Introduction
David is a sequel to Lemmy in many levels.

Between the characters I also moved one idea I had into execution - I'm trying to do a Sept around Zod God items.

As the title also tells, this is now the second part of that journey.

Idea for the build
David planned to use Bonehew as a weapon. Pretty hurty stick on its own, let alone when perfect and ethereal, but I wanted to go a bit further to maximize its potential.

First of all, it has 50% Chance to cast level 16 Bone Spear on striking. Every other hit landing casts a Bone Spear? Okay, why not go ahead and synergize it...

Secondly, I hadn't done full Titan build yet, and for some reason this felt like a right time to try it out. Full strength it was, then.

Rest were kind of built around these two starter points, as I best saw to fit the needs.

End result
Let's take a look what kind of LCS numbers I achieved:

I chose to not use Call to Arms at all, because I needed Enchant charges from Demon Limb regularly. To make up for the loss of that little life, I put some 1.07 cheese into a use; my armor was Arkaine's Valor with it's huge +Vitality.

Some little tinkering was made in order to achieve the dexterity for Bonehew without putting any actual points in dex. I was able to go 100% with str, nice.

As for the skills, after maxing the synergies for Bone Spear I opted to go without summons, cause I felt I was too short of skills to get them while having the necessary curses. So I put some extra points for the two most used skills: Decrepify and Dim Vision. Bone Armor was at an OK level after all the skills in different bone skills, so that was cast all the time also when meleeing. Some Bonewall was also used, but not too much. Should I have chosen to play with higher players setting, I'm sure I'd have needed it much more to survive.

Faith Mercenary allowed me to achieve 11 FPA normal attack (well, ofc) and gave me some damage and especially some much needed AR.

I also had Gore Riders stashed, which I only used once (Hell Baal).

Journey
Big part of the journey, from being Absolute Beginners to a level of total Diamond Dogs is already shared in my Sept thread.

Take a look at these posts if you haven't read them, or would like to read them again: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 & #6.

What I didn't mention was that a little leveling phase was made after entering Hell. Arkaine's and CoA needed some more levels, so I re-spec'd to a Pit running Poison Nec for that. Apart from that I played according to the build (well, kind of, as I was a caster until lvl 69). Corpse Explosion was not abused apart from the Hell leveling session.

I knew the greatness of DV beforehand, but during this playthrough I learned to appreciate it even more. Such a wonderful tool to have.

Ookay, let's take it easy. Waves were done without huge problems. Diane had to be resurrected a few times though. I think these got her and also wave three, that had Conviction.. Baal was easy, as Decrepify pretty much shuts him from using too much of his skills. I played all the Act V with P1 settings, I think. Outside areas had a lot of skeleton archers, mages and slingers. Dim Vision was used a lot. No deaths in this act.

Aftermath
Meleemancer was a nice change of pace to my usual builds. Despite his OK life, DR,damage numbers, and couple nice curses, he was a bit fragile at times. That made his playing a bit slower and more careful than the basic "rush in and smash" melee toons I've had.

I didn't calculate how much damage lvl 16 Bone Spear does with full synergies. Probably not so much, but it was a nice little addition to the build anyway.

I could see me doing something similar again, but maybe trying something different like having some more company as meatshields, maybe bigger and better curse arsenal as well.

I can record David's playing and I will add the video here a bit later.

Excuse me for that. I'm way too lazy to edit anything out just now. But the build. It's just a Paladin with full Vengeance, Conviction, and as much synergies as possible. I went with couple more points in lightning one, just to have a little more max res on that one. And maybe also more dmg to the element that might be the one with least immunities.

I went all vita after the necessary strength for the gear. It was more than enough, this char was suprisingly sturdy without block etc. I was expecting it to be almost glass gannon-like, but with that merc and hit points numbers, it was far from glass cannon. It was no fast, but always enough time to hit a healing potion or two while things got heated with that much life.

How it was done:
I wanted to do something different in normal. I equipped full Milabreaga's as soon as possible. Until act 4 I went with one point Zeal and Might. After that I started slowly to gear towards the final build. I ran Pindle until 40 and something. Nightmare was done with normal Ribcracker. And then upgraded one when I hit level 56. I rushed through NM with players 1. I wanted to experience the full build asap...

Then the reality hit me: I'd need high levels for the two unique pieces I wanted to wear.. So, instead of playing it all the way as Vengeance Paladin, I made a quick re-spec. Levels 76-85 were played as a Hammerdin. I ran Pits while that.

