OT: Is there another game?

What is the most, diablo-like, game to play?
I've heard of Icewind Dale... is it worth it?

I'm curious to know Diablo's most direct competitors and check if i can play for a 2 hours strait without looking at the clock... (like in D2)

Icewind Dale is very little like Diablo 2, in all respects except its ability to be played for hours whilst forgetting the time. Though personally i think Baldur's Gate 2/Throne of Bhaal is Diablo 2's main competetor, as that was really one of the biggest last-generation rpg's with really addictive gameplay and storyline.

It's a whole new world if you're used to Diablo 2 though. D2 goes something like:

*kill, kill, kill, run, w00t itamz!, kill, kill, kill, kill, run, killl, run...*

Wheras BG2 is something like:

*walk over here, pause, detect traps, pause, disarm traps, collect items, walk through doorway, pause, see enemies, pause, tactically decide how to combat them, arrange party in battle formation, pause, cast carefully selected spell, pause, have fighters attack, pause...*

Gameplay's alot slower, but can still be as addictive if you enjoy a more story-oriented rpg. Hope this helps somewhat.

Edit: typo

For D2 style play, I seem to remember reading in PC Gamer magazine that Divine Divinity and its sequel Beyond Divinity (I think) are very similar to D2. Can't say for sure as I never played them myself. :)

The new game "Sacred" is very, very D2 like and has quite a few fans among current and former D2 players.

sacred hands down :worship: played it like, 40+ hours and cant wait for my windy to hit thatdamn 99 mark so i have some extra time for sacred left ;)

Baldurs Gate 2 is very different and nothing like D2. Same with Icewind dale (uses the BG engine). Most games i've seen that are d2esque are just terrible ripoffs. Except Divine Divinity. It has no Multiplayer options but it is a fun game. It's like D2 cept it only has 3 char classes (actually 6, 3 for each sex) but the skill selection is completly open. My warrior has point in ressurect and heal and whatnot. The only differents is the special skills. A warrior can spin his weapon. (Not was good as WW) a rouge can crouch so he won't be seen. I can't remeber that wizards skill tho. It's played in the same pseudo 3d style as D2. So, if you have some extra some i'd recommend it. (but it's no where as addictive as D2)

Well, i've played BG2 and Neverwinter also, but i get bored after a while... just dont have the patience to play with so many dull moments... i need that kill kill kill rush....
As for sacred i guess i'll try that, since i've played the demo for like 2 mins and i liked what i saw...
I'l Guess a Diablo 3 it's really what i need... :ponder: (and most of u... i think)

Well, there's Darkstone - which is kind of a D1-clone with some interesting ideas but serious balance-issues. Tons of spells but hard to even level out the low-level ones. At low levels the mage will kill fastest, at higher levels the mage will really fall behind the warrior.
For playing SP you can start with two different chars, kind of like char + merc in D2 - but you can at any time switch between chars, have one wait at some place, etc. You also can give limited commands for the one controlled by the AI. (Like set one spell for him to cast.)

As some have already mentioned, there's Sacred. Only tried the demo which wasn't bad but somehow didn't quite draw me in.

Another interesting one is Dungeon Siege. I haven't played more than the demo yet but it's a game I'm considering getting.
You start out as a farmer and how your char develops only depends on what skills you exercise. Like if you poke things with a sharp stick a lot, your str and your combat-skills will go up. If you, however, prefer to cast spells, it's your int and your spells which will level.
You also can hire up to seven people to accompany you.

Also Divine Divinity and its sequel Beyond Divinity.
The one thing I hated with DD is that there are too many skills. It's not like in D2 with three skill-trees per char and each skill is maxed at lvl 20. With +skills helping past that.

There are three char-"classes" and each class has four trees. A skill is maxed out at level 5 - and playing a "pure" char is pretty much impossible. You always will need some skills from the survivor-skill-trees, for instance, if you want to solve all quests. You gain one skill-point per level-up and two every fifth level. There are a couple of quests which give a skill and you can sometimes find or buy books for the mage-skills.
Also you gain exp by killing monsters and by doing quests - though doing quests gives very little in the way of exp. :/

What I love with DD is the music. I've never had a game with better music. Also the graphics are very good.

I haven't tried BD yet - other than the demo - as I'm still trying to get my hands on an English version of it.

dungeon seige is alright, i never played the whole thing but it has great graphics. the progression of skills and levels is weak but overall it is not that bad. Plus dungeon siege 2 is right around the corner and i hear it will be pretty good

Tried Divine Divinity but couldn't make it through the game it was so boring, but Sacred is awesome. I haven't put my D2 disk back in the tray since I got Sacred. Now that's saying something. I have been D2 free for about 2 weeks now :uhhuh:

Dungeon siege isn't too bad as a D2 clone. The expansion which added set items a backpack and a few more rare type items gives it more of a D2 feel.

The best part about the game is that its built to be modded. The game is setup kind of like warcraft in that you can create maps to play on, but they take forever to build since you have to use different squares with each of the terrain, but its a cool game overall.

I tried sacred and liked it however my main computer can not handle the graphics for the game I guess if I get a better graphic card I could play it but I think I will just wait until I upgrade my computer.

I completed Dungeon Siege, and I have to say that the demo is by far the most interesting part of the entire game--it gets rapidly samey after that point.

Good points: nice graphics.
Bad points:
- Skill system sucks--you only have 4 skills, and while the two magic-related skills have a whole raft of associated spells, the low-level ones are rarely useful at higher levels, so you end up using 2 or 3 of them. This makes character building in the D2 fashion nigh impossible.
- Rigorously linear in single player. You think Diablo 2 is bad for this? There's only one place in the whole of Dungeon Siege where you have the slightest possibility of getting lost!
- Poorly implemented multiplayer. If the multiplayer worked right (e.g. waypoints and teleport stones were saved, like D2's waypoints) the multiplayer game would actually be entertaining, but as it is you can't effectively save your progress. (Unless they fixed that in a patch).

That's my opinion of the game, anyway. I might get DS2 anyway, just to see if they've fixed the biggest problems...

If you hate baldur's gate, but love diablo, then dungeon siege is probably right up your ally. It's non stop brain dead monster bashing with endlessly reptitive gameplay. But the graphics are soooooooooooo pretty!!!!!

i couldn't really get in to dungeon siege. don't know why exactly, but it didn't do it for me.

i purchased sacred a little while ago, but it also didn't compare. as of right now its too buggy and its annoying that monsters re-spawn in area you've already cleared that area... it makes for annoying travel around. on the plus side, it is much more open than D2 and they seem to be trying to fix the bugs and gameplay issues. so i guess the jury's still out on sacred, as far as i'm concerned.

Dungeon Siege is OK. You won't be amazed by it. There is no skills diffrence, so it's just point, click, wait for monsters to die, and you don't need any strategies to finish it. At the end I only had 1 character when you can have several. Not worth playing through again IMO hehe.

Sacred is awesome. I've putter 10 hours maybe in this one and I love it. It's really like D2 only with better graphics and bug infested. I've only seen bugs affecting certain quest so far, it happened to me once or twice, so that ain't a lot. It's really huge, lots of diversity. I too hate the fact that monsters respawn, but that's life hehe.

Divine Divinity, never played it.

Just heard about Sacred today and found it at Best Buy a little while ago. Looking forward to playing it.

Also, just heard about another game called Spellforce. Any thoughts??

Sacred wows you for about the first 20 hours, but after that... zzzzzzzzzzz Maps are always the same, monsters are always the same (same monsters always appear in the same location). Hardly any strategy involved plus a crappy skill tree. Good effort on the devs part, but not good enough.
