accidentally pick someone else, they'll walk away with the name of a random member of your group.
Option #2: Vendetta. You get a free kill, in addition to your regular nightly kill, against someone who opened up the voting on one of your members.

Undercover agents options:
Option #1: Good cops. This ability doesn't take effect until the day following the night it is used. During that day, discussion and voting are allowed as usual. But there won't be a lynch at the end of the day.
Option #2: Bad cops. You can falsify evidence, changing the allegiance someone reveals when they die.

The small print
Day and night will last as close to 48 and 24 hours, respectively, as possible. I will end them a little sooner if I foresee the alternative is an unpleasant delay. So don't wait until the last moment to act, you have been warned. Be sure to check in every 24 hours.

You can contact me all you want, by PM or email. Living players can post in this thread at day. Living bad guys may contact each other privately at night (dead baddies are allowed to receive copies, but must not contribute). Discussing this game in any other way is forbidden

Voting and unvoting must be done in bold, and both must specify a name. Yes, that means that a lazy unvote; vote cute girl isn't good enough this time. The person with the most votes at the end of the day will die. If there's a tie, I'll kill whomever reached the final number first. Both lynches and nightkills will reveal a player's faction.

You have to inform me of your (team's) choice of ability during the first night. If you're late, you get a random one. You may use any ability during the first night. Be sure to explicitly state you are not just selecting it but using it as well if you do so. To use an ability, contact me at night. Note to townies: the abilities are designed to discourage massive night one action. But you figured that out already, right?

My head's still in bad shape, so I might have forgotten something. If I did, refer to the original rules. If the two conflict, ask me which one is right. I can be dense at times, so when in doubt, be explicit. Your responsibility, as usual.

If and only if your name is on the following list, you're playing:

Aman
Ray
Thyiad
Goltar
Liquid
Bob
PureSummon
Lukin
friedbananaz
Naz
Serdash
Azador
NacRuno
Nolecub
Zhao Yue the AmanDestroyer
Jaedhann
Sint
Magicboy
W_m
Jason
Merlin
Lister
maatiarna

Total: 23.

It is now night one.
All roles have been handed out. If you did not receive a PM or email, contact me immediately. You may no longer post in this thread. Any questions, comments, or expressions of worship should be directed to me privately.

Every townie needs to submit their choice of ability. Power roles need to submit their target. Each bad guy team needs to submit their choice of ability and victim. I can't promise to keep my PM box ready, so it is your responsibility to email me if it gets full.

Have fun, stay vigilant, win!

EDIT: Addendum
I knew I forgot something...

No editing whatsoever, not even a quick typo fix.

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem - discussion & signup

Rule clarification: For the chose your options, can we be drunk/awake, good/bad, greed/vendetta more than once?

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem - discussion & signup

Please contact me privately for any questions or comments. It is night, after all.

Regarding the ability choices:
Regular townies can use their chosen ability only once during the entire game.
Bad guy teams can use their chosen ability only once during the entire game.
Townie power roles can use their ability once each night.
Bad guy teams can kill one person each night.

So if you are a regular townie, you get exactly one chance (EDIT: during the entire game) to act at night. Choose and use it wisely.

EDIT: Clarification regarding the drinking ability. The name you receive is not necessarily that of a bad guy. It can also be a townie power role or drinking regular townie that used his/her ability that night. Regular townies who stay cautious cannot be discovered through drinking, even if they use their ability on the same night.

EDIT 2: Night 1 might last longer than 24 hours. I want to make sure everyone's clear on the rules. And I want to start day 1 around a time when I can reasonably expect to be around on a regular basis.

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem - discussion & signup

I believe there's a higher power up there, watching us. And it's malevolent. It has to be. How else can you explain the clockwork precision with which the universe disturbs your plans? I was even't asking for much. A good night's sleep would've been enough. Honestly. The early hours are never my best, especially if I'm awakened rudely. It took me a few moments to realize that the shouting voice I heard was Dan's. I struggled out of bed with the intent to smack some sense into him when I noticed the sky had a strange, orange hue to it. Quite pretty, really. I stared at it for a few seconds before I realized there was a fire. It took me a few more to figure out that this probably explained the shouting.