The last part of the act 1 and the whole act 2 and 3 were played as /players 8. Act 4 was on players 3, act 5 was on players 5. I could've stayed on higher settings, but I thought that there would be some harder situations. But it was not so; act 4 was too easy, as wast the last act. I believe that the only problems I would've have been maybe in Chaos Sanctuary and with the Baal minions..

All in all, a pretty strong char. And a character that really uses his mercenary. I liked that. I think that merc's freeze aura and Decrepify helped a lot. Without that kind of a crowd control, this would have been a lot harder play through.

Maybe the biggest threat on my journey: the last wave. These buddies were extra fast and Lister had Fanaticism. Nice. A little separation was in order. After Lister was down, they were a piece of cake.

Introduction
My Zod God sept has achieved the half-point, and beyond. Donna has been in the making for a few months already. Inspiration for Donna was to make a different kind of Enchatress, as I had already went to totally unusual direction with her weapon choice. Insert 2 x Dragon, add synergy for the Hydra, go fight!

To make it work without too much problems, I added some protection in the form of inner PDR. It became one of the main themes for the character and worked relatively well, given that I didn't raise the players setting too high.

Two sockets by Larzuk to my circlet pretty much sealed the decision, and there was no more question marks what I am going to do to survive and achieve certain break points. Adding enough IAS, PDR, resists etc. wouldn't have been an easy task without that, and I'd call it my most important single item along with the weapon and the Dragons of course.

She achieved 79 PDR and 60 IAS (11 FPA, I think). Later in Hell 79 PDR wasn't huge anymore, depending on situation, but it really made still a big difference. Without that, she would have been almost too fragile, maybe.

Haven't calculated her Hydra dmg, but I could see that they really made quite nice damage. It was a nice surprise, as the last synergy (Fire Bolt) is not even maxed yet!

Frozen River was full of Sirens/Harpyais or what are the equivalents there, both types anyway. Not bad. Also snakes, as was with Glacial Trail. Nothing too dangerous happened. These with P3 and 79 PDR are good, but they melt to my dmg almost too fast, heh.

... and so did Lister. What an anti-climax. Well, other than that, waves and Baal were fine. Found Trang Oul's Guis (helm, Bone Visage) from the Throne and Baal dropped me a Buriza. I seem to have also ilvl73 Sounding GC of Life (+21), so I think that dropped when I was in Act I. Only some hazy memories about that one, but as far as drops go, it was the best ofc.

Next up: Janis the max damage Tiger Striker just got her final weapon Zod'd, and is ready to save the Sanctuary.

Yay, my second Mat of the week and second Mat overall. After parking my trapsin in Hell A4 for a bit, I wanted to make a sorc. for mf'ing Mephisto, so I attempted to make a Blizz sorc. As my first sorceress, I was amazed at how powerful she was, owning all monsters in 1-2 casts of blizzard, even in Hell. However, there definitely were some major difficulties against cold immunes. A monster that managed to give me a tough time in both NM and Hell was Radament. NM wasn't too bad because it was NM after all and I just used Spellsteel on switch to keep him decrep and let my merc take him down. However, Hell Radament was JUST GOD AWFUL! I think it took me a total time of 30 minutes to clear the room he was in and then take him down. The room he was in was jam-packed wall to wall with cold immune horror mages and spearcat-type monsters who were also cold immune.-_- AWFUL, JUST AWFUL. I went from 1 million in my gold stash to 200k because my merc died so many times. Eventually I finally got it down to Radament VS me and merc, and from there it was just a matter of time.

ACT3 is my bestest-most-favoritest awesome act ever! Seriously, who's the sick employee at Blizzard North who decided to do that??? why? why? Even with teleport, that place was awful, and made even worse by the abundance of cold immunes and my merc. OH, GOD, MY MERC! If you ever see a desert merc for hire by the name of Pratham, please hire him, then fire him, and re-hire him, then fire him again so he loses enough self-esteem to never return to the Desert Corp and hopefully drown himself in some quicksand. I wanted to try out a Prayer/Insight merc for the crazy synergy-thing, and I don't know about anyone else's experience with this, but it just didn't benefit me at all. He failed to keep me alive with prayer most of the time, let alone himself, but maybe I just play too recklessly. For that reason, I could've forgiven him if it was just that, but he was the stupidest merc I've ever had, and that's saying something since I see many people naming these guys Mr. Morons. In Act3 when I needed him to tank all those cold immunes for me, he would just run backwards AWAY from the monsters and leave me out in front to get swarmed my armies of flayers *DEAD*. I even witnessed him hiding behind some TREES while I was busy being mobbed :(. His sorry behind was fired and was replaced by the defiance merc, Durga, who was much more resolute in his vow to protect his patron.

