Fbob - You lied to and decieved the members of this board. When you posted everything revolved around you. You deserve nothing less than being banned. People all over out their have items that they cherish which came from you and now their entire gaming experience may be completely ruined.

This is not the real world... this is a online gaming community and in that sense you committed the worst crime possible. You were not a newcomber, you were someone that has been around and gained the respect or trust of a large amount of people here (myself not included) and then you spat on all of those people by not being honest about your playing style. You are a cheat.

I think fbob should be let to stay. I mean what would be a better way to say breaking forum rules is A-OK?

And what are laws/rules but a codified form of morality?

Petty theft is also less morally reprehensible than cheating on your girlfriend, so I guess shoplifting is OK then?

 for reminding me of a specific event that happened to me and that i blame durf for:p

it involved people who i think suffered(no pun intended) from masochism as they would by choice enter open battle net and try to duel with their legit gear users who used the highely illiegit white and black items of 1.09. As i dont suffer from masochism having to watch those duels or even see open battlenet was a horror. Lets just say its better to never venture there

Heck! i had completely forgotten about those. yes now I remember those items. Yikes! That is a can of worms best left alone.

Now I have reminded myself of it all now as well. Im double bad now.

Can you sink the teeth in a bit harder for me Lone_wolf?

Damn that sucks FB, while I hope something can be worked out, if not I enjoyed your posts and you were always kind to newbies.

:)

i dunno. a shop would be a couple of tonnes at least

Rules are rules even if this board looses one of its most interesting members. And someone who was very active in the community.

The Zod turney was great fun to read and a great idear

I for one will miss you...

Good luck.

I don't normally post in these threads (or any threads now really, but that's not the point), but I just have to say this:

FB MP'ed and did giveaways whilst also using edited items. He's been here for nearly 2 years now, and really should've known better. A new member (who could at least pretend they didn't know the rules) would still be banned, so why shouldn't FB? I haven't really trusted him since he showed his perfect eth upp'ed Hone. Somehow I just don't believe he hasn't duped anything else. If he wanted to play legit, why not just delete all of the items from the item pack. From his first post it looks like he was knowingly using the item pack items for a year after joining anyway.

Just because he has 7000 posts (most of which added nothing of value) doesn't mean he should be treated any differently to someone who joined 6 months ago and has 300 posts.

To everyone who says he shouldn't be banned (seems to be a lonely camp ATM), does that mean you wouldn't ban anyone who MP'd/traded/gave away duped items?

*bites* :p

for those that talk about morality. Here is a intresting thing it has nothing to do with this issue. On the other hand it has alot to do with the current forum rules.

and clearly some rules have changed since i last read it all. hum hum intresting indeed here are the rules people:

Ten Commandments of the DiabloII.Net Forums

1. Thou Shalt Not Flame. Even if you strongly hate the content of a post, and detest the individual to whom you're responding so strongly you dream of seeing Carvers playing softball with his internal organs, please exercise restraint and post without flames. (You are allowed, however, to make rude facial expressions and socially unacceptable hand gestures as you press "submit.") Do not bypass the word filter.

Your behaviour is judged not just here, but elsewhere. If you slander or libel this site or the site staff on another website, forum, or by other public means, your membership at DiabloII.Net may be terminated without notice.

2. Thou Shalt Not Spam or Engage in Posting Wars. Post it once, and post it nice, and please don't ever post it twice. (There's a song there somewhere.) Pick a forum, pick a message, and that's that. Don't post in every forum with the same message. If it's a general post, use one of our general forums. If it's specific to a class? well.. you follow the drift.

And we may share it with the world on our front page news.

It gives us a warm feeling in our tummies that you care about your post count and your forum ranking here at DiabloII.Net. But if we see you posting meaningless tripe to edge up the count, or using the forum for a chitchat better suited to ICQ or AIM or one of our chat room room we'll ask you to stop. And reset your post counter to -450. Yeah, we're evil like that.

