merc for frostmaiden

The argument here is more than just Ice/Faith vs Ice/Infinity.

It's more like IceGMB/Faith vs IceMat/Infinity. The key point here is the base bows that the runewords are in. Both cases are able to run an 8 frame attack easily.

You sure as hell aren't going to use IceGMB/Infinity, it will be far too slow to be useful.

If using an Infinity merc, then you pretty much have to succumb to using a Mat.Bow and put up with the weaker physical/Strafe/Multi damage. Your Cold damage will rock, and you'll be able to break some (not all) of the cold immunes in Hell.

If using a Faith merc, you wont be using a Mat.Bow. You'll have serious overkill in the speed department. IceGMB comes into play here, giving you better physical/Strafe/Multi damage, which means easier mana leeching for less mana leech.

Faith is an OK bow for a Frostmaiden, but you're missing the all-important auto-Holy Freeze aura, and the +coldskilldmg% and -enemyres%. You'll notice that the cold damage from Holy Freeze (as well as any other cold damage like Ravenfrost, Vamp Gaze, charms) adds to both the arrow of FA and the splash damage as well.

I guess the main underlying reason for using a Faith merc is similar to the premise behind KremBananX's guide, using an Ice instead of Windforce. It's a slower, bigger damage bow, with Faith to get it to a respectable speed. I don't like focusing only on one type of damage with my characters. If I can end up with 2 powerful elements, then I'd go with that option instead.

Thanks, together you and SSoG told me exactly what I was wanting to know. When I finally do make a Forst Maiden I'm going to use an Ice Mat bow and Infinity. I'll probably use the combination of an Um'd Andy's and Cham'd Arkaine's Valor to bring the Conviction aura up to level 16:-)

conviction on infinity cannot be improved by +skill items

Huh? Is this something special with infinity? Is it only when on a merc? I thought + all skills worked on mercs. I am confused. Does this apply to all items that provide skills? No... my nec has a level 19 Bo... I really am confused. Unless there is something special about Infinity I'm guessing the + all skills will enhance it. It does on other skill items...

+skills doesnt work on auras granted by items,

...but my necromancer has a level 19 Bo. Do mean on merc? This only applys to mercs? This leave me confused as to why Andy's Visage is such a popular merc helm. I always thought it was because it provided enough ST to wear Sacred Armor... and provided +2 all skills to enhance auras. Without that last one there really only seems to be one reason to use Andy's, why is it so popular? I really am confused.

Does this only apply to mercs? If so, why is Andy's so popular if it's +2 skills don't do anything at all?

Read his post again. He says +skills doesn't work on auras granted by items. A merc's aura is not granted by items, but is his own aura.

BO from Call To Arms is not an aura... it's an OSkill. OSkills can be boosted by +skill items, but AURAS cannot. If you equipped Insight or Infinity on your Necromancer and then put on Maras, Anni, Andy's, etc, it wouldn't boost the aura level, either.

Auras from items *cannot be boosted*, although you can stack them if you have two different items that grant the same aura (i.e. Edge + Bramble, or dual-Dreams).

I see... This applies only to mercs though, right. If you equip Faith as a Bowzon your +All skills increase the Fant aura, don't they?

No. The aura level on items that grant auras when equipped is fixed. +skills do not boost them, whether they are on you or your merc. The only way to "increase" the level is by stacking it with another item that grants the same aura, as SSoG described.

Ok. I always assumed that +All Skills increased those. Thanks.