After that, the game was a breeze. Ancients were handled at /p3 and I was lucky in getting only 1 cold immune on my first go. He was handled with Static and an orb with +2 sorc skill +3 meteor for a total lvl 12 meteor. Brothers Diablo and Baal apparently had a major beef with Isenhart, because Diablo coughed up his head and Baal spit out his right arm with the shield attached...sad face.

On Claw Viper Temple:
It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, it was annoying to get boinked in the face like that a few times but luckily I managed to avoid the large packs of vipers while TP'ing around. When I entered lvl 2 my itchy TP finger was ready to go and I didn't even bother to look around; just TP'ed right on top of the chest, popped, grabbed the ammy, then save&exit in 1.5 sec :).

Anya Quest:
This wasn't that hard either, I think I died once because I tp'ed on top of a mass of the Witch-Bird/Lady monsters and took a bunch of hits. I tried to recover my body b/c I had opened a Town portal just in case, but I died again so I ended up just remembering where I had died b/c luckily the Quest icon popped up where I had happened to die, meaning that Anya was close by and restarting and just teleporting to that same place again. Once I found the little platform where Anya was I just teleported in front of the bridge to draw out the Frozensteins (luckily there were no monsters behind me) and after they started crossing the bridge, I quickly teleported BEHIND Anya, clicked her, opened TP, talked to Malah, entered TP, gave Anya potion and again just saved&exited in a matter of 2 seconds. Hehe, I know cheesy.:whistling:

As for the CE monsters and FE monsters that people complain about, ever since I used to die to them ALL the time in the middle of quests when I first started playing D2, since then I don't think I've died to CE or FE blasts even once because I'm so paranoid I immediately check for CE or FE if I see a boss in Hell. When I do, I immediately back away from the blast radius and just let my merc finish b/c he never seems to die to those things.

As for the Defiance merc, there wasn't any special reason for hiring him over the HF merc, I think it was more of a random on-the-spot decision as long as it wasn't Pratham-the Moron-Coward I had to put up with.

*edit* Oh yead, btw about that wand, it was even better than what you think b/c I forgot to mention the +10 FCR, +21 Life, +39 Lightning Resist, +29 Fire resist xD

She started out heavily twinked with the following gear:
- A 5os Long Bow stuffed with jewels of Envy (=100 poison damage over 2 secs)
- A 2os Skull Cap with more jewels of Envy (=40 ....)
- A 3os Breast Plate with, guess...
TWO jewels of envy and one rare jewel with the Envy mod and -15% reqs.
- Some strength GC's to wear all of this at lvl. 1

/P8 act I was a breeze. /P8 act II less so, because those skeletons resist poison quite well. I made it to lvl. 24 and changed the wardrobe to suit my tele-blizz-tele style better.
- A 6os Crystal Sword stuffed with Tir's (credit goes to nebux for this tip)
That's 12 mana after each kill. Nice!
- A 3os armor stuffed with PSapphires (extra mana). I'll pick up a 4os armor some day to improve upon this concept.

Fast forward (literally, I tele'd across the game so fast it made me head spin) to lvl. 62 and the fun began.
- Shako, Cold skiller (+29 life!), a large part of end-game gear.
I can't remember anything from NM except pulling a Fal from the hellforge (**).
Once I hit lvl. 65 I MP'ed with a group of people (thanks Ashmer for setting that one up!) until I hit 75. End-game gear in place people. Critters beware!

Hell.

Literally.

Or, I'd better say: Act V.

Let's just say this. If each of the little clouds of teleport smoke left a gold coin behind I'd better go back to act V and become a millionare.
Rescuing Anya was tricky. Luring an extra fast cursed gang of Frozenstein and his sub-zero pals out to get to her was quite a challenge. Good for me I don't give up easily, because who wouldn't want +10 res all?

The ancients. Oh my god.
First try: Merc goes splat. Two CI's left. TP.
Second try: Merc goes splat again (lvl. 78 mercs suck against ancients). TP
Third try: Merc receives the hurty end of a thrown axe in the skull and goes splat. TP. No TP. Scrolls gone. [colorful, and naughty, expletives]
Reload. Mule some purples over from ATMA.
Last try: I luck out, only one cold immune. My merc and I wear a crown of fire. My merc goes after Korlic and they both mess each other up. I feed him purples. Only one purple left. Who will die first?

