NPC item shopping costs and chances

Okay, so a few guides mention good gear that can be bought from NPCs with a bit of effort. However, I don't wanna end up finding those items for sale after 4 hours of searching only to realize I don't have enough gold (epic "D'oh!"). I realize that it also depends on the base item, so, in general, how much am I looking at spending for the following?

Jeweler's body armor of Amicae (4 sockets, 8-15 PDR)
Jeweler's body armor of Life (4 sockets, 4-7 PDR)

Jeweler's body armor of the Whale (4 sockets, 81-100 life)
Jeweler's body armor of the Squid (4 sockets, 61-80 life)

Jeweler's Monarch of Amicae (4 sockets, 8-15 PDR)
Jeweler's Monarch of Deflecting (4 sockets, 20 ICB, 30 FBR)
Artisan's shield of Amicae (3 sockets, 8-15 PDR)

Cunning Claws (+3 Traps)
Cunning Claws w/ staffmods
Shadow Claws (+3 Shadow Disciplines)
Shadow Claws w/ staffmods

About how long does it take to find some of these, and who's the best to check for each? And keep in mind for the Jeweler's body armors that it helps to have it on an armor that can actually HAVE four sockets

Re: body armors

You'll want to have ~300 hundred thousand available, which is enough for the lesser body armors (gothic plate/full plate/ancient armor) which get 4 sockets. The price range varies quite a bit, ancients are a lot more costly than gothics, for example. Personally I'd carry extra gold, just in case a nice ornate/embossed plate popped up, if you plan on having enough Str for those.

It's hard to estimate how much shopping I've done, maybe ~12 hours combined shopping time for many different chars. The results: I have several Jeweler's/Squid, 1 Jeweler's/Whale, and several Jeweler's/Life. Jeweler's/Amicae has eluded me. They can be shopped as early as NM Larzuk, but it's probably easier to put a cow portal next to Hell Charsi.

Re: NPC item shopping costs and chances

Okay, I did some shopping at Anya for new claws for my assassin. From what I saw, these are general costs for the +skill mods:

+1 assassin skills: 52K gold
+2 assassin skills: 55K gold

+1 Traps: 5K gold
+2 Traps: DFA (Didn't find any)
+3 Traps: DFA

+1 Shadow: DFA
+2 Shadow: 14K gold
+3 Shadow: DFA

+1 Martial Arts: 13K gold
+2 Martial Arts: 14K gold
+3 Martial Arts: DFA

Staffmods will immediately send any claw into the 150-350K range, maybe even more

Re: NPC item shopping costs and chances

One question I have 2 u guys, what is the use of a magical four socketed item ?
What you put in it ? 4 PDiamant for resist in case of shields? 4 Um in case of other items for resis ? It's a well known fact that magic can't turn into RW.

I don't discuss 'bout utility, I just ask because I'm really curious about this matter.

PS: Except +3 traps asa's claws, which utility is clear, and no need discussion here ... dual +3 claws 2 sockets is gold to a traped asa.

Re: NPC item shopping costs and chances

^ 4 Sols in a Jeweler's Armor of Amicae = 36-43 PDR.
The ultimate integer PDR armor, useful for many builds.

To my understanding magic 4 socket armours with a good suffix, like that of a whale, were in high demand back in the days before all the godly runewords and they were often socketed with 40%ed/15%IAS jewels.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

They have different uses. The _____ of Amicae/Life Everlasting items get filled with Sol runes for huge PDR, which can fully negate most damage in PVM. The ____ of the Whale items are for more general purpose socketing, same with Jeweler's Monarch of Deflecting.

I took for example a devilkin , a monster act 1 hell to see of what use a 4 sol armour can be.

Hit points devilkin 1159-3400
Armour amicae 4 sol socketed : 36-43 damage reduction.

Corect me if I'm wrong, but what good makes that thing ? I mean instead of 1159-3400 it hits you with 1123 - 3357.

Corect me if I'm wrong, my calculations are exact ?

Re: NPC item shopping costs and chances

I think you are reading the HP column, not the damage column. I would like to see a devilkin that hits for 1000 HP. Not even Uber Meph hits nearly that hard.

Arreat summit says they hit for 43-86 damage, which after reduction is 0-43 damage. With another 43 PDR, you can get them to hit for 0-0 damage.

Why are you even looking at the monster's HP? The armor reduces the damage you take. So if a monster does 50-100 damage, and you're wearing 43 PDR armor, you're only taking 7-57 damage.

think u read from the wrong chart on battle.net/diablo2exp

Devilkin in hell has the dmg 43-86, then remove 36-43 from that

Re: NPC item shopping costs and chances

Woah, you didn't seriously believe that a devilkin hit for 3400 max damage? THat'd be 6800 physical damage when he scores critical. Not easy to survive.
