Is blizzard up to something ? Opinions needed

Hi all,

Everytime I start work I go to some site of mine and battle net. Today I found the start screen being different with some images from diablo, starcraft and warcraft with the date of today. Does anyone have any idea about it? Furthermore there is this srantge announcement from blizzard, http://www.blizzard.com/press/040401.shtml, are some good news on the point to be announced ?

Any suggestions are welcome.

I think they are attempting to be humorous. Does .999 equal 1? As far as your screen malfunction, I have no friggin idea.

Blizzard as always is humourous. But I think I miss expressed myself or you didin't understant what I meant about the battle net site. The battle net site(I mean www.battle.net, not arreat summit) start scrren has been changed, you get an image with the date 10.07.05 with a diablo, starcraft or warcraft image. What do you think is going to happen today?

If you multiply a number by 10, it removes one decimal.
Easy example:
x = 0,9999
10x = 9,999
10x-x = 9x = 8,9991
x = 0,9999

It's just a technical issue. Computers, not even mentioning the human brain, can't calculate using infinite numbers, like 0,999~
The same thing happens when you use the [phi] button on your calculator. You'll never find the correct answer, because it's like 3.14~ too.
Or take a look at this one: 1/3 = 0.333....

It's an easy way to explain things.
Though, that's fine by me, otherwise I'd probably be doing maths till I die. :)

Ow, Blizzard, please keep on making games, instead of this :D

Thx for the reply. The math part part of the reply is not what interest me the most and I understand it (I'm postgraduated in applied math and computer science, crazy me:eek: ). I wanna know what is gonna happen today concerning battle net and blizzard, changed its start screen and especially the fact that and this screen, today's date is written. I'm not a native english speaker so I might not make myself very clear.

They usually do things like this when they announce an expansion pack or a new game. But I've never seen anything like that with all 3 universes...

But it's been a while since they've announced a new anything, so maybe something big id due.

seen on www.purediablo.com (finally an english speaking site I know talking of it)

As Blizzard often do with announcements their regular web site (this time battle.net) is replaced by a full page splash screen. A teaser for an impending announcement, usually a new title or expansion pack. With all good teasers they're pretty cryptic and this one is no different. If you refresh the screen you'll get one of the following images with the date 10.7.05 superimposed on it (apart from one image). Behind each date is a circle and a feint globe so perhaps it's a redesign of the battle.net service. The splash screens are of characters from all three franchises so that doesn't suggest an expansion or sequel to any of the existing titles, why would you include images from Warcraft and Starcraft if the announcement was for Diablo II (other than to throw amateur sleuths off the trail)? It's been known for a few years now that Blizzard are working on another unannounced title and perhaps it's now that they'll welcome a new franchise into the fold. Looking at the source code a message has been commented out which reads "Get Ready".

One last cryptic message is the duplicate image of the Undead Lich from Warcraft that has .999_= 1</B> superimposed on it. This appears to be in reference to one of Blizzard's more bizarre
April Fool's jokes as seen here with this fake press release. Wonder how that ties in with this imminent announcement?

cheers

I've really got no id about that, but I just couldn't resist being skeptical about this one :p

Normal reaction on forums as no one can proves that:uhhuh: . The math pazrt of my studies was a lot lighter between the second and fifth year, so I can't show off with darn hard math stuff:uhhuh: . The fact you believe me or not I do not care. It was just to point out that I understood the math part of the joke.

10 = j
7 = g
5 = e

jge? maybe they missspeled ige - and they will put the end to ige, or make their own ige-like enterprise

100705 = LooTos ?

I love their sense of humour

Oh wait! In octal that would actualy be:
10 = i
07 = g
05 = e

IGE !!!!

in hex:
10 = p
07 = g
05 = e

nah... that does not make a sens :D

Any1 tried hitting f5 999x , and maybe a new bnet issue, cuz its saying 999 = all , in 1 = one,
2 things : or ng , or new online style for all games

Battle.net just went down at about 7:40 Est, I assume theyre updating now hopefully well hear something within the hour :D
Hopefully its Diablo3

Edit: The front page of bnet is back up with an ASCII Pic of something and the caption "NO WAI!!" underneath. Cant make out wtf the pic is though, any suggestions?

A ghost was my first thought, maybe a Starcraft Ghost announcement?

Here's what a portion of the binary text means when translated:

Proof:

lim(m --> oo) sum(n = 1)^m (9)/(10^n) = 1
0.9999... = 1

Thus x = 0.9999...
10x = 9.9999...
10x - x = 9.9999... - 0.9999...
9x = 9
x = 1.
Blizzard should stop to do some weird maths, and go on with game developping :lol: ! They call *that* a proof ?? The main point of the proof is how they define "...", and that's precisely what they "forgot" to do :lol: ! Btw, the first formula is right (the magic word is "lim"), but below that, the way to prove it is crappy ;) !