The merc won. My sweat-drenched computer chair lost.

On to the WSK. I had to reroll the throne a few times until the OK's went away. I had to dispose of some cold immune batwomen, but quick tele's on top of them gave my merc good hints where to poke.

Wave 1: Blizz. Gone.
Wave 2: Blizz. Gone. Drat, skeletons. *switch* Fire wall. Gone. *switch back*
Wave 3-5, and Baal: Blizz. Gone.

Woot. Matriarch!

That's right. No leech. Only potions.

*: This is the first time I tried this shield on a sorc. I love it. My reckless style of teleporting right on the toes of evil and staticing/blizzing away loves the fact that 45% of physical damage doesn't hurt anymore.

**: Hell HF spat out a Io rune. I threw it on the ground, and cast twenty blizzards on the stupid rock.
It made me feel better and I moved on. Better luck next mat/pat.

Everyone should have one. She is the fastest Meph Runner out there after all.

But I didn't find it funny, because I don't like to bypass stuff. Blizz sorc obliterates everything not cold immune and sucks badly anywhere else. Sure, my Delirium-powered merc could do the job, but it is a bit tedious. Specially when facing those nasty CI merc-killing succubi, or the OK on steroids (did they always run that fast?).

Anyway, Ancients were easy and quick, and Travincal wasn't difficult at all. WSK was a bit scary, though. I got all the CI I could get, of course, so I just teleported right to Baal and cleared the throne room itself only.

I didn't even try to do Anya's Quest. I could reach max resists anyway.

Plans for the future
Keep doing some Meph Runs. I will also try to finish Anya's Quest to get to Pindle. And that's that.

A little bit about the sorceress now. She didnt actually finished hell at level **.. more at lvl 86 or so but I couldnt be annoyed to make the topic till now.

This is a really strange build. Can kill anything on Hell in p8 ... thats not Cold Immune. And 1/4 of the mobs are cold immune in Hell >_>. Its somewhat hard parking them all so to have success in Hell its a bit of a MP dependant build.

I got somewhat rushed through hell so there wasnt any interesting stories. I got some okay drops from first time boss kills like a Meduza's Gaze from Baal and such. Hellforge drops were Fal in Nighmare and a Um in Hell. Not too shabby.

I can't think of anything else to write right now so if you think I forgot something do point it out.

Talking briefly about my cold sorc experience: I destroyed more than one mouse doing pindle runs. At one time, I was at grail -25, iirc, running nothing except pindle, hell meph and some AT runs. I started the char before receiving the items, because I wanted to have another coldsorc, even if I wasn’t contemplated in the giveway. Then, I restarted the char. I was going to play with a blizzballer and respec, but what’s the fun on that? I will start a cold sorc from the beginning.

Problem: Merc will have to be able to beat CIs on den of evil, eventual lord de seis, etc. He’s more than able for the task.

Meet Turandot!


You kinda noticed I like opera. Turandot is my favored opera (one of them). Puccini’s operas are so great. So, opera spoilers:

From the top of my head: Turandot is a smart princess: she doesn’t want to get married. But that decision wasn’t based on common sense. One of her acestors was taken by force – or so she heard – so she made a promise: staying away from men.

Every prince that wanted to marry her had to answer three riddles; misses = loses head. So she had lots of stakes outside her palace with heads. Her heart was cold as the winter.

Bottomline: “The” name for a pvp cold sorc.

Questing times:

Act1 started Lvl -> Act2 cleared, Lvl 17. – 2h
Act 3 cleared, lvl 19 – ~40 min.
Lvl25 + act 4 cleared – ~1 hour
Lv40 + act 5 cleared – ~1hour
4h40m for normal = shame :)
NM up ancients way wp, lvl 43 – 1h

I hit hell pindle in 2 play sessions and killed baal today.


Hell mini guide:


Some people wonder: Is it difficult to run a pure cold sorc on hell? No. My merc wears Treachery, Crown of Thieves (I don’t have Tal Mask), Insight Partizan (I don’t have a Tresher). He was able to kill CIs on Den of Evil, one ancient (Talic), all the cold mages on wave 2 and Lister. Merc will kill whatever you can’t obliterate, but have to. He needs to be at least at level 70 in order to be able to do the task.

I just teleported around the cold imunes on LK and “zerged” myself over anya a couple times to get the quest (just click frost anya before dying, then click Malah before S&E game - twice). I rerolled RoF until I got no CIs on the way of my outstanding pul rune.

