On the old forum, I usually made my mat/pat threads with some historical flair. So far on this forum, I avoided that partly because it requires a bit more time to research and write those posts. We'll see if I can thread the needle and make a decent mat/pat in my old style in a few hours. Fun! (start: 3.32 PDT 6/27/2021)

Early life

Julie d'Aubigny was born in 1673[1] to Gaston d'Aubigny, a secretary to Louis de Lorraine-Guise, comte d'Armagnac, the Master of the Horse for King Louis XIV. Her father trained the court pages, and so his daughter learned dancing, reading, drawing, and fencing alongside the pages.[2][better source needed] In 1687, the Count d'Armagnac had her married to Sieur de Maupin of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, and she became Madame de Maupin (or simply "La Maupin" per French custom). Soon after the wedding, her husband received an administrative position in the south of France, but the Count kept her in Paris for his own purposes.

La Maupin started out with a 1.09 Ravenclaw, twitchthroe, iratha's set, cathan's ring, manald heal ring, and cthon's threads.

Most of the early game was really easy, of course. This character will probably be the last of my unearthed characters. I think she was at lvl 10 when I started up again.

Levelling

The Paris Opéra hired La Maupin in 1690, having initially refused her. She befriended an elderly singer, Bouvard, and he and Thévenard convinced Jean-Nicolas de Francine, master of the king's household, to accept her into the company. She debuted as Pallas Athena in Cadmus et Hermione by Jean-Baptiste Lully the same year. She performed regularly with the Opéra, first singing as a soprano, and later in her more natural contralto range. The Marquis de Dangeau wrote in his journal of a performance by La Maupin given at Trianon of Destouches' Omphale in 1701 that hers was "the most beautiful voice in the world".[3] In Paris, and later in Brussels, she performed under the name Mademoiselle de Maupin because singers were addressed as "mademoiselle" whether or not they were married. Until 1705, La Maupin sang in new operas by Pascal Collasse, André Cardinal Destouches, and André Campra. In 1702, André Campra composed the role of Clorinde in Tancrède specifically for her bas-dessus (contralto) range. She sang for the court at Versailles on a number of occasions, and again performed in many of the Opéra's major productions. She appeared for the last time in La Vénitienne by Michel de La Barre (1705).

It should come as no surprise that I went through many, many gear changes. That's normal for any highly twinked character.

My end-game plan was to use either my Death CB, my upped Ribby, or maybe something else. Oath runewords came to mind.

My main concern was whether I'd use my Death CB in end game or not. I happen to have a very good, upped ribby: 294%. So, that's what I used for most of Hell. I used the Death CB a bit, and it was pretty good: 10k-24k charged Tiger Stirke.

I have other good items that I didn't try. For example, I have a 1.09/1.07 The Grandfather that would have boosted my life and mana pretty nicely.

Deaths

She retired from the opera in 1705 and took refuge in a convent, probably in Provence, where she is believed to have died in 1707 at the age of 33.

Well, well, well, if it isn't the consequences of my own choices. :) Since the real La Maupin was not a fighter of any sort, her death is not that interesting. The D2 La Maupin does have some stories, though.

The build was very safe when I was paying attention. I had several deaths, but I think that they were all about attention, not items/skills.

For a long time, I didn't use Cloak of Shadows at all, but it became so useful in Hell Act 5, that I had to keep using it whenever I could.

I swapped around players settings a lot in act 5. I did some on p/1, some on /p3 and some on /p5. I had a lot of crashes towards the end, so I mainly kept it on /p1 so that I could finish without too many restarts. I also had planned on using the Iron Golem charges on the Metalgrid, but since I started getting a lot of crashes, I gave that up. It's a shame that the IG doesn't persist between games, though, to be fair, I think the first one (ctc Amplify Damage rare legend sword) was lost due to a death.

The gameplay loop was somewhat advanced, though not as much as my two previous assassin mats. Basically, BC, SM, BC, BO, BoS, then leave CoS on right click, swap back to the ribby. Then, run around to gather a couple of groups of enemies, hit CoS, start Tiger Striking the nearest enemy, use normal attack to release charges. (I never did try incorporating Cobra Strike, so that's something to try in, I guess, pit runs.) Once one or two enemies are down, swap to CTA/Spirit and spam up some Death Sentries. Switch back to ribby and thwack away!

For a long time, I wasn't using CoS at all, but it became quite useful later in Hell, especially in Act 5. Around that time, I also started to get annoyed with the Shadow Master. I've never really liked that skill because she has the terrible habit of Mind Blasting, and then converting, enemies in narrow passages. I definitely despawned her for the Maggot Lair.

AR at end game was 11514 for TS and 9867 (uncharged) to 1125X* (fully charged) for normal attack. Between the Blessed Aim merc, Enchant from Demon Limb, AR on all jewelry, and charms, hits landed pretty reliably.

One last note on gameplay. (Bear in mind: I recently got a new mouse [finally switching from Logitech to Razer after ~20 years of only buying Logitech for peripherals] and, unrelatedly, it seems like my cubital tunnel syndrome has gotten a bit worse in last year or so. :cautious: ) The cadence of the gameplay loop was a bit hard for me to keep. I definitely spent 5+% of the time just standing there doing nothing since an enemy died or ran away and I didn't swap left/right click fast enough. Maybe I've encountered something akin to the dodge bug for amazons. Is there such a bug for assassins?

Great! I restarted yesterday with a Martial Art assassin, nice to have a related Mat thread.

I will probably go with the Nat's set on my side, not sure about the build, maybe a classical Phoenix one.

But I have chosen a dual claws constraint for endgame, so I'll have to think a bit around that :) I may follow the early Ravenclaw route, as it is so powerful!

Oh, and btw...welcome in the Razer family <3