3. Thou Shalt Not Advertise. We do not intend to serve as a linking service or a search engine to other sites. Links that wouldn't be allowed anywhere on the forums (including signatures, and location) would be to links to sites (commercial OR personal) that have:

1. Pornographic, racist or illegal materials, including game cheats or hacks
2. Profit sites (any get rich quick sites). This is sites that earn the poster a profit/commission or sites that give points for incoming links
3. Sites that are competitive to any of the fan sites here. It has taken many 'man' hours to compile the sites' content and as such our commitment to the promotion of that content is total. Neither do we allow visitors to use our forum membership as a means to build their own sites from, using our Private Messaging system to recruit writers and/or their content or membership drives for their own forums.
4. Sites carrying ad-busting software

4. Thou Shalt Not Post Naughty Links or Graven Images. This is beyond advertising. Do this, you earn a drop kick into the next timezone and an instant account deletion, without a second glance. The game is rated Mature, but we all know there are a ton of kids of varying ages and lots of different types of people who play Diablo II and who visit our site. Even if this wasn't the case, we just don't want porn and other yucky stuff on our boards. No images can be posted. Sorry, you don't get to vote on this one. No way of telling if someone will post up a rude image, or pull from a slow server, causing the pages to load for everyone at the speed of a slug. Better, we think, to just bag the whole idea of images [apart from in the Pal forum]. We graciously give you an Avatar, and that's the limit of your "visual self-expression," as the interior designers, say.

5. Thou Shalt Not Pimp or aid the Pimping of hacks, Cheats or Farming. Hacks and Cheats are 3rd party programs that allow you to alter the way a player interacts with a game. This includes, but not restricted to Maphack and Pindlebot. We do not support the use of these. You may not ask for help in creating a hack/cheat, a link to where you can find one, provide a link to where people can download one. However, the morality of using these programs is sometimes discussed and we allow these [within reason], unless it violates any other rule.
Advertising gold/item farming and any sale of in-game items for real world currency is strictly forbidden. Linking to these services and their affiliates is also prohibited.

In the trading forums we do not allow people using trade hacks or Pindlebot and then peddling their wares on the forums. If using the trading forums you should make sure you are familiar with the Terms and Conditions of the RPGTraders.Net as they apply to the forums also.

6. Thou Shalt Not Engage in Unnatural Bumping. We have a "bump up" feature, where the post with the most recent addition goes to the top of the forum listing. If your post is good, it'll be responded to. If it's responded to, it'll undergo the process we call Natural Bumping. Natural Bumping = good. Unnatural bumping = bad. Unnatural Bumping is where someone posts, "I'm adding this to put this thread back at the top." Do it, we slap your hand. Do it often, you pull back a bloody stump.

7. Thou Shalt Not Spoof. Don't make up an account name designed to resemble another poster. If you're banned for some reason, don't keep coming back with "Fred," "Fred the Undead" and "Fred Yet Again." If you were banned, take it like a man? wellll, take it like a reasonable person, and accept your fate. We ban the person not the account so registering under a new nickname will result in that account being banned too. If you wish, you may appeal the account closure to the staff. Oh, and for goodness sake, don't make up additional accounts to respond to yourself. (People who talk to themselves used to be burned at the stake as witches; we still hold to that belief system, here at DiabloII.Net ;)

8. Thou Shalt Not Get Territorial. If you post or submit something to any of our sites, -- be it an article, a news item, a forum post, a strategy guide, or a suggestion -- it becomes the property of the site. That means if we leave it in the forum, post it to our Strategy Compendium or put it into a Hall of Fame or whatever, it is still your work, but we have rights to it as well. If we allow it to be present on the site(s), or use it in any form, you agree that you have no financial claim against the site. We do not demand that items be exclusively ours, but once something it submitted to us for publication or posted in our forums, its removal is entirely at our discretion.

9. Thou Shalt Accept the Admin's Decisions. We [DiabloII.Net and its mods/admins] reserve the right to ban [temporarily or permanently] or place on Probation [limit privileges] any member of DiabloII.Net without warning. We reserve the right to edit, move or remove any post made on DiabloII.Net without warning or explanation. We reserve the right to edit any portion of a member profile without warning. You will accept all this gladly and with open arms because we do it with love.