Agains Lord de Seis, I used
Static Field + Telekinesis + Merc, after killing all the guys around with Blizzard.

Against the hell ancients, you need to teleport up and down until you can fight one by one. Merc will have to kill Korlic. In order to do make him do so, walk away from Korlic (like, with legs, don’t teleport) and try to keep the merc engaged with the ancient, that will stop jumping around.

If something goes horribly wrong (like CI/PI Corpsefire or something), S&E and restart the game. Just get the merc with meditation pike around and teleport past everything. Try to always keep moving and don’t panic. 105% FCR and FHR helps a lot.

You want to have positive all res, high lightning res, a big fat mana pool (for “faster insight regen”). Other than that, you can do it with a vipermagi, 10 FCR somewhere and dual spirit (105 FCR, humongous FHR, Skills, mana, vitality, etc.). Use the rest of gear slots to hit a comfortable balance. I was in hurry, so I just equipped anything to hit my personal breakpoints (I.e.: I reached pindle wearing a Bahamuth Circlet).


Future Plans:


I’ll level up her on MFO and use her solely for PvP. I won’t use the items I received on the giveway during the MFO because they are pvp-oriented - reaching Mat was too much PvM for them.

I’ll use a couple items my other sorc found on NM andy and some items Paradigmshift traded with me on a very generous trade. I’ll equip her tomorrow, so I’m not really sure how much MF she’ll pack (I not even had a char by Monday, so we’re good on the schedule).

Natalya the Sorceress of the Icy Field


When Natalya was a only a baby her parents left her to die in the swedish cold winter. No on ever found out why, but some say they had their reasons. When the little child died her soul remained on earth. The pure soul was tortued by other lost souls as the went by. The soul of Natalya reamained calm and pure. At last the Goddes of Ice, Aceae Coldwhisper stepped in. Natalyas soul was given a new body of a sorceress and became Acaeae's scholar. She learned very quickly in the arts of cold (Icebolt slvl 20, Iceblast slvl 20, Frost Nova slvl 1, Glacial Spike slvl 10, Blizzard slvl 20, Frozen Armor slvl 1, Shiver Armor slvl 1). When Natlaya was 24 years old she had become one of the most powerful sorceress in the world. When she left the Ice palace t Aceae learned her the godly power of mastering the cold (Cold Mastery slvl 17).

She came to places she never been before. When she finally encountered a village Liphaey she met another kind of sorcerer, Odin FireHand. He told her he had been defeating te three prime evils but yet again Diablo had rised in the form of a human. Odin told Natalya he had to stay in his village but gave her directions where she should go. This was the start of Natalyas adventure.

While traveling to the rouge camp where Odin had sent her she developed her power beyond the arts of cold. As a sorceress she learned to move thing with her mind (Telekenesis slvl 1) and to teleport a short distance (Teleport slvl 1). When she finally came to the rouge camp she met the man Odin had saved from Tristram, Deckard Cain. He told her the prime evils once again walked the earth. A new soulstone had been creaed and now Diablo, Mepthiso and Baal were upon to destroy the world. Before she left Akara learned her how to restore her energy and how to shock her enemies almost to death (Warmth slvl 1, Static Field slvl 1).

As the adventure went on Natalya met a Knight Templar, the Paladin Lancelot (played by SebOlsson) who joined her in the battle of evil. The traveled to the desert whre they met Azrael. He told them his brother had went mad and insane after the homecoming of defeating the prime evils the first time. His name was Chalan. Natalya rememberd Odin had told her about his friend and yes, this was his brother. Azrael was as his brother very good with polearms. He had two weapons. He had inherit the weapon of his brother, Insight, along with his own called The Obediance. Also Lancelot found a new friend in the desert which no one ever guessed what his name was so it remained unknown to the other three. Soon they reached the gate of hell and heaven. This was a place full of abnormal creatures. The battles became harder and harder and in a fight, Natalya and Lancelot lost each other. Both of them were about to seek for the Hellforge Finally at place they reunited.

With only Baal left after Diablos death they traveled to seek out the Ancients of the Worldstone. At last they were granted access and when the encountered Baal there was a long and a hard battle. When the end finally came to an end for the last of the three evils and bow of the wind appeared. Natalya used her mind to capture and the lost weapon Windforce. She carved her name on hit and gvae it to Lancelot. Both of them returned to their homes, Lancelot to his love in caste in the cold Sweden. Natalya stayed with the goddes and kept developing her powers in the cold to one day become a goddes herself.

