Item personalization

So, theres this quest in Act 5 where the person lets you personalize an item, without thinking, I went and threw it on a pair of Marrowwalks that I had. Now, whenever I try to trade those (I want gore riders in return), they always say no thanks because of the prefix infront of the item, even though it alters the item in no way shape or form. I'm not even sure why people are so superficial, nobody else can see the name of the items you use anyway :X

Is it possible to remove this name?

Re: Item personalization

Can't remove it, sorry. Eventually you will find someone who is not a petty idiot but since this is Bnet... good luck. Best bet would be to try and trade on these forums since most of the ppl here seem decent.

Re: Item personalization

wow yeah... buncha morons, i wouldnt care if it had the prefix - makes no difference

It used to. Back in the day there was a dupe that utilized the personalization quest and no one would ever trade for an item that had been personalized because it could poof. The people he's running into may be players from those days.

Or they may just be superficial twats.

Well, it kinda depends on what the name was too. Would you buy, for example, "xXxLagGgLizZzarDxXx's" Waterwalk boots - at the regular price? Neither did I... :scratchchin: :whistling: :alright: :jig:

However, "Odin's Stormlash" or "Vlad's Dracul's Grasp" might even give some extra to the price for certain people. In general however, personalizing should be avoided unless you want to use the item yourself.

Re: Item personalization

Hahahahh I totally agree with you.

My friend's character name is something like chinkychink101

I would definitely not trade for any of his personalized items, if he has any.

Re: Item personalization

Back in the day (1.10), I built a barb for the purpose of using a Grand Father Unigue Colossus Blade. It took me damn near forever to find one, they didn't drop out every other Baal run like I had imagined and duping was going nuts so I didn't want to trade for one for fear of the "rust storm" or whatever Blizzard was using to remove duped items. I eventually found one and was so thrilled that I personalized it. As the game went on, other swords came out (rune words) that were better than the GF, so I tried to trade it and had absolutely no luck because everyone thought it was duped. So I said the heck with it, built a very powerful sorc and got one of the barb merc's and let him use the GF. That char was alot of fun to play, my sorc at times wouldn't have to do anything except spectate as this merc just demolished monsters. I remember the merc having the GF sword, Veil of Steel, and Shaftstop Mesh armor. Ah, the good ole days...

Re: Item personalization

I sometimes personalize. Now who wouldn't want 'Kiickass's Crescent Moon'?

Name of characters doing the personalization are key. Quetzalcoatl is a great name. FearlessFred isn't.

Re: Item personalization

Call me a superficial twat, but I refuse to wear a personalized item with a lameass name. Good names I'll proudly wear, but xXGodlyz_HammurzXx gets dumped in a stash.

In agreement with Evrae, why would you trade for a personalized pair when you could a non personalized one for the same price?

Easy answer, you wouldn't. Diablo II is a game that, other than pvm, is largely about item acquirement and "pimping" your character. A personalized item by "Qlixmaxlol", a name that is nothing special if not lame, is not something a player would want to use on their character.

They aren't stupid "bnet" twats (I love how a seemingly large majority of these forums loves to pretend they are "elite users above the common battle.net scum") or morons but normal players with sufficient wealth not to be desperate for marrowalks and therefore preferring ones that they will enjoy using and owning

What difference does a name make to the item? None at all. You can tell people you use marrowwalks, and that's that. It's the same item. If someone offered me "deleted Gore Riders" in return for my marrowwalks, id take them for sure. Like I said, nobody but you will see the item name, D2 isn't like wow where there's an armoury to view everyone's items.

Re: Item personalization

Radalict, please do not use language like that. You could have used other words to illustrate your viewpoint.

With regards to the OP, I personally do look at the name of a personalised item, and also wouldn't use one with a name that I didn't like. It doesn't matter that others won't see it, because I will, and I don't 100% feel like I own the item if I constantly see someone else's character name embroided on it. Likewise, I can most likely get a non-personalised one somewhere anyway. Finally, if I did trade for one then I would sacrifice any opportunity for myself to personalise it (as opposed to get a non-personalised one). All in all, I'd rather look for a non-personalised item instead.

If the item has some godly name on it then it's a different story. Even better if the name flows with the items original name.

Re: Item personalization

I forget. Can a personalized item be over-ridden by another personalization?

My inclination is no. I don't think I've actually personalized anything since around 1.09.

Re: Item personalization

No. once something has been personalized you can't change that.

That being said I am on uswest........Other then gore, what would you trade them for?
I spend a lot of my time MFing and if there is something you would like me to find for you in exchange for them then Lmk
Please

Feel free to PM me anytime or wisper me in game darkfear however I am not on until like late on the weekends and I will not be on tonight.

Re: Item personalization

It can be fun to do, but generally reduces trade values, Always has.
Now you know.
Can do as a keepsake item and give to a mule for a HC Trophy case.
