After ~1.5 years or so in HC I still haven't gotten my enigma. I did actually start LKing a while ago, but then I deeded my sorc and poro won't rush me a new one :( Guess I could actually play through the game solo though. Has been a while.

You can rush your own sorc! Also, rush her in SC and farm Enigma there for pvp purposes. You don't need Enigma in HC, too much risk. :funnyabove:

Today is my busy day, but I still did like 50 LK runs. Well... What can I say. I got this without Nulio's bag of luck on my shoulders! And two days ago I said that probability to get nice skiller is slim to none and that I'll never find that. Or if I will, that will be some Hexing crap or something just like I got 44 life masteries skiller not so long ago.

ok i am gettin pretty tired hunting for soj.
all happened when i was on my paladin in lvl around 50-60 i dont even remember. nm andy dropped me a soj. thats the first time in my life i got a soj drop. i realized with that soj that i will eventually need sorc for farming. (i used to play sorc back in the day of 1.09d on bnet)
so i made a sorc and i went for hunting another soj from NM andy. i read on forums and online the chance are 1 in 31 unique rings from NM andy will be soj. every unique ring after 31 dropped is blessed with 97% chances of being soj. (hohoho)
i did first with my sorc nm andy and i got like 12/13 rings i cant remember and then i did hell andy for like 6 rings. i ID them all and none of them was soj. i went for farming ancient tunnels, LK, everything else...farmed meph for 600 runs to get arachnid etc...
and was time to get back on hunting for SOJ. thinking she dropped me 12 rings so far. that means 19 more and ill have my soj most likely. nope.... i just finished with 19th ring and it still isnt soj. i didnt even get the perfect nagel, not even once. i'll continue to do her and i wont stop until i get soj. then ill shove these "math" equations down the throat to all those smartases.
 
If the chance of finding one is 1/31 unique rings, then your chances of finding a single SoJ within 31 rings is approximately 67%. Ring dropping is completely independent of previous drops; the game doesn't check to see how many rings you've found so far. It just rolls every single gold ring based on the rarity of each ring (SoJ/BK are the rarest). So that 97% chance after 31 rings isn't accurate. The chances of a gold ring being a SoJ is the same at all times, regardless of earlier drops.
 
It should also be noted that 1/31 rings will be SoJs when you run NM Andy, but if you run some Hell boss or area, the chance of a given ring being a SoJ will be significantly lower.

(Also it's approx. 64% Daz, not 67%. Not that it matters really)
 
Hmmmm since I'm doing NM Andy. Its 3 possibilities (Nagel, Manald and SoJ). 31 rings dropped and none of them was SoJ. I know that ring dropping is independent of previous drops its just you know, screw my luck :D It was just the math possibility due to drop percentage.
Fabian as I repeat 1/31 isn't SoJ in my case. So that statement is bogus.

Also, manald, soj and nagel don't have the same drop chance which is where the 1/31 comes from instead of 1/3. It's in the game's code and this has been known for a long long time.
 
I forgot to mention my utter bad luck. Few days ago when I killed NM Andy she dropped 2 unique rings, I thought to myself "GREAT!!!! One of them is SoJ since the game can't drop two of the same unique items in one game." But it wasn't. Nope, it was manald and nagel. Currently I am at around 35 dropped unique rings from NM andy.
Wish this terror stops so i can get back on farming LK chests for ber runes.
 
After she sat a long time at 97.5 and then at ~97.8, I finally made my zon 98 the day before yesterday and was starting to get a bit pissed because she wasn't finding any HR ever since she was 97.1 (my luck standards are getting higher and higher lol). Being ~97.9 helped:

If NM Andy drops two unique rings, the chance of finding a SoJ is (1/31)+(1/16) = 9.5% or so. Not something to be particularly annoyed by, in other words.

After having found 35 unique rings from NM Andy, the chance of having found 0 SoJ is about 31.7%. Again, nothing spectacular in the bad luck department.

The poor job education institutions do (in my relatively limited but not so completely limited experience) worldwide with not properly explaining the role and execution to statistics to non-math majors irks me consistently. A fair few non-math-inclined people do get the basic functions, but a large enough group don't to allow, in the US at least, marketing to specifically target people's ignorance of odds to sell various gambles.

*Note* I'm simplifying this to a point which will probably annoy the numbers people. You can comment on that, or not, as you choose, but I'm noting here and defending it with: I think the simplification is worth the easing of situation explanation.

If the odds of finding a SoJ from NM Andy comes out to 1 out of 31 unique rings, then that means the ratio would be preserved if someone does not find one until their 248th ring, as long as someone else finds 8 within 31. (248+31)/9 = 31; 9/9 = 1.

Of course one person doesn't have to be alone in performing these numbers; several people finding fewer SoJs from more unique rings from NM Andy and several people finding more SoJs from fewer unique rings from NM Andy add together to form the ratio. In brash but fairly true terms, at least here, individual results do not alter or rely on the ratios. Pick a target and do a run (or pick a unique item type with multiple outcomes and start finding them) and all statistics can do is add a number to an instances column and tick yes or no whether the desired outcome occurred. That's the ugly part of statistics: it can make absolutely zero assurances of when a thing will happen. However, it's also the glory of statistics because it gives rise to what statistics can do: tell you how likely your performance was, or how likely your desired outcome is, from a supposed mean.

As such, statistics's usefulness really comes down only to large numbers. 31 NM Andy rings mean nothing in terms of finding an SoJ, statistically speaking; your findings mark only an imperceptible and momentary flux as they pile in among all the other numbers from all the other runners everywhere. Before you'd be able to call anything about good or bad luck and have it mean anything, you'd have to have a reasonable sample size, which in this case would be several hundred unique rings from NM Andy, and even then all you can determine from looking at the ratio likelihood is what your variance from that is, and then assign a personal subjective decision upon it.

Of course variance is expected, even when dealing with huge numbers. That is to say if you had 31,000 unique rings from NM Andy the expected value of the SoJs would be 1,000, but if you had 930 or 1,070 instead it would not represent any sort of cataclysm or anything, just a shift that happens because, again, statistics only determines likelihood across large numbers of instances and any single instance can vary fairly drastically with no harm done to the numbers, unless that shift becomes a trend.

In other words, if you haven't found an SoJ in 31 unique NM Andy rings, it's no worries. And if you haven't found one in 100 rings, then it's no worries, as far as looking at the statistics goes. Which means, quite frankly, unless someone feels willing to put a ton of time and effort into whatever the endeavor (like buying a lot of lottery tickets or playing a lot of hands of poker or farming a lot of unique rings from NM Andy) then looking at the statistics means essentially nothing for them, unless they know enough about statistics to take comfort from any "bad luck" they might perceive.

Found a Gul from some random monster (might have been a Boss Pack Minion). That makes three great runes in a week!

Mondays drop of a Jah rune on my hammerdin first time playing it in probably about a year,motivated me to start playing him again so i did some eldritch and shenk runs today. Did probably about 50-60 runs and then this guy dropped:

I've been pretty lucky since picking this guy up again, i think I'll start playing him some more :P