Everything else was self-found through magic find runs Slippy did on the way up (and a few lesser important items were imported like the ancient's pledge and a few charms, but none of the uniques were imported).

There was also a skin of the vipermagi via Tazdaz's giveaway I used at some points, and a kelpsie snare I used when magic finding mephisto.

Other notable finds
Azurewrath, nature's peace, a second raven frost, Um from nightmare forge, Ist from hellforge (in my ali baba's), 2 Kos and a Fal, 1 barb + combat skills gc, 1 barb + masteries and +36 life gc, and other random stuff. And yes the Eschuta's was self-found too (by hell mephisto).

There were parts of the game were my merc had to pretty much do all of the fighting in hell. Certain parts of the Act 3 jungle (cold immune flayers :/), the act 5 ice caves, act 4 spawners (yuck, this took forever, I think I eventually skipped them completely by teleporting). Anything that wasn't cold immune died horrible quick deaths. My standard setup had me with level 26 blizzard (because I wanted to magic find as I progressed through the game).

My attack string against bosses is blizzard followed by 2-3 ice blasts repeated till dead. There's just enough time inbetween blizzards to get off about 2-3 ice blasts (depending on how much fc I have).

Against Cold Immunes I spammed out static while letting my merc kill, using teleport as needed to make sure my merc took out priority targets (like ressers).

My first character since restart, and took me a while until I`ve killed Hell Ball. For the first time ever :prop:
It is fun playing with her, although I couldn`t kill all monsters (I couldn`t kill about 10 minion pack bosses wich was immune to cold/lightning/stone skin/heal aura or something like that).
Claw viper temple in hell was pretty hard to play cause everyone there was CI, and it took me a while to kill everyone (I always play full clears). So it was in Tal Rasha`s tombs in hell, damn hard to play, but I did it.

I can make some new characters now :).

Notable finds: really don't remember many. Io rune dropped in Nightmare (can't remember where), Raven Frost from a chest in the Bloody Foothills in Hell. Hellforge runes were Ist and Pul.

For some weird reason I was thinking Arachnid's Mesh was level 82, not level 80, which is why she's still wearing Snowclash. I've rolled about 8 Spirits at this point trying to get a 35% FCR one, but no luck yet.

This character actually started life as a v1.11 HF rushee, so when I started building her she was a level 45 Champion. I decided to basically start from the beginning of Nightmare and progress through the game from that point on, but with the intention of skipping quite a lot, since I wanted to start running AT. So I geared her up and spent her skill points and started killing stuff. Probably goes without saying that Nightmare was... easy. The entire act can be summed up as: 1) Run around in circles. 2) Cast Blizzard. 3) ??? 4) Profit!

Hell was interesting. I knew I'd be skipping lots due to CIs, but I was a bit concerned about certain areas, Chaos Sanctuary in particular since OKs are CI and I knew I couldn't really rely on my merc to kill them due to IM. Sure enough, it was a pain, but not as bad as I'd expected. The only OK I ended up having to kill was De Seis, I just ignored the rest of them. Predictably, my merc died more times than I can count. The funny thing is that after worrying so much about clearing the CS, it was when I went to kill Big D that I had real problems. Diablo himself wasn't bad, but I stupidly stood in his fire and died, and I didn't have a portal up. No big deal, I thought, I'll just teleport back to the CS and finish him off. Right, except that the path from the waypoint to the CS was full of all the stuff I'd teleported past the first time, mostly CIs. Trying to teleport past them naked was a real problem, since I'd get stuck in hit recovery and die, and even when I tried to take it slowly my merc couldn't make much progress on his own since he kept switching targets. I think I eventually ended up dying like 10 times just trying to get back to the CS, and I didn't want to S&E since I'd have to clear the CS again. I finally made it though, and Diablo died to Blizzard, and all was well.

The other areas that gave me problems were trying to get Lam Esen's Tome, killing Shenk, and rescuing Anya. Just too many cold immunes. Eventually I gave up and figured I'd just come back and rush myself through those quests on my Meteorb (yeah I know, cheesy). Of course the upside to all this is that anything that wasn't CI died very quickly. This was the first char I've played that could handle Hell on P8 without breaking a sweat, though I did take it back down to P1 in some areas, like the CS and WSK. Baal's minions and Baal himself died easily enough. Drops were crap, as usual. ;) After that I went and finished up the remaining quests.