At this point you probably expect me to say that I jumped up and rushed to see what was going on. I didn't. Instead, I casually walked to the kitchen, ignoring everyone on my way. I always ignore everyone until I've had my morning coffee. It's better that way, trust me. After that was taken care of, I went looking for Dan. “ Let's go”, I said when I found him. And we went.

Apparently, the burning I noticed earlier belonged to Zhao's house. Zhao himself was right in front of the door, covered in what seemed to be burnt marshmellows. I looked around for a bit, without any luck, until I reached the backyard. The fire had burned away part of the fence separating it from Aman's garden. Which was emitting a smell strong enough to penetrate the burnt wood. In the middle of the garden was a huge pile of pigeon poo. With a hand sticking out. And a dead, wingless pigeon on top, with a police badge in it's mouth. “For some bizarre reason, I'm reminded of Ray when I look at that pigeon”, Dan noted. “Whatever”, I responded. “Leave them in the clearing. But put the firehose on both of them first. Can't bury a man covered in white goo”.

Going back to the streets, I nearly stepped into a puddle of pre-digested food. It smelled like that hair-grow lotion sold by the barber in a neighbouring town. Seems someone decided to hit the cabinet last night. And the wrong one at that. By then a sizable crowd had gathered outside. Looked like they were waiting. Maybe for me to say something. I should've realized when we started this that people are always a pain. Even if you own the town they live in. “Find out who did this. Bring 'em in at sundown”, I grunted. Dan could take care of the rest. I went to find another cup of coffee.

It is now Monday (day one)

Zhao and Aman were killed.
Zhao was a regular member of the Don's family (townie).
Aman was an undercover agent (bad guy).

You have 48 hours to decide who will be lynched. Voting is open, have at it!

Have fun, stay vigilant, win!

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem

Well, at this point, one choice seems as good as the other, and since my inet connection is acting up something terrible, I'll quickly cast a vote of my own :
Vote: Sir Lister of Smeg

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem

Nah, Sint. You should vote Lister. In fact, so should everyone.

There have only been 3 things I have ever been certain about in my time on this planet.
1) Change is constant.
2) People are sheep.
3) Lister in SPF mafia round 7 is *NOT* in the best interests of the town and needs to die immediately.

If he doesn't bleed bad guy, I'll offer myself up on the chopping block tomorrow. Lister is bad. Lister needs to die now.

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem

Well Nikolaas, I suppose one choice is as good as the other, as said before. There is no reasoning behind the votes yet I'd say, so...

@liquid Seeing as how there are only bad guys this round (and undercover cops), that last statement actually says nothing.... But I am quite sure you thought of that already :P

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem

Vote Sir Lister of Smeg

I have good reason to believe he's a vampi--wait. Wrong mafia round.

Just bandwagoning.

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem

First... who went drinking last night, and what did you see?

Second... Liquid: Why Lister? I mean, going by his record he will go AWOL for a large chunk of this game, but do you have any reason beyond that?

Now, third... my cunning scheme.

I did some thinking about how to play this game with the townie abilities, and here's what I came up with:

Each day, a vanilla townie steps forward. That person will stay up drinking, and everyone else stays home. That townie, if they survive, will give us the name of someone who was active that night. Given that we know that only the Bad Guys and the drinker were active, we can be pretty sure that the name is one of the Bad Guys, and so the following day we lynch that person.

Townie power roles go out at their own risk - they risk getting caught by the drinker if they go out, but if they think the risk is worth the reward, they go for it. Given that the Doc has only a 1/6 chance of getting caught while protecting the drinker, it would probably be wise for the Doc to cover the drinker and hope his/her luck holds.

So, to summarise: One, and ONLY one volunteer drinker/night, covered by the Doc. That drinker gives a name that probably belongs to a Bad Guy, and so we lynch whoever was IDed. Rinse, repeat until no bad guys remain, providing we don't lose the Doc.

Thoughts? Ideas for improvements?

Re: OT: SPF mafia round 7 - Return to Salem

Oh yes, and the solution if we lose the Doc is to have two drinkers/night and hope that one survives.
