Man, that is a bit tricky.
I think the one that sounds the best would be to make an SPF Relic.
You could build on that and do weekly mini-tournements were you can win the SPF Relic for a day. Not these full blown tournements but simple ones that could be accomplished in a day. Or the best response to FB's top 5 polls.
As for something useful, I really like the idea socketing and then unsocketing and making an uber runewood in the indestructible eth item.
I know this can be a real delima, to date, I've found 5 runes higher than Um and of those 5 I have exactly 5 still sitting in my stash. If nothing else, I'm feeling inspired to go and make something useful instead of letting them sit and rot.

The best option is saving it for that sexy, sexy ethereal rare weapon. Some ethereal Thunder Maul, Cryptic Axe, Giant Thresher, War Pike, Archon Staff, Cryptic/Mythical Swords, Assassin claws or other uber elite with 400%+ ED, 20-40% IAS, scaling AR and damage, and multiple sockets among other things. You could try getting the forum involved with a 'best rare --zodworthy contest' Rares have so many style points over uniques its not even fair.
If per chance, the rare idea doesn't work (because God knows not everyone shares my unhealthy lust for them) I would say socket it into an ethereal tomb reaver along with 2) 40% ED/15% IAS jewels for the meanest Fury druid this side of battle.net. Could use it to entice icebird to leave WoW and come back to his D2 roots...

About that zod glitch, I'VE HEARD OF IT! Test it first before doing the real thing. Don't wanna people whining about how they lost their Zods and Hels.
Also, it is a bug. No feature here. It is cheesy, may be frowned upon by some of us, and might even be corrected in future patches (yeah, right), making the whole thing less than useful.

if you decide to give it away, i also like the idea of "best rare item" type scenario. i'm very interested in seeing what people have out there. i recently found a 330% ED/10 ias composite bow that i'm upping for my newly created strafezon. i too think rares are much sexier than uniques.

Ahhh, guys do not, I repeat do not do this to your items. The glitch only works/worked on items that were zodded in .09 and then had the zod removed in 1.10. Lots of people did this with eth arreats faces and zak shields on bnet (among other things) to give them crazy defense while still being able to socket them with something more useful (read: 40/15s, um/resist jewel, etc..). I am not sure if the glitch has since been fixed but that is/was how it was done.
That being said, don't do this with your zod farting bob!!
P.S. Other than the sexy rare idea, I am really loving the eth stormlash or eth 3 socket tomb reaver idea
.Nice find Bob. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. I agree with most here, save it for a rare. I remember seeing an assassin claw that was ethereal with close to 450 damage or there abouts. The guy zodded it. I can't recall if it was here or the assassin forum (where the zod would 99.99999% be illegit).
Just save it and wait. Or make a BOtD bow to reward the amazon who found it. Just the fact that bows aren't ever ethereal would be enough to irritate some people.