Not much else to say really. I spent most of the game just teleporting past everything and casting the occasional Blizzard. 80 is a bit low for me to hit Matriarch, usually I'm around 82 or 83, but I'll level quickly enough in the AT I'm sure. Oh, I forgot to say whether this character was fun, didn't I? She was okay, I guess. It was weird being completely OP in some areas and totally helpless in others. I think a Blizzballer would be more fun overall. I really hate being forced to skip stuff.

Level 91 because of MF runs. She has done about 1200 Meph runs (perfect Mara's being the highlight), 1000 Pindle runs (Astreon's being the best, I think) and 50 AT runs.

I wanted to do some Meph runs today and found her at the Crystalline Passage waypoint, half-naked. Evidently I had stripped her of her MF gear some time back (probably to equip my fire sorc for the alvl 85 tournament) Anyway, I decided to kill Baal instead. I slapped on whatever I could find -- enough to take her to 75 res all with a good amount of +skills.

Questing was a breeze. None of the usual problems associated with single element attacks. Anything not cold immune was killed with blizzards and/or glacial spikes. The merc could handle the immunes easily, even without an uber-pwnzer weapon. Teleport right on top of a monster, static followed by telekinesis always did the trick. Stronger packs had to be broken up. I don't recall parking a single monster.

The usual horror situtations were non-issues. CI dolls, vampires, trees, OKs and snow yetis were a bit of a pain, but Mizan could kill them with help. Nothing worth reporting until the claw viper temple, which spawned two CI snake species. The first boss pack beat us back to the stairs and required several scrambles back to the desert to take the heat off the merc, but he eventually did what was expected of him. After that, a set of jars forced the snakes to march in Indian formation, easy meat. Fangskin's level was even easier: teleport on to the altar, grab the amulet and stand behind Mizan to prevent knockback. After that, it was a matter of time.

Act 3 had cold immune flayers. Ugh. Stormtree and his cold immune pals slaughtered Mizan. Bottleneck time again. Easy from then on. Act 4 myst have been easy -- I don't remember much of it. I did abandon a game or three with cold immune spawners (having Mizan kill the cold immune pups one by one would have taken *years*)

Act 5 had cold immunes everywhere, but nothing too hard. Again, Frozenstein's mob, typically the terror of those focusing on cold damage, fell easily once separated. The ancients were killed on the first roll :cool: I didn't even get a look at Talic and Madawc's mods, I noticed Holy Freeze but they died before I could read the others. Cold immune Korlic was Spectral Hit Mana Burn, and Mizan took care of him with minimal fuss.

Her only death was to a cold immune extra strong cursed multishot slinger boss in the Frigid Highlands. While there is no shame in dying to that combination of mods, it was a death that could have easily been avoded. There were a couple of other occasions, though, where she *somehow* survived in situations that really ought to have resulted in death.

Help me optimize a 1k Orber

Now armed with 8 cold skillers, I rebuild Layla. She mat'd at clvl 76 or so, but here are her current stats:

Sadly, I'm currently unable to make screenshots, but once I figure it out, I'll post pics and update my avatar.

Now some thoughts in my continual comparison between Bliz and Orb:

1. I have a clvl 97 blizzballer who runs Baal /p1, /p8, /p3 in under 3:30. Layla-II was running just the minions (/p1 first two waves, /p8 rest) in under 3:20. That seems a respectable time and thus she could be capable of being pushed to clvl 99.

2. Having a better Fireball is nice for clearing the Throne and the wave 2 skeletons. My blizzballer has 3.5k or so, and the extra damage is obvious Layla-II.

3. Orb > Bliz for clearing the throne. The AoE is simply better, and Orb looks better.

4. Because I am not heavily invested in G-Spike, I must spam it in between orbs to keep minions frozen.

5. Orb takes finesse to aim it appropriately because of the location of the final explosion. Blizzard does not require this, and thus is more of a brute force skill.

6. There is no Number Six. I blame durf.

7. If you under/over-shoot the final explosion, the Orb's damage is greatly reduced. The trick is to get as many of the shards to hit.

8. Bliz works better initially to kill a tight-knit pack, Orb works better on individual targets. However, bliz does have a heavily invested Ice Blast and Glacial Spike to deal with individual targets. Despite that, orb is better vs. single targets.

9. Because of the aiming, I must always evaluate where I am standing to ensure the most damage. Teleport and G-Spike are my best friends.

10. I'm not sure which build I like better, the blizzballer or the orber. Orb is my favorite skill in all of D2.

I'm currently running numbers comparing the above setup to a low-str build, or for folks without CoH or an 07 valor. I'm looking at facet'd Ormus and Lidless to make up the damage. I think the damage loss/increase will be minimal, and thus a good build for folks. The challenge I see with that setup is resistance. As you see above, my 8 sc spots are dedicated to resistance charms.