10. Thou Shalt Not Mention "Freedom of Speech." Or we'll vomit. All over your Treads of Cthon, we promise you. This is a private forum, and you are our invited guests. The administrators have a tough job, trying to keep the forums clean and presentable while not willingly stifling open discussion. If a thread or post is locked or deleted, that was the necessary step to take in the judgment of the administrator. Please don't bandy irrelevant constitutional law and hope to plea the case for less "censorship." Don't start a vote, don't throw food, don't throw a hissy fit, don't light up torches and mob our central office. We don't censor, we exercise judgment and quality control on something in which we invest a lot of time and effort. We only accept posts written in English.

Legal Small Print: You use DiabloII.Net and its affiliates in the full knowledge that advertising in the form of banner adverts, pop ups, interstitials and embedded adverts appear on all pages. You agree to not interfere with the display of these adverts through banner blocking software or browser features.

Anything we didn't say above, we hereby say herein and henceforth. Verily.

We reserve the right to amend these rules at our discretion without notification. The onus is on the member to periodically check these rules for changes

Thou shalt not engage in unnatural bumping......
i love it.

I don't usually speak up in threads like these, especially when eveything has already been said, but this just seems so overwhelmingly simple. FB cheated. Personally, I don't care. Not at all. What I DO care about are the lies and false pretenses. Many people at this forum want to remain utterly free of hacks and taint, and FB pretty much robbed them of this. Whoever said nothing FB did is unethical is totally wrong; he lied to an entire community for more than 2 years, and robbed many members of something they find very important. If that doesn't deserve a ban, I don't know what does.

Wow. Such turn of events.

Hey, Good Luck in RL FB.

I guess those are the rules.

*edit* Anyone notice that since I logged in and viewed this thread that we've got something like 65 members logged and viewing? Including oldies like Bhaalistik, Genghis Chuck - some that I haven't seen in a long time.

Guess it takes a duping thread to get everyone's attention. Wow.

NNOOOOO!!!

Not Farting Bob! Dude, what were you thinking?

I never would have believed it except it came directly from you.

Porius

Since the entire SPF seems to have woken up, I'd like to write a couple of lines as well.

The only way to stay legit will always be by not engaging in trading and receiving items in giveaways. This affair now surprizes me, particularly because the SPF's readiness to renounce a well established member when he fails to answer questions raised by a slip of the mind posting of an ATMA readout. Legitness has prevailed, but the vigour some people displayed in this thread, this zeal over a game, well, doesn't exactly scare me, it makes me wonder...

I only made it to page 4, and i just couldnt go on reading it any more... boohoo. He broke the rules, he should be punished. If someone gets by, then that just opens the door for other people to have a chance. I like Fb a lot, he is a really nice person. But if you lie, and trade hacked items, with other people. People that are trying to play legitly, then thats bad. You should get banned. <- thats the law side of me ( You gonna taste the backside of my hand BOY!)

But my other side says, eh. He messed around with an item pack. He probably not the first person here to do it, boo hoo. If he starts fresh, eh then he starts fresh. I am not going to get my panties of "1337n3§§" in a twist. He is a good person, if he gets the squid, then life goes on, he will be missed.

Ah... er... well...

Honestly I'm not saying I'm surprised here.

And honestly farting_bob simply leaving, apologizing, and being able to come back into the community would be a slap in the face.

I don't mean to offend(Ok, well, maybe I do) but I'm also one of the people who kind of feels like, "Get out, don't want to see you ever again."

I'm not one to hate many people, so I'm just going to drop out with what I've already said, and hope that justice is properly served to those who are deserving.

Well Farting Bob you have really lived up to your name by planting this wet one in the forum. Now you depart and leave us chocking on your stink. For shame.

It also saddens me to see so many trying to stick up for him and his actions. Very simply everyone's trust has been violated. What he has done undermines the very fabric of what the forum should stand for.
