Concept
Hathor is the product of what I thought an original idea, and follows a carefully designed step by step plan. Planning stage’s research on similar builds yielded NagisaFurukawa’s excellent Matriarch Sakura - ES 2H 'Voice of Reason' Enchantless, which is proof that SPFers are pretty inventive, and of course that great minds tend to think alike
Hathor and Sakura’s core concepts share striking similarities (notably the use of ES, ‘VoR’, and Enchant from Demonlimb), but they also differ a great deal in attribute/skill allocations, equipment/hireling choices, build goals, and playstyles. Consequently, they are two very different Matriarchs who happen to share the same conceptual grounds.
Hathor is a melee ES Sorceress built around Cold Spells. Specifically, the Chances to Cast spells, and +X to specific spells from two items: ‘Voice of Reason’ runeworded sword (15% ctc lvl 13 Frozen Orb, and 18% ctc lvl 20 Ice Blast, both on striking), and Snowclash unique belt (5% ctc lvl 7-20 Blizzard when struck, +3 to Glacial Spike, and +2 to Chilling Armor).

The Frozen Orb from ‘Rift’ is much stronger than ‘Voice of Reason’. However, ‘VoR’ is preferred here for a number of reasons: (1) it offers 2 spells which are synergized by Ice Bolt; (2) it can be made on a Phase Blade requiring much less IAS, opening lots of room for customisation; and, (3) it has CBF, meaning dual SoJ can be used (+25% mana and +1 skills is really nice for ES build).

This mercenary is a perfect fit for this build for a number of reasons: (1) he’s a strong tank, allowing the full benefit of Teleport positioning/repositioning in melee range; (2) he wields Reaper’s Toll, halving enemy physical damage output before Energy Shield, and further contributes to slow monsters; (3) his aura Blessed Aim, greatly improves Hathor’s chance to hit which is of paramount importance for her Cold CtC on striking; and, (4) he delivers a nice amount of Crushing Blow at a nice attack speed that goes very well with Hathor’s Static Field versus bosses. Overall, Azrael was so imposing that most of the time it felt like Hathor was his backup sidekick and not the other way around!
Strategy
The general strategy was to cast Glacial Spike in order to freeze the baddies, use Teleport to land with the merc on top of them, spam Static and/or simply swing the sword depending on the mobs. At close range most monsters would get insta-Decrepified by Azrael, and further slowed by one or more Cold spells (Glacial Spike, FO, Ice Blast, Blizzard, Chilling Armor). As a side note, using a strategy this aggressive guaranteed that the ‘5% ctc Blizzard when struck’ was plenty.
This was effective almost every single time. Even CIs were not a problem. It was remarkably successful versus Oblivion Knights since they tend to cast Decrepify instead of Iron Maiden at close range. Most mana burners were also no match for GS + Decrepify + multiple cold spells procing + pot drinking. They simply required additional GS casting and pot drinking.
The aggressive teleport on top strategy only fell short versus two types of monsters: (1) the rare monsters that attacked incredibly fast and hard (eg, mana burner Frenzy Taur boss = gg bye), and (2) massed Gloams (aka insta-depleted mana pool = no ES + negative Lightning Resist + low hit points = very dead very quickly). As far as the incredible fast and hard attackers go, I’m not sure there’s something that could be done, other than stay the hell away from them! Mass Gloams, on the other hand, have a solution although it involves completely different tactics. They need to be approached very slowly and carefully in order not to lure too many of them at once. In small numbers they don’t pose a real threat and are easy to dispatch.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the way things worked out with Hathor. She is a very safe and fun character to play

The Frozen Orb from ‘Rift’ is much stronger than ‘Voice of Reason’. However, ‘VoR’ is preferred here for a number of reasons: (1) it offers 2 spells which are synergized by Ice Bolt; (2) it can be made on a Phase Blade requiring much less IAS, opening lots of room for customisation; and, (3) it has CBF, meaning dual SoJ can be used (+25% mana and +1 skills is really nice for ES build).

This mercenary is a perfect fit for this build for a number of reasons: (1) he’s a strong tank, allowing the full benefit of Teleport positioning/repositioning in melee range; (2) he wields Reaper’s Toll, halving enemy physical damage output before Energy Shield, and further contributes to slow monsters; (3) his aura Blessed Aim, greatly improves Hathor’s chance to hit which is of paramount importance for her Cold CtC on striking; and, (4) he delivers a nice amount of Crushing Blow at a nice attack speed that goes very well with Hathor’s Static Field versus bosses. Overall, Azrael was so imposing that most of the time it felt like Hathor was his backup sidekick and not the other way around!
Strategy
The general strategy was to cast Glacial Spike in order to freeze the baddies, use Teleport to land with the merc on top of them, spam Static and/or simply swing the sword depending on the mobs. At close range most monsters would get insta-Decrepified by Azrael, and further slowed by one or more Cold spells (Glacial Spike, FO, Ice Blast, Blizzard, Chilling Armor). As a side note, using a strategy this aggressive guaranteed that the ‘5% ctc Blizzard when struck’ was plenty.
This was effective almost every single time. Even CIs were not a problem. It was remarkably successful versus Oblivion Knights since they tend to cast Decrepify instead of Iron Maiden at close range. Most mana burners were also no match for GS + Decrepify + multiple cold spells procing + pot drinking. They simply required additional GS casting and pot drinking.
The aggressive teleport on top strategy only fell short versus two types of monsters: (1) the rare monsters that attacked incredibly fast and hard (eg, mana burner Frenzy Taur boss = gg bye), and (2) massed Gloams (aka insta-depleted mana pool = no ES + negative Lightning Resist + low hit points = very dead very quickly). As far as the incredible fast and hard attackers go, I’m not sure there’s something that could be done, other than stay the hell away from them! Mass Gloams, on the other hand, have a solution although it involves completely different tactics. They need to be approached very slowly and carefully in order not to lure too many of them at once. In small numbers they don’t pose a real threat and are easy to dispatch.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the way things worked out with Hathor. She is a very safe and fun character to play