Also, orb increases in damage slowly. At least between 40 and 43, I was only getting about a 30 point increase to min/max damage, counting my +X% cold damage. Thus, when I went from 2 cold skillers to 8 and added an additional + skill from spirit, I only increased about 210 points, about 30 per skill point. To do better than that with 5% cold facets, I would need to be do a 600 point orb without any synergies or +X% from gear. According to a certain skill calculator, an slvl 40 orb (what you get when you use lidless and ormus and the rest of the above gear) is 577-581. When you throw in +120% cold skill damage (perfect DF/NWV/Ormus, 20 in ice bolt and 4 facets), you get 1269.4-1278.2 orb damage. That minimal increase is not worth it to for me invest for 5% facets and a 30% DF. Neither is it worth it to lose the various mods on spirit.

I'm also going to test the Orber in a PvP setting, if and when I get internet I can MP over. See you in the moor.

She got through Normal and Nightmare within a couple of days, there were no problems as expected. The first three acts of Hell were tricky, but I don't recall having any major problems.

The first challenge in Hell was the Chaos Sanctuary. The Oblivion Knights (including Lord De Seis) made it difficult due to their cold immunity. A combination of Static Field, Teleport and my merc made it possible to get through it. Diablo himself was very easy.

Most of Act 5 was fine, it was generally a case of teleporting. About 4 days into the build she had reached Hell Ancients. Unfortunately the fact that Korlic was always CI has slipped my mind. She was semi-untwinked, my merc was too weak offensively and defensively, it was very much a block in my road.

At this point i decided to do some runs for both exp (hence the higher then normal level) and MF. Anyway, long story short... second time around the Ancients were not a problem. With the exception of the CI's in the throne room, the rest of the journey was very straight forward.

Other notes:

- I decided to take the vita route as opposed to max block, i think it works well for this build.

- NM forge: fal (i think)
- Hell forge: lem

I'm back to my usual level of forge luck :rolleyes: 😃

- Best find: Arachnid Mesh (Hell Mephisto)
- Other notable finds: Que-Hegan's Wisdom, Gore Rider, Homunculus, Arioc's Needle

Introducing Matriarch Salome the untwinked BlizzSorc.


Inspired by the MFO I decided to create a dedicated MF runner, unfortunately she wasn't quite ready in time to participate in this MFO (next time for sure). Not having seriously done runs before (I have tended to get bored after the first half dozen or so runs) it is all a bit of a novelty.

I haven't played soft core in years, nice this thing of being able to die and then just keep going ... I've also never played a BlizzSorc before ... some things have been seriously lacking from my D2 experience.

Untwinked, because that's the way I like to play, plus I like the idea of seeing how far one character can get towards the grail.
1.14d, RWM and GoMule.

But the running comes after, first was getting to Matriarch.

I decided to go the journey without using respecs, saving them for fine-tuning Salome for running.

Normal was mostly done with a bow and Static Charge. Glacial Spike and Blizzard more and more used as the mana became available. Our first Deeds was to Diablo at level 25 - I mistimed the teleport on top of him and ended up landing in his lightning hose. Luckily it was SC and life went on. Normal finished at level 31. We then did Normal Baal runs to level 52.

Nightmare was easy, defeating Baal at level 64 and then running him to level 75.

Hell has a lot more cold immunes. We skipped most of them, although Static and the merc could take care of them if they needed to be killed. We also had a 2/20 orb with +3 meteor/+2 firewall on switch, which helped. I was keen to do some Countess runs to get a few runes, but with her and her minions always being CI that was rather painful and the merc was still wielding a Partizan Insight, so took his time killing things. After a few runs and no decent runes Salome moved on.

When we reached Act 2 we did 100 AT runs to get to level 85 and see what dropped. A Shako early on was a great boost! The RoF had a nice super chest map, so after defeating Diablo we took the time to do 100 runs to see what might drop, without any luck. Then, it was back to AT to do a few runs to reach level 86.

Salome's second Deeds was to Frozenstein, just too many cold immunes in the Frozen River! And then it was on to Baal, defeating him at level 86. An extra Baal run ticked Salome over to level 87.

p1 all the way and not worrying about MF meant we had pretty ordinary gear (the merc was still using that Insight partizan), but gear doesn't really seem all that important for Blizzard.
